No joke I ended up subbing because I invariably find myself coming back to this channel when looking for more in-depth information about Corsair's products. You're doing their work for them. Like still to this day I have no idea what the "ID Header" does on the Core XT, and searching on Corsair's own website yields NO information on it. Crazy.

I'm a bit confused still. Are you daisy chaining the Commander Core into the Commander Core XT in order to have full control over all the fans, pump, and LCD?
@HardwareArtisan10 ай бұрын
Hi Strifethor, Yes, you can certainly daisy chain the CORE into the CORE XT's USB pigtail, but is not required to do that. The only reason to do that is that it's an available USB header. iCUE doesn't depend on these being daisy chained like this. As long as the two controllers make a USB connection to the system, it will work fine and you will be able to control all your fans, pumps and LCD. You could use two motherboard USB headers, or a powered USB hub and get the same results. The CORE XT's USB pigtail is just convenient. I hope that makes sense, great question. Thanks for watching!!!

As some one who just did a build with 10 Corsair QL which included two XTs and the Commander Core and way too many fan cables (10x2=20), I'm far happier with 10 Lian Li AL120s. I still have the Commander Core from the H150i but I now only have ONE fan controller and eight fan cables, three cables going to the mobo AND I was able to put my HDD cage back in because I had an 8TB HDD to install. I had to remove it to fit the controllers. It took so many hours of cable management and figuring out how to best connect the controllers. I also saved $220 after returning all the corsair stuff; $520 for the corsair, $300 for the Lian Li. And the Lian Lis look so much nicer. Sure I don't have as much glow from the side light rings on the QLs but when looking at the finished job, I could not ignore all the dead spots of the Corsair fans (LLs do it too but not as much). The Lian Lis have a steady glow and I'm not distracted by the LEDs under the fan. They also get pretty bright. Lian Lis also work with Signal RGB. And the specs of the AL120s are so much better. And "visor", what Lian Li calls "scan" works across all sets. No I'm not a Lian Li salesman, maybe a fan boy now, but do check them out for you next build. There is more that they can do. They really solve all the gripes I have with the Corsairs.
@HardwareArtisan2 жыл бұрын
Hi GiSWiG, Thanks for the excellent insight on your experiences with Lian Li AL120's and the Corsair Fans. All are very valid points. I have a set of al120 fans here, but i've never done a build with them, perhaps i'll do a comparison video. I have used some Lian Li components in the past, mainly the Strimer series power cables.....Simply Amazing!!! I've no doubt the AL120 fans will hold up to the same standard as those cables. I've always liked Corsair, but I have no affiliation with them and will totally check out some AL120 Fans and their ecosystem. Thanks for taking the time to bring us some new insights!! And thanks for watching!

@@HardwareArtisan I should mention some cons but really only after having used the Corsair fans. You don't have the ability to layer effects like in iCUE. You can't create a solid color base layer and then add a spiral layer on top of that and in the case of QL and LL fans, you don't have the control of the outer ring. But I really don't have time to deal with all that. Regardless of Corsair or Lian Li, SignalRGB can do some great lighting effects easily. With the ALs, I can pass control of the lighting to the motherboard with the flip of a switch, literally. I haven't played around with it yet but I think I can use the ASUS Aurora Creator and control the fans that way. I don't think the software will tie in my EVGA GPU like SignalRGB. I also now have 2 8TB HDDs installed, something that I just didn't have the room for with all the Corsair control boxes. And something else that just I just experienced, I removed the tray with three ALs on it by disconnecting ONE cable, slid the tray with three fans attached completely out of the case with no cables attached. Now will Corsair do the same thing with future fans? Probably, unless the concept is patented by Lian Li, which I don't think they can? IDK. If you ever do a review, be sure to bring those points up.

@@GiSWiG I’m having trouble to decide bt lían li uní or Corsair ll, where did you buy the corsairs from and can you return them just because you didn’t like it?
@GiSWiG2 жыл бұрын
@@Blash1 I got the Corsairs at Best buy because they were on sale but returning to BB is much easier, even on-line orders. I don't know if they have the Lian Li's but you can get those on Amazon. Now of course, you can get the Lian Li Infinity fans so now you have side illumination. Really, if you pay attention to YT reviews of the fans that have high quality cameras (no offense Hardware Artisan) you can see how well the light diffuses in both fans. I think you'll like the Lian Li's. They can be controlled by their included fan hub or can be passed through from the motherboard. The Corsairs are not bad, just didn't work well for me, especially with the now 13 AL 120 fans in my case (excessive?). Its a total of 10 cables for those. 13 Corsair fans would be 26 cables.

