Ron Carter’s comments were sort of hypocritical. He was given the same opportunity in the 60’s that the young cats in the 90’s were given and he took full advantage of it.

As a GenX historian, marketer and trumpet player it has been fun to go back and see whose philosphies impacted my life the most and who was right. Like the Miles vs Wynton thing. The root of the problem is in the word jazz...it is so vague and amorphous...it is like marketing food, you have to cater to several different tastes and philosphies about food. None necessarily wrong. The issue is quality does not pay the bills. High art like classical is funded by donors. Record Labels are for making money with trends and trends are funded by youth, because they have time to kill. Older people have families and responsibilities. They dont really have time to be fans and blow money on merch in large numbers. America isnt Europe, our country doesnt do a good job of funding the arts and only white people have the funds to donate to preserver their culture.

Word salad. If you truly know the blues you can know jazz for the roots of jazz are the blues.
