I have Evening Rose and love the dark foliage contrasted with the flowers. I also have an old hardy hibiscus of the upright columnar type which has been blooming for about 20 years. It has red flowers and is over 6’ tall this year. I’m in north central Illinois. Loved the video, thanks.

Dang it Heidi! Now I have to order a whole truck load of new hibiscus! I only have 20 or so, lol. For any customers, perfect storm is an amazing performer and super pretty. Evening Rose actually kind of glows in the dark at twilight. Both are a must have. So many more great choices!

I have 5. I have 1 lavender PW that came out last year & got it on sale at the end of the season, 2 that aren’t PW brands & I bought 2 of the evening rose -I think it’s called that- this year and they are all stunning. The PW lavender one is HUGE. I’m 5’7 and it’s at least as tall as me. I’m probably going to have to move it. Heidi, that might be a good video subject. How and when to dig up and transplant your hardy hibiscus 🌺 I’m sure I’m not the only one who has planted it in the wrong spot d/t is size & not realizing what I was doing. lol 😆 Thank you for your videos & sharing all the wonderful choices Garden Crossings has to offer! 😊♥️😂

They could be trimmed back once they stop flowering and the foliage starts to turn yellow in the fall.

Thank you very much Heidi. Your Side By Side Comparison videos are my favorite. They are very helpful. I bought all the Summerifics and several kinds of rose of Sharon. In my zone 9A hardy hibiscus blooms in June, completely gone by August. Do Summerific hibiscus and Rose of Sharon ( Blue/pink Shiffon, Azzuri Blue Satin, Paraplu, Pillars ) bloom at the same time? Which of them bloom later in the season? Thank you.

The Rose of Sharon start (here) before the rose mallow. The Rose of Sharon typically blooms longer as it keeps putting on more buds.

Thank you for all of your help and display of Hibiscus Plants. I have two plants in my garden that was given to me years ago. I really don't know their names. But one bush is pink, the other is red. I also have a huge Rose of Sharon Hibiscus which is now a huge tree. Bees and hummingbirds like it.

Rose of sharon/Hibiscus is a woody shrub. The new growth comes off the existing plant. Rose Mallow/Hibiscus is a perennial that dies back to the grown each year. New growth comes from the ground.

These really can not be pruned all this will do is delay the blooms. It will still grow to the size listed before they bloom

I love all kind of hibiscus. So far I want to check out the holy grid hibiscus. I do like the tropical hibiscus. On the holy grail do we deadhead??

You do not need to deadhead, they usually fall off the plant. You can pick them off though if you want.

I have been wanting to add hardy hibiscus to my garden for a few years now. A local bank has two large red blooming ones and everyone asks what they are. Seeing you walk through the line of plants really helps me see the differences in height, bloom quantity and placement, and other factors. Great presentation! I have a full sun area in z7a that is difficult for me to mow as it is a slight bank, and now I'm thinking about making a hibiscus hedge there. Is it recommended to plant new purchases in fall or spring ? I am in z7a in the Appalachian mountains of Virginia.

HIbiscus can be hard to find in the spring. I recommend planting now that way you can enjoy them next summer as they emerge naturally in your landscape.

That is in an off limits area that I can't go in. But i believe those are a type of Crape myrtle.

I do have Hardy habiscus. One is about 10 years old and the color is pink. The second one, is now in it's second year and called vintage wine. It's got red blossoms. I'm looking for a bit taller heights.

Mine must be very young, because they only had 2 or 3 branches, but they still had a lot of blooms. I bought and planted them the first week of August. Now the trunk and the few branches are all brown with dead leaves. I mulched about 3 inches thick in a circle around the base and close to the trunk without covering it. Then I put short wire garden fence in a square around mulched area and filled it in with leaves. But should I saw them down, or will it be alright?
