Ben does an excellent job! I'm from Southern IL and I got bit by the MI bug. When I go up there I try to visit Garden Crossings. I succeeded this Sept and got a few perrenials. Their health and vigor blew my mind! I don't know how you all do what you do, but it's incredible! I am also always so impressed by the displays (indoor and outdoor!) Theyre more beautiful than other gardens nearby ;) ;)

Very interesting to listen to how you “graded” the different beds. Lots of useful information. Ben is a great asset to your team. He certainly has a lot of knowledge about the different plants and their growing habits. Jack Barnwell is another of my favorites. So if Ben worked with him he gained a lot of knowledge. Thank you for letting us see inside your brains.

Wow Heidi! Thanks for this in-depth evaluation of the gardens and a peek at what you will be doing in 2025. And what great experience Ben brings to the table with his work with Jack Barnwell. No wonder your gardens look totally amazing every year with this specific evaluation and planning. Congrats! And Happy New Year!

Thanks for the interesting and informative video. I think it is so helpful, especially for beginning gardeners to see that even for the pros gardening requires a certain amount of trail and error and over the years, you learn the microclimates on your property and what should do well. You never know until you try and it’s very satisfying when things succeed. And if they don’t try them somewhere else next year or try a different plant. With perennials and shrubs, you can move them.

Please show how and when to prune Alliums to make them bigger.
@gardencrossings
@gardencrossings 3 күн бұрын
With the Alliums we trim them back after they are done flowering. It really doesnt make them bigger per se. In the pots they continue to put on more and more shoots. They do this in the landscape as well.

Marissa is ADORABLE! Definitely need to have her as a regular feature. Please could you show how to prune new quart-sized plants that we receive from Garden Crossings as they grow. I always feel like I should be continuing to prune and don’t know how.
@gardencrossings
@gardencrossings 3 күн бұрын
This answer is going to be a bit variety dependent, but if you trim them they will put on additional branching which results i more flowers. Lets say your salvia blooms, We would trim the plant back by approx. 1/3. this will encourage more growth and more blooms later in the season.
