Harewood House

Harewood House is a country house in Harewood near Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Designed by architects John Carr and Robert Adam, it was built, between 1759 and 1771, for wealthy plantation and slave owner Edwin Lascelles, 1st Baron Harewood. The landscape was designed by Lancelot "Capability" Brown and spans 400 ha at Harewood.

We went here 2nd of Jan 2022 never saw the bedrooms.Was a lovely place think the tour is only a small part .😍😍

The parking lot should eventually be placed underground. The cars ought’n pass by the front. The sight of cars needs to be illuminated entirely. One may view the house from a far distance and then enter a tunnel that take one to an underground garage, and then walk to the house or be shuttled to underneath the house to an elevator. There should be a dress code.

What would be the dress code, formal gowns and tuxedo's for the men? How silly. People visit stately homes while on vacation. You want them to dress up like 18th century nobles?

It's rather odd that when Americans tried to imitate this lifestyle, be it antebellum south, or northeastern old money, neo-industrialist, etc. it has failed miserably. Destroyed through war, economic collapse, changing times, etc., it has failed, as if God Himself said, "Enough!".

My favorite period of architecture. So stately and ornate. Sad that it was built on the misery and death of slaves, but now centuries later the public can enjoy it. I do have a real problem with the extensive lawns, knowing how many chemicals and how much energy is required to maintain them in the 21st century. In the USA, you could not possibly leave so many priceless articles within reach of tourists. The home would be emptied within days by looters.
