Hardwiring A Nextbase 312GW in car camera using the Nextbase Kit

A quick guide in how to hardwire a next base in car camera to your car using the next base hardwire kit

@@tardeliesmagic I don't know what it is but he said attach it no less than 20cm from the end of the cable so I'm doing what he said as the most difficult part of where does the fuse bit go in was explained better than I have seen before and even better explained then when I asked Honda.

Quite informative, especially in regards to the fuse tap. I didn’t know that’s how they do it these days. But I think the cable should have been run up the window pillar and across the windscreen to come out behind the mirror.

Great video. Had a GW 312 for 2 years now excellent BUT. The battery. Only last about. 2. Years. Got a new one. £ 10. Had to solder it in. Easy job. Top class service from. Next base. Recommended.

You put the original 15amp fuse in the wrong part of the piggyback. This means your rear wiper circuit is now only protected by the 2amp fuse meant for the dashcam supply! It won't cause any damage but the 2amp fuse may blow if the rear wiper gets any resistance.

My car Mazda 6 has low-profile mini fuses and the nextbase hardwire kit fuse holder don't accept these fuse. I've tucked away the wire and connected the earth wire as well. But just stuck on this fuse issue.

The Nextbase instructions state that the small (mini) ATM fuse tap will fit into the micro (low profile mini) fuse holder, but you will need to buy a larger mini fuse to fit into the mini fuse tap for the original circuit (keep the original micro fuse from the car as a spare). Mine works on my Mazda, but the mini ATM fuse tap is not a very secure fit into the micro holder (regardless of what Nextbase claim).

Cheers for the video👍 coz I've just bought one and installed it, but it doesn't work😞. Might have to choose a better earth. BTW, your camera is in a bad place. I don't think it's legal, but it's definitely not advisable. It's better under/behind the rear view mirror.👌better field of vision.☺️

I very much agree with you that the camera is not mounted in the optimum place. The only reason it is mounted there was to save me stripping out the interior of the car to feed the wires to a higher central position. I do not know if there are any legal problems as to where it is mounted but it does not affect my visibility whilst driving. Thanks for your comment and I hope you get your own camera sorted.

Doctor Lefthandthread I didn't need to strip the interior, I just poked the wires behind the trim. It was was quite easy.

Brilliant video! Thank you :). I am thnking of getting one of these dashcams and want to purchase the hardwire kit too. I will be honest in saying I was considering whether doing this myself would be possible but I know now it definitely is. What is the black hinge thing at the 4:11 mark and what does it do? I couldn't quite hear what you said, and that was with the volume turned to the highest lol.

I am so glad this video helped give you the confidence to give this a go. I have learned the last few years the only thing holding me back from doing these things was fear since then I try and fix almost everything Myself. The black hinge thing is called a ferrite core it goes on the wire to stop radio interference affecting your camera.

Tardeli costantini It is called a ferrite core putting it on the wire makes sure no interference affects your cameras recording

Very poor camera work when it came (for me) to the most important part - the red power wire connecting to the fuse. Left me a bit confused. Maybe it's just me though.

BoJo JoJo it’s not just you. This video is useless. I watched the official Nextbase guide (half the video length, no unnecessary talking nonsense and “whatever you wanna call it”, straight to the point. Word of advice to OP: if you want to make a guide, do some preparations and film with a plan.

Thanks I think most of the fun with these little cameras is messing about with them uploading footage to youtube etc it also has practical uses if you had an accident or drove past a speed camera and want to check if you were under the limit without having to wait for a nasty letter my advice is just enjoy your dashcam

I've ordered a dash cam and 2 hardwiring kits, one for the van I have on order and the other hardwiring kit for my old Nextbase 101 dash cam that I plan to put back into my car. Where did you manage to hide the black box that's attached to the wires?

Jonathan Simpson there was a large gap between the dashboard and the steering column that curved towards the front of the car (it acted as a sort of shelf for the wires). I just pushed them in there and they never moved since

OMG you are meant to run the wire up the side window pillar and under the inner roof decor. The wire should then come out around the mirror and connect to the dashcam. Thank god you didnt use duct tape.
