Wow! What a great day out and up for you guys. Thanks for posting this, (and all the other scrambling videos you post too), . .it sure brought back some good memories for me. I've been up this mountain a few times back in the late eighties, early nineties. . .a wee while ago now. The last time, in '94, I, and 2 other co-instructors, lead a group of young offenders, 10 of them, up. The trail up to the ridge was not so well-defined then. We had our hands full keeping the party safe and secure. About 200' below the summit we came to a halt; most of the group were too freaked out from the steepness of the terrain and perceived exposure. We sat for a bit, sort of huddled together, to re-evaluate our situation. We decided not to coerce or push for a group summit bid, but if anyone wanted to go for it, we would guide them the rest of the way. . .there was one kid/young man who, in spite of his terror, wanted to go for it, so I had the privilege of guiding him up the rest of the way. I can't remember exactly what he said when we were up on top, but from his expression, his words, and look of sheer awe and wonder I knew his life had changed fundamentally. Could see it in the change of his attitude and behaviour in the following weeks and months. . .so Mt Rae, besides the delightful scrambling up it, and the spectaular views, has a very poignant memory for me. . . Having said that, maybe it's time to have another go at it. . .

...That's a cool story Ralph! The mountains can be life changing for sure. I still remember the look on my oldest boys face when I took him up Ha Ling the first time. Priceless. Theres always time to give Rae another try. Cheers!

I just did Mount Baldy in Riverside Ca via Devils backbone. I thought that was a case of vertigo. Good video. Baldy is 1064. Good video

One of my favorites for sure Marty. Round trip is only around 5 hours. Some of the funnest moderate scrambling I have done. I would do that one again for sure. Let me know if you need an extra when you head out. Take care!

Nice climb! I got this mountain still on this bucket list but all the smoke has been keeping away from the mountains. Looks like the smoke held off for you!

Saw you at Sentinel the other day! Should've said hi. How would you say this hike compares to Temple in terms of scramble difficulty?
@HarlanFox--Scrambles3 жыл бұрын
Hey Johnny. Rae definitely has quite a bit more hands on than Temple. That being said Rae is a very short day to do a 10,000 foot mountain. It was somewhere around 5 hours total. It's one of my faves for sure. The scrambling wasn't super hard though.

How much of the ridge scramble can you get around by taking the left path?
@HarlanFox--Scrambles3 жыл бұрын
I'm not 100% sure to be honest. I know you can get around a lot of it. Possibly all of it. I didn't go that way so I'm not 100% sure. Sorry.
