i really like splitting in the vertical position for safety and comfort: 1) as you said, some logs almost explode sideways from the splitting head and if you are horizontal and on the side you will get hit: in the vertical position and sitting in the front, I am out of the sideways path; 2) i don't like lifting logs! I roll them into place, and that saves my back; even small ones I just stand up close by; 3) i sit on a log so I am comfortable as well. I really don't see why anyone would want to lift logs all day! ok...maybe if they need a workout ;0)

I have the same splitter and had some issues with starting. Neighbor tore apart the carb and cleaned it and it fires right up. I bought it from a guy who used it once and stored it with untreated gas for a year. Works like a dream. Have not found a piece of wood it can't split. Thanks for the video!!

Thanks for watching and commenting! It’s a great splitter for sure... bad gas is a killer though. I just had to clean out my carb after leaving gas in it all summer. Need to follow my own advice. Haha.

Awesome. I really like it and it’s enough for my needs. Can stress enough to use fuel stabilizer when storing for any amount of time or you will be watching my carb clean out videos. Haha. Happy New Year!

Almost bought the 30 Ton tonight but decided to wait to see reviews! Most small engines today it’s best to run stabilizer in!

I got some gouging on my new 25 ton countyline going on, on top of h-beam under the lip, a few inches from end of stroke. We ran a load of wet oak thru it and the wedge wasn't always going perfectly straight, so bottom of wedge was digging into the h-beam. A little grease helped.

All of these box store splitters that look so identical are made from the same company, YTL. I bought a country Pro model from Runnings for $999 and county line was $1500 from TSC. Oregon was $1500 from a local power equipment company. Home Depot was a Champion label. Look at the model numbers, they all start with “YTL”. Find the lowest priced unit. I learned this when a salesman was bad mouthing another line and bragging there’s up. I went online to verify what he was talking about and found a reference to a recall on all of those brands having a recall on the 30-ton class of splitters. Every one of those brands went back to YTL international as the manufacturer.

Mine has done well for me however don’t leave gas in it without treating the gas. Like all small engines it will gum up the carb quickly. We have a video for fixing that too, lol but I seem to never learn.

I have the same splitter ( looks like ) from Tractor Supply although it's red. The four-way wedge is available but because it has to pass thru the push off bumpers it's only about 4 inches wide. Kinda limited. I would take it off and put it on all day long depending on the log i was splitting. I use a stack of pallets as a cheap log table.
@HardyBrothersOutdoors
@HardyBrothersOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
I didn't realize they had a red version. Yeh the 4 way splitter is pretty small and actually doesn't fit my model. I have one at home with plans to modify my wedge to try to make it work, but your point on the narrowness is a good one. Thanks for watching and commenting!

@@HardyBrothersOutdoors the newer models are so comfortable and have squeezed out every ounce of everything from frame size. I have the last model of the 1050 TLB she's basically the size of your brothers 4 series. Love her more than my wife at times as she's far less problematic lol for 80% of all repair/maintenance 1 3/4" socket set, set of wrench's and the farmers xtra large adjustable an channel locks I can easily carry out. Minimal electrical, 41 real HP (37 rated but JD ducked recertification come to find out lol) She's bulletproof old sliding gear tranny, 2stage live PTO. Raw power is always more than I usually need pulling, fel lifting (model 75 is alot stronger on 1050 at 1500lbs easily but only 1000 on the 950) and the model 8 QA backhoe. She's truely a workhorse. But she's lacking massively on reliable info real capacitys as only the 8-950 are readily available and the old timers who genuinely know these machines are either passed away or view internet as evil. Parts are plentiful but some guys hike prices if you need say a turbo & a head really fast. Idk her real weight as she sits but it's atleast 6000+ pounds. So on those Firestone AGs it's a better rototiller than anything lol especially if I have the carryall loaded up with firewood. Theres no hiding the severely damaged lawn even when dry. Point is while she is perfect fit for my needs and jobs I do with her (even lugged a 140' tall white pine up a small grade soft Forrest floor/mud &field stone to my landing out back there to my surprise honestly) she's actually quite maneuver able for the size yet still clumsy at times ya know. Great when breaking thru deep heavy snow down the long run of my driveway in winter no chains needed, but thats also the Achilles heel at time's. Also my wife CAN run it but she's not smooth at all lol and my son is 1 so I'm scared to death having him around it sometimes as there's legitimately next to no safety built in I know life's a balance of everything and All, but my great grandfather had a small Cub tractor to work with the large Diesels on their farm so I've always had a soft spot for the smallest of tractors. And they really do at times force you to become a better operator when things really need to get done. Say simply using your loader to move a pallet of concrete, within reality of course, you can barely lift it with a small one, then curling your bucket you gain more lift allowing you to wheel that load where she's needed. And a top shelf maker like Deere, their tractors are so smooth, combined with their legendary Iron tough reliability (I know rear housings are aluminum up to 4 series but that's by design) They're SAFER than ever, and their power to weight is technically better than ever. It's up to us to buy the proper machine for our land/use/needs not the tractors fault if some city boy buys say a 3 series then trashes it because it won't run his 5' round baler very well at all LoL