Corsair is lacking in comprehensive documentation for their Icue products. So your videos fill the gap. Thanks for these. I'm just finishing up my 7000x build with 10 fans. The supplied 4 140mm three 140mm that came with my 420mm radiator and 3 120mm on the side mount. One issue is the Icue software doesn't show the commander pro that comes with the radiator. You control those fans via the cpu block. Not intuitive at all. Another issue I'm dealing with is with the side mounted ML120 Elite fans connected to the core xt in 4,5, and 6. They spin at full rpm with no RGB as if they were 3 pins. Still dealing with troubleshooting that but had to leave town for work. May just need to do a factory reset but we'll see. Long comment just to say thanks again for your videos.

Hi MichaelDM, the commander CORE will not show as a commander CORE if the PUMP is installed on the 24pin port, as soon as you plug in the pump, the badge in icue changes to show whatever AIO you have, it's never explained clearly this is what it does. However, using that AIO device in icue, it acts exactly the same way as the Commander CORE would act, that's what it is. You're right though, not intuitive at all....As for the ML120 fans, I have had to remove power (shut down, physically disconnect the controller) in a few rare cases when it behaves like that. Try that, if not, force a firmeware update on the controller, and beyond that, uninstall and reinstall icue. Good Luck, thanks for your feedback and for watching!!!!

Another great video! Using the Visor effect I'm getting about a 10 second delay in the LED sequence between my Commander XT and Commander Core. I have 10 QL fans, four running off the Commander Core from the AIO and the other six off the Commander XT. Going from the XT to the Core or vice versa there is a pause of about 10 seconds in the LED sequence from one fan to the next going either direction. Don't know if it matters but I also have 128GB (4x32GB DIMMs) of Corsair Dominator Platinum RAM. At first I though the sequence was jumping to that but it doesn't appear to be.
@HardwareArtisan Жыл бұрын
Hi BP, thanks for the feedback, i'm happy you are finding the videos helpful. I've had this happen to me exactly as you've described, where it appears there is a delay in the sequence. In I think every case, it's always been that it's firing to another chain of RGB that I didn't have installed.....too much messin around, haha! I would start with checking your CORE and CORE XT for any other RGB chains. Check if you have 3 pin lighting effects enabled/configured...and disable that (assuming you don't have any 3 pin lighting effects)....that will cause this as it will send signals for those devices. If that's not it, i'd just double check the CORE And CORE XT have properly detected the right amount of fans and the right type. Update iCUE to the latest, restart your PC and if nothing else is working. Personally, i'd clear the config on the controller and reset it up. I think i'd remove the RGB connections, just pull them out of the connection, then rerun the wizard with nothing in there. Then re-add them and rerun the wizard and double check. Here is the firing order for Visor to the best of my knowledge..... KB -> Mouse -> RGB mouse pad -> Lighting Node Pro -> Lighting Node Core -> Commander Pro -> Commander Core -> RAM -> External Ambient Lighting (LS100, LT100, ST100). I think the CORE XT is right after the CORE, or before, I cannot recall, I need to go revisit that, might be a good short-ish video to do. The RAM should be last in that sequence if you have the lighting configured.... If that doesn't do it, reinstall icue perhaps. I'll try and go retest the order of that effect, let me know what you find! Good luck, keep having fun!!!

Hi ph11p3540, it can take a bit of effort to get the screws started on some fans, but usually not so much that it strips them out. I would check that you are using the screws that came with the fans. Do you connect the commander core to the commander xt the same way? pigtail into the other? I have mine set up to have them both connected to the MB into 2 RGB headers on the MB. But it "ICUE" only sees the the XT and not the core. Also, I connected x2 - 350mm exterior light strips LS100's into the RGB 3 pin on the XT and it sees it in the setup. Shows them working, but I have no lights on at all. Making me nuts. Do I have to buy the light node kit for the strips to make them work? Or should they be working connected to the XT 3pin header? Thanks for the vid.
@HardwareArtisan9 ай бұрын
Hi johngallo7383, that's a great question. You can use the pigtail on the CORE XT to plug in the CORE, it should work, I've connected it that way with no issues. When using the Commander CORE, if you have the AIO pump connected, it will not show up in iCUE as the commander CORE, it will show up as the AIO, but it is in fact the commander core, you would use the AIO device to control the fans on the CORE. You should be able to get LS100 strips to work by plugging them into the 3 pin RGB header on the XT. In iCUE you configure the 3 pin lighting and select that device. Then select a lighting sequence and make sure in the quick lighting zone you have those devices selected. If you not getting anything there, I would double check all your connections. Try powering off, physically unplugging the controller and then try another sata power connection if possible and try again, if it's still an issue, uninstall/reinstall iCUE and make sure the firmware is up to date. I can usually solve most problems with that sequence. Let me know what you find, good luck and have fun!! (Troubleshooting is fun, right!?) Thanks for watching!!!

