Yew grows in abundance in the Pacific Northwest, BC, and on Vancouver Island. It's called Pacific Yew, and is harder than walnut or cherry. Because of wild grain, it is somewhat difficult to work with.

Hardwoods can also be evergreens such as eucalypt s.

Balsa is not the softest wood. It is the lightest/ softest commertial wood. Yew trees grow in places other than England. Ireland has an abundance of Yew trees.Yew can be extreamly dark. You have made genralisations which are not true.
