I work as electrician and metal work, everything are measures and follow by ruler and measuring tape , using inch or centimeter, even a round metal tube or pipe for stair hand rail or metal gate measure in inch or centimeter. But yes, in electrician, wire also have it own measurement like 10 AWG (2.5mm), 11 AWG (2.3mm )12 AWG (2.0mm) , 13 AWG (1.8mm) or (American wire guage). Why the hell 1" inch (25mm) PVC pipe messure like 1.5" inch or 37 mm, and is not 1" inch or 2.5 cm (25 mm) or 8/8", 16/16", 32/32", 64/64" whatever you call. Even a 3/4" inch PVC pipe is not 3/4" inch and appear to be 1" inch at all I just don't get it who created this confusing shit NPS, NB, DN and still called and "inch", why don't call it other name?

You are wrong here. 4 and above is multiply by 25 to get DN as per ASME b.16.5
@HardHatEngineer4 жыл бұрын
B16.5 is standard for flanges not pipe standard. But what you have said is correct that 4 inch and above it is straight multiplication with 25. For smaller sizes it is different. Did I said anything thing otherwise?
@khushbooansari17844 жыл бұрын

hi dear I want to ask you please ,how to calculate pressure to select pipe schedule

You have to calculate thickness using the B31.3 formula, and once you have a thickness, you can select the nearest available commercial size schedule.

But what is the origin on NPS? i.e. why the OD doesn't match?
@HardHatEngineer3 жыл бұрын
It is history of evolution. How world move from old Iron Pipe system to current system.
@KAASUTV3 жыл бұрын
@@HardHatEngineer Thanks for your reply. I will rephrase my question. What is the origin of the old Iron Pipe system. Why the uneven OD? Surely they where using inches back then right? So why they didn't make a system where the OD would be 1", 1.5", 2", 3", 4" etc...

Why is NPS is not equal to OD for smaller pipes?
@geoffmooregm5 жыл бұрын
The entire system is based on industry usage and not ease of use. All of the sizes below 12" are commonly used for fluid and gas systems and they rely heavily on the internal diameter to calculate flow. If you are needing round hollow tube for a structural system then you might want to specify "Tubing" which is measured strictly by OD and Wall thickness.