I was messing up the chain. They need to be in sequence. One plugged into the other till the end. Start from the node and daisy chain them. All is working now. All is seen in the ICUE software. I'm setting up my first custom water loop and so I have the xd5 rgb pump/ res combo that has a four pin fan connector that I'm assuming is for pump control. I have 6 fans (3 LL120's, 3 QL 140's) and am using the commander xt. Based on being able to split the fan headers as noted in this video, I am hoping that I can split one fan header and then have a free spot for that pump 4 pin signal connector (that only has 2 wires). However, the only info I see about connecting this particular signal cable is to connect it to the specific port 6 on the regular commander. Can anyone tell me if this needs to be connected in the same way on the xt? Great set of videos!
@HardwareArtisan Жыл бұрын
Hi R1Armadill0, that's a great question. Yes, you should be ok splitting one of the 4 pin PWM connections on the CORE XT, use a splitter and connect two fans two a single port. This will free up one of the ports for you xd5 rgb pump. As the documentation states, use port 6 to connect the 4 pin PWM connector, that will be fine on the CORE XT as well. You should also have a 4 pin RGB connector which is keyed so it will be obvious which port that goes to on the core XT, any port should be fine. The only 2 pin connector should be the temperature probe, which the CORE XT has 2 of them, either one should be fine on the CORE XT. Have good luck, let me know how it's going or if you have trouble. In icue software I try use infinity mode to go lights through in order, but for some reason icue using my 3x 140mm and don't go for 120mm. Do you know why? I used autodetection for fans and actually commander see them 120mm as something else. Should I change that manually to ML? Any idea? Greetings, Tom.
@HardwareArtisan2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, great question. As best I can tell, inifinity only works with the QL fans. I checked on my current setup and infinity isn't available for my LL Fans. So, your 2 ML fans wouldn't use that lighting scheme. It's not under lighting link and would only be specific to the QL fans. It's Unfortunate, i'm not sure the exact reason Corsair couldn't have made that work. ICUE should properly detect those two types of fans, if it doesn't I'd clear the config, restart and retry the autodetection. I hope that helps, Thanks for Watching!!!

Hi Demineon, it sounds like you have a Commander CORE and not the CORE XT. They are very similar, but one of the key differences is the "CORE" does not have the USB pigtail. If you have a CORE with no pigtail, i'd contact Corsair. To my knowledge they are still shipping with the pigtail. The fans don't follow the same order as I want them to. Is the problem with the USB expansion that must connect the two controllers?
@HardwareArtisan4 ай бұрын
Hi cauamanfredo4989, it won't make any difference if you use the USB expansion cable or not. iCUE orders the controllers in a specific order. I did a video on the "VISOR" lighting effect where I went into greater detail on what this order is. Off the top of my head I can't recall if the CORE or the CORE XT is first in the list. You do have to order your fans to which controller fires off first. The port itself on the controller doesn't matter as much as you can reorganize them in icue for that controller. I don't have acces to my notes right now to recall which fires first, but watch the video, then just match the arrangement of your physical fans to the controller that fires first (based on what fans you want to fire first), then order them within icue. For most lighting effects this doesn't matter much, but for visor, infinity it does matter. I hope that help, thanks for watching!!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/h2HIk2Cbq5uig8k

