Oh that glorious feeling of buying a non-running bike, getting it running, and then being able to take it on its first ride. Nothing else like it. That was my story with the first bike I ever had and watching this straight up gives me nostalgia to that time in my life. Love it!!

What a lovely Electra Glide, the vintage radio is superb [ always lusted after one back in the day ]. Classic FL handlebars, the rear light bar is super, i still have one on my studio shelf that I got from Robisons HD in Daytona in 1981. I had 1977 and 81 Electra Glides, the 77 1200 ran well but the 81 spat and sneezed straight off the showroom floor, that was cured by fitting a Bendix carb and ditching that awful ' lunch box ' air cleaner that came on new 81 FLs. This classic just needs some TLC and a few engine mods, hope nobody puts ape hangers on it. A Classic Dresser !

Keihin carb is a nice one. Easy to tune right. No need for an S&S. Overrated and makes a shovel to run rich. Make sure you clean that Keihin , ultrasound cleaning is great. Get an rebuild kit and you are golden. Also clean the oil tank. Oil for diesel engines, make sure you get heavy weight, is OK. We / I ran/run our shovels with single 50 weight oil. When hot weather with STP or Bardahl. The original oil filter , in the oiltank, is not to good. You might change it fot an external automotive one. There are kits for that. Please do not power wash again. You will open a “ can of worms” doing that. Also you need to check on wheel, front fork, and swingarm bearings. Also make sure that your battery is charging. The ground of the charging regulator , via the bottom of it connecting to frame, can corrode and it will blow up your system. Make extra ground via one of the 2 screws and a wire to frame. Also go over the brake system. You got to change the brake fluids. Them shovels are getting a bit rare nowadays. They have there quirks but if set up right they are lovely bikes to ride.

Beautiful old Shovelhead. A few years later the Evolution came out and Harley was back! But I think AMF started the development of the Evolution motor. Please keep parts and dirty hands off that perfect white saddle! Get an ultrasonic cleaner at Harbor Freight and clean that carburetor properly. No need to buy new.

It's a shovelhead .. it'll run if your not a RUB or credit card biker .. went to 100th on my shovel .. I was definitely out of place with the clip on ponytails and the smell of new leather in the air ... I build that bike in my sleep and still run them today! Dumped the twin cam junk and picked up a 95 Evo decker as a replacement ... Going through it now so I could if I wanted to ride to Cali ( nope never again) and only change oil in Colorado.. last of the good ones and by far the best engine built

Lionel here in central California. What you have there is a 1978 1/2, 75th anniversary, 80 cubic inch FL. I know because I have one in the same color. Yours has more of the original parts than mine. I've had mine over 35 years and have never seen one in a museum or in a collection. The only 2 others that I've seen were in rough shape. Rare to find one so complete. That should have intake o-rings and Harley still makes them. They're better than the bands. I have the service and owners manuals, plus an unassembled model. Enjoy.

The off idle stumble is prolly the accelerator pump not working . The stock carbs work great when clean and assembled correctly . And rebuilding is much cheaper than replacing with an over priced S/S . Completely disassemble and boil it in a pot of water and blow out with carb cleaner .... Should work fine if all the settings are correct . Good luck ...

I worked for my local Harley dealer when that bike was new, we had serious problems with the valves sticking in the guides. Accepted fix was replacing valves with Manley stainless valves and bronze guides. The original carb should be a keihin, great carbs when clean and adjusted properly. S&S is a good carb, will just require some tuning to get it right. Love that FLH.

I bought a left over 1977 Harley full dresser in 1978. Every year after the first season's worth of driving, I winterize and put the bike in a clean, dry area. It would not start the following year. So what I did was buy a 50 foot skiing tow rope and tie one end to my neighbor's tow hitch on his car, then the other end (almost to the rope's end) one loop around the bike's left side front crash bar and hold the loose end as I straddled the bike. With ignition on, we would slowly roll forward until I was doing about 25 MPH. I would shift the bike into second and slowly engage the clutch so as to not jolt the bike. The bike would belch and fart as I let the rope completely escape the crash bar. It was all that was needed and for the rest of the season the bike started up normally. I rode in until 1983 then my wife-to-be said, "I want a house" and the bike was sold and that was that. 15 Years later, she got the house... and its contents and the Lincoln, and my boat. But I go the Wrangler & dog!

I wouldnt be afraid to buy a harley like that one at all if the price was right. That engine is tight. What that bike needs is a good mikuni carburetor on it. Or the cleaning of that current carb would also be okay. Other than that an oil change and purge and oil refill and it would probably go anywhere

Another thing is when a bike sat for ten years with gas in the tanks it evaporated the gas and the carb gums up that's why I always and I mean always shut my peacock off and run it dry running the carb dry then drain my tanks also another thing is the points get pitted sitting need to be cleaned and addressed and that bike will run like a million dollars ps I can hear the the timing is pretty much on so pretty much clean that carb better and points and that bike will run like gold I own a 72 flh and every season I shut my peacock down while running and my car never fails good luck my friend

Go through all the electrics with a mutlimeter checking resistance along cables and across connectors. Have a can of contact cleaner handy and a brass wire brush etc handy. You'll find lots of small oxidisation which isn't causing you a problem yet.... First few hundred miles on this are going to get all the problems coming out. Intake seals are definitely a good call, once you have the tank off go through everything under there that you can access. It'll save you going back in again and again.

You probably did more damage with that pressure washer than sitting for 12 years did. Starter fluid tends to burn holes in pistons. I hope you checked to see if it had oil in it before running it. It consumes practically no oil, required no valve adjustment even after 36000 miles of hooligan riding and track days and has never had a water intrusion issue or any major reliability issues (once had a wonky kill switch that I had to replace) I mean as long as you’re not shoving the nozzle right up to the bearing seals, the oil filter seals, and spark plug drain holes I can’t see how the pressure washer is doing much damage.

The more the babyboomers retire into homes an pass away, these finds will keep showing up, it's just amazing how the children are so quick to sell just for the money 😞, my question I don't need another but always looking, what is ball park price, thx.