I just bought it, no coupon, $990.99 and the log catcher, $59.99. The catcher screwed right into the pre drilled holes and some nuts were welded on there already even though the bolts came with nuts too.

yep, the new model fits the log catcher and also the 4way log wedge will fit the new model well too... Hope you like it, i've enjoyed mine. If you haven't seen my repair video, make sure you use stabil in your fuel... it doesn't take long for the carb to gum up if you aren't careful.

I've got one of these: don't burn ethanol gas!: 8" blade is not tall enough, need 12": it is capable of splitting large diameter logs, but the 8" blade makes for other than a clean split: never run it out of level on either axis, if you care about the engine: finding a hydraulic filter is nearly impossible; the part number crosses to NOTHING available: the company will send you one "under warranty" but will not sell you one: had to but Chief head and a few filters on my own; these days never know when a filter will see these shores: 4 way wedge has too short wings, sloppy split and much wood "tearing": of course blade on 4 way is also short at 8". Otherwise machine is great; I have split at least 20 cords so far. BTW the third machine actually ran, (Returned 2 as they would not keep running, no problem with Tractor Supply), but this one IS a winner: says something about Chines quality control: what's that? Also change oil often; engine will thank you!

So it's hard to say... I felt like i really wanted one but I'd say skip it for now and see if you think you need it later. It is helpful if you are buy yourself but not terribly helpful with two people. Keep in mind I had to go with the SpeeCo brand but the newer ones will fit the Countyline ones if you happen to buy one. I like to split my wood rather small so it dries faster so I'd prefer the 4way wedge to the log catcher but I guess since I dont' have it I use the catcher to hold pieces as cut them multiple times.

Two more things: I split at 2500 ft. elevation with no problems whatsoever and don't let your cylinder run anywhere near 180 degrees F., or you could burn up seals.

I did not have any problems with initial use and running. I did do a video where i had to clean out the carb due to bad gas sitting in it. It is running a bit rough now but that shouldn't be your issue. Strange on the smoke... was it crated with or without oil in it?

Dark smoke sounds like oil in the gas or maybe water in the fuel is making it run rough. I have heard of some of the Countyline stuff sitting outside for long periods of time and it’s possibly you have some water in the tank. Sorry to hear you are having a bad experience. Definitely worth calling them up and reporting and possibly requesting an exchange.

@@HardyBrothersOutdoors I drained the tank. It was definitely the gas. I let my 7 year old help fill the gas can at the station and he didnt get the lid on good. I remember when I went to pour it in the splitter gas ran everywhere, I think moisture got in it. I put fresh gas in and it ran fine. I don't know why I didn't think of that. This thing is going to save my life. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Yeh you are right. Worry about that. Rookie mistake back on video #10. If I recall the specs say it’s a 13 second cycle down and back but I could be wrong. The 25 ton countyline sells quick in the tractor supply stores in MN. I called a store and they said they had 1 left. By the time I got there 35 minutes later it was sold. So they gave me a raincheck, and my price dropped significantly I think because I put it together myself, if they don't have in stock, see if you can get raincheck and they will call you.