Looking for advice. I have got the core xt currently with all 6 connected up but I need one more RGB port for a fan. What’s cheapest way to add on a rgb port?
@HardwareArtisan11 ай бұрын
Hi @georget2k11, great question. There are a couple of ways to do this, including simply adding a second controller.....But, if you only need to add one more fan, the cheapest way would be to simply use a splitter cable, check this one out here: www.amazon.com/dp/B0B4NK48RH?psc=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_ct_CCQE37S6J8BDGPNNSF8C I haven't used this cable, but splits on 4 pin port into 2, the only downside being is icue won't see this as 2 fans, just one and both fans will get the same signal, which isn't a big deal except if you need an animation to work like VISOR. This cable would be a great option for cheap. If you need icue to see it as 2 fans, consider using the Corsair RGB fan hub, but you may need to build or locate the 3 pin to 3 pin rgb cable, I don't think it comes with the hub itself. That would plug into the RGB port on the corext and the rgb hub and then gives you 6 more ports (you configure the 3 pin lighting in icue). Or, you could simply add another CORE XT, but that's all more expense, for one fan, if you don't care about the animations, just use the splitter cable, that should work well for you! I hope that helps get you some ideas! Thanks for watching!!!

Hi Aaron Hadrava, Yes, you can daisy chain a CORE onto the CORE XT. Plug in the CORE XT's USB connection to the motherboard, and then plug in the CORE to the pigtail usb connection from the CORE XT and that should work great. If Ihave a corsair connector on my msi motherboard, what is that for? When you are talking the first and second pigtails, how do you know which is which? Can I daisy chain 2 commander core pro xt's and 1 commander core pro
@HardwareArtisan2 жыл бұрын
Hi Timothy Carey, great questions. The "jcorsair" connector on your MSI motherboard would allow you to connect a corsair LED strip directly to the motherboard, or, an RGB fan hub, you would use a cable to connect the hub to the port on the motherboard. Per the documentation, this allows you to use MSI's software to control the strips or FAN's on the HUB. I see no mention that iCUE would be able to see the devices on the MSI motherboard, I think only ASUS boards are supported in iCUE at this time, although it's been some time since i've looked. As far as the pigtails go, the first CORE XT you connect using the main cable (not the short pigtail) to the motherboard header allows the short pigtail to get a signal. But if you daisy chain a second CORE XT to this, which does work fine, the second CORE XT's small pigtail will have no signal from the first as only a single set of pins are connected on the small pigtail. It's enough to detect and use the second core XT but leaves no signal to the pigtail on the second XT, it's confusing, I hope that explains it. You could daisy chain all 3 of those controllers, the PRO should be first, followed by the two CORE XT's knowing that the second CORE XT (the one connected to the small pigtail of the first) will have no signal. You could encounter issues with that setup in some cases, i'm working on a troubleshooting video, one solution if you have issues with that is to use a usb 3.0 header adapter to usb 2.0 and use your usb 3.0 header as it has better power characteristics, I'll describe this more in an upcoming video. Good luck, have FUN and thanks for watching!!

i want to install 10 corsair fans. so connecting 10 fans u would want 2 commander core xt and not use the node pros ? or just use node pros without fan speeds ? without controlling fan speed what rps do they come stock ?
@HardwareArtisan11 ай бұрын
Hi NarutoFatality, great question. There are a couple of ways to get 10 fans. Yes, you could do 2 CORE XT's which would give you all the PWM and RGB ports you need, along with multiple temp probes and 2 RGB ports (if you need them). Another way to consider is use a single CORE XT and then connect a RGB FAN HUB to the 3 pin RGB port. This gives you RGB control over 12 FANS. You then need to find a PWM connection for the 4 fans on the RGB HUB. You can split some of the PWM PORTS on the CORE XT, no more than 2 per port, so you would have to split 4 of them. Alternatively, you could add a powered PWM HUB and connect it's input port to the CORE XT, this would give you control over all the fans on the HUB as a single entity and the remaining 5 fans on the CORE individually. I wouldn't split the RGB ports. To me, the easiest way is just to do 2 CORE XT's. Of course, if you're going to have an AIO in the PC, consider one of the corsair AIO's that come with A commander core, add that to the CORE XT and you have all the ports you need. Good Luck, thanks for watching and Have FUN!

Hi Anthony C, great question. Yes, you are correct, the final 3 fans on the lighting node CORE, or lighting node pro need a place to connect the PWM speed control connectors. Motherboard fan headers will work, but that can mess up some aesthetics and be an issue for speed control. In that case, you can consider a couple of splitters in the Commander CORE, I would only use these sparingly. Or, consider an inexpensive PWM hub, or if you want to get fancy, take out the lighting node core and replace it with a core XT, so use the CORE for the AIO and the CORE XT to spread your fans across, this would give you PWM and RGB control over all of them. I hope that helps, thanks for watching!!!!

