Roy Hargrove was the most complete musician of his generation: virtuoso improvisor, heart-stopping romantic balladeer, charismatic musical ambassador, tireless mentor to younger musicians, synthesizer of styles & genres, keeper of the flame and blazer of new trails. His untimely passing left a hole in the musical culture. Some losses are incalculable. His was one. The consolation, of course--and it is great indeed--is that we have the music he left behind, as well as the impact his presence had on others while he was here. This film does a good job of pointing us towards that consolation.

Another example of how the artist writes, performs, promotes and make the sacrifices but someone who doesn't look like the artist walk away with all of the proceeds and controls the bag. Rest in Peace to my brother Roy. As long as my lungs contract and expand, you will not be forgotten.

People listen to the music 🎶 but do not understand how hard it is on the body, mind, soul. Most musicians neglect their health to bring us their craft! THANK YOU!

Eliane I hope you get some recognition for this excellent piece. You’ve done us all a great service for this insight into Roy.

One of the greatest pieces of advice I’ve heard as a player from this doc is “spang a lang, spang a lang” and keeping the quarter note nice and fat. Pure gold from a true master.

Roy was the first living jazz musician I really got into when I was in my teens. He inspired me and made me realize that jazz is not just about the past greats but always the music of the present moment.

This is a great! It shows greatness and at the same time a human side that can be perceived in the music, but is not clearly distinguished. Thanks for this. Thanks Roy.

I went to the Detroit Jazz Festival in 2015 to see Mr. Hargrove close the second night playing with an orchestra. Simply soulful and serene playing his trumpet on stage, and I am soooo glad that I had the privilege of hearing him live.

I saw Roy Hargrove and Joshua Redman when we were very young, like 20 years old. They each won the IAJE (International Association of Jazz Educators)award that year. The great bassist Christian McBride was also there. Great cats that came to have great careers.

You can learn more about Mr. Hargrove listening to his gorgeous music than listening to his words. He fought many demons (and his manager surely saved his life several times and had to put up with lots of stuff, that's why they had this strange symbiosis). May he rest in peace now and have found his final place for his lonely soul. Thank you for this documentation.

Thank you so much for creating this beautiful and very raw documentary. I’ve been a big fan since 1990 and Roy’s music has been a constant through thick and thin. RIP and pain free Roy. Your music and legacy will live on.

i imagine roy wanted to do tour and needed to play and to make money...he was younger than me. i mostly listened to him 30 years ago and i looked him up during covid and found out he had passed...watching this is wonderful. he deserved to reach sonny rollins age, playing all the while.
