lol, i love my xc suspension on my gravel bike. I have different wheels for it because the front axle size. I just put on some thick tires on a smaller wheel that will fit and am itching to try it. And yes mud on water bottles is problematic. I took a free course on shock tuning to give me confidence in the charts (two wheel astrology, or one wheel). Since i use my gravel bike for commuting, when i take the rear rack off, the difference in the partial carbon fork and the air shock is only 2 lb difference, less than the rear rack. And then the trunk bag, and using for shopping, when i have the air fork on - it's light. :-) love the music, love the approach, like that i can't read your typeface - means i can't perceive my aging. Thanks for that. Oh also, tree avoidance waay easier with dropbars - narrow. Playing with stems and spacers can adjust your reach and height (stack height) can be adjusted. I can luckily get it near my regular fork, but...watch your pedals, they can be lower.

@@EverythingsBeenDone I finish my Project!!! My build was a very low budget. The motivation came from my cyclocross bike. I was using it mostly in mountain bike routes in my are Wageningen, the Netherlands. So I though in bigger tires, LOW budget (specially important considering the high price of the new way of specific bikes), and dropbars; I really love them. So I looked for an old MTB or Tourism frame. An old friend saw a GAZELLE PLAYA in the trash . It is perfect for this project. Good geometry an mounting bolts, good tire clearance like a gravel frame. I used Shimano Dura-ace 10 speed shifters together with SLX 9 speed RD. The crank set is a triple Deore but I have removed the small ring (so it is like double). it works with a FD Deore 9 speeds. Cassette is an 11 36 sram. Old mechanical disc brakes Tektro. Wheels 26 MTB . I put and old front suspension Tora. The total cost was 390 euros putting price to all components from bolts, cables, recycle or second hand components etc. the main difficulties were to make components to fit since all is second hand some times I missed adapters like for the brakes. It was also difficult to workaround technical problems while no having specific tools, like to fix the bended mech hanger I am very happy although I wish it will be a bit lighter. Finally the bike was no agile and does handle quite slow but I did replace the handle bar stem for a one quite shorter and now it is great.

@EverythingsBeenDone4 жыл бұрын
How would I make my tapered 1 1/4" fit the 1.5" taper of this fork?
They fit into the headset recess then have the bearings externally. It raises the fork length by a few mm and the steerer needs to be long enough.

I have ridden all those routes on my drop bar 45c (35psi) bikes and never felt the need for suspension....but even my mtb only has 90mm on the front and I am old so there is that. I tried the plus thing and found them to be too roly poly for my taste @ the same psi btw....I doubt I'll ever put a sus fork or what have been known as "Monster Crossers" for years on ever. But talking about slack has anyone seen the Evil gravel bike with the 67d head angle? The reason I like older school geo and narrow bar width is because it sharpens the steering and not all riding is downhill. I am setting up a new bike and by chance my master mechanic buddy who did the facing had a 27.2 cable dropper in his rafters so I ended up putting that on. I don't even have one on my mtb actually, mainly because my Ti post has been stuck in there for 5yrs.....I have yet to use it for anything other than letting a few people test ride the rolling chassis and quite frankly haven't really put it to the test yet. However we did manage to get the left brifter to do the down/up deed and that is kind of cool I suppose. Testing will tell as I do get into the gnarl with my bikes at times. Mainly logging roads however down here at the coast where I am riding (sic) out the virus. Some steep loose mileage in them thar woods. Watched "Gone" on Aprime the other night which is sort of set in Forest Park and features the Cathedral Bridge and some PDX features. The Park element gets a bit fuzzy at the end but if you are looking for some PDX film fun I recommend it.