I could remove the Lighting Node PRO and plug the Lighting Node CORE into one of the two LED Ports on the Commander PRO and was wondering would this work to control all Fan Speeds and their RGB? In theory it should work, I would of gone with the XT but I wasn't a fan (pardon the pun) of that USB part with the passthrough and didn't want loads of USB cables trailing across my case, and by using the Commander PRO, it would be 1 less USB cable trailing across my case and also have a spare USB if I wanted to add more later on.

Hi MadEvilDad, great question. There are a couple ways to approach your situation. All of the fans kits will come with either a Lightning node CORE or a lighting node PRO. Both of these devices will only allow you to control the RGB lighting on the FANs. The PWM power/speed control must still be connected somewhere (motherboard or PWM hub) (which is one drawback to these controllers). However, either of those controllers will work fine for RGB controller and pair nicely with your current commander CORE XT. None of the fan kits come with a commander CORE XT that i'm aware of. In that case, I would suggest buying a second CORE XT by itself and use that with your additional 4 fans. If you choose to use the lighting node core for RGB control on the additional 4 fans, you could use a PWM hub to connect the power/speed control. But If i'm going to go to that trouble, i'm just going to add a second CORE XT. I hope that helps, let me know if that didn't answer your question. Thanks for Watching!!!!

If you select the AIO PUMP in icue, you should see all the settings for the CORE XT's lighting effects, cooling and screen options for the LCD under there. It doesn't show as a Commander CORE anywhere. It's just how icue presents the whole package to you. I don't think the splitter has any effect on this or how it works. I hope that help you out! I have my AIO fans running to my Core XT and just the pump running to the Core that came with it, does it matter if the AIO pump and AIO fans aren’t connected to the same Core? And which one should I run the temp sensors to?

So in order to daisy link the commander core xt to the commander core (that comes with the cappellix coolers), I do NOT need a separate commander core pro unit?

You need 1 commander core XT AND 1 commander pro ( the 1 that came with the AIO) . You plug the commander pro into the commander core XT and they each need their own SATA power. watch at 8:28

I have the situation of having 7 fans, H150i Elite Capellix AIO with the commander core, the commander core XT, compatible iCue mouse and keyboard, compatible motherboard and Graphics card. Unfortunately I encounter a problem with trying visor setting. I like that setting and I want to use it but it seems out of sync. 3 fans are synced but then it goes to my keyboard and mouse and then to graphics card and AIO and finally to the last fan. Doesn’t look good at all. 🤦🏻♂️

Curious.. Can I use commander pro and commander core combination for 10 fans setup?

How many commander core xt should I get to connect 13 Corsair fans
@HardwareArtisan2 жыл бұрын
Hi ShoMeMyOpponent, the CORE XT will control 12 fans (both rgb and pwm).....the PWM connections are easy to split, just buy a splitter cable. It's the RGB control on the 13th fan that might be an issue. The 4 port RGB connection isn't easy to split up, I think that's a DIY project and I haven't tried it, although it's on my list as I think it would be useful in these situations. However, what I would do if you have 13 of the 4 pin RGB fans is consider adding a 6 port RGB fan hub from corsair, this hub connects into the RGB port or either XT and gives you that expansion, you could also consider a lighting node core in addition to the 2 XT's, either hub or the lighting node core would work fine, the advantage of the HUB is that it's just a small 3 pin cable directly to the XT, the lighting node core is another sata power connection and another USB connections, it's another controller. Check out the hub here: www.newegg.com/p/1YF-001H-000G9?Description=corsair%20fan%20hub&cm_re=corsair_fan%20hub-_-1YF-001H-000G9-_-Product Good luck, have fun and thanks for watching!

@@HardwareArtisan thank you for all the good info. The hub that u had link to is the same lighting nodes that come with Corsair fan 3 pack right?

You did a little here but would love for you to compare all the different corsair rgb fans you have. # of LEDs , brightness, loops, and other featcures.

That's a great idea Dar Bunny. I'm working on a similar video right now, but it's not of all the CORSAIR fans, but that would be a great video, i'll add it to my list of projects.....Thanks for the great idea and taking the time to post it. Thanks for watching!
