Reviews should be made after spending a good amount of time with something. Sometimes, KZbin Gear reviews feel like a complete kneejerk reaction. There tends to be a honeymoon period when buying products where you love everything about them, and then the rot sets in and you start to notice the flaws. It can be the other way round as well, where you hate something initially and then you grow into it.
@andrehayrapetian2512

The opposite here! I most often hate everything with the new product and notice all it’s flaws. Then It’s either so bad that I have to return it straight away or it grows on me as ”my axe” even tho the ”rot” sets in ^^ With that said, I see the logic with long term reviews tho. More truthful and useful.

Good morning from Texas John! I have two Harley Benton CST-24's and a PRS. I bought the latest "after " I got the PRS. My Harley Benton CST-24 HB is my favorite guitar. Yes even over the PRS. One main reason is "I'm still paying for the PRS. The Harley Bentons are all mine. I could have purchased 4 Harley Benton CST-24's for the price of the PRS.

I like my emerald green CST-24T. The tones are nice with the Roswell's and the Wilkenson bridge is very nice and stays in tune brilliantly. The issue i have is that the neck is a bit thin. It is the thinnest of the 9 guitars i have and it confuses my hand when i switch between. Love the channel.

Hi John, I wanted to check in to let you know how much I appreciate this video. Not too long ago I purchased a Harley Benton Fusion II HB FR PRO series and I love it. I have been considering the CST for a while now, and I think you have convinced me to make the move to purchase another HB....I don't mind making mods to a new guitar, because I believe as you, each guitarist will make some kind of mod to their liking. Thanks again for this post. Harley Bentons Rule !🎸

I have the vibrato model, about three months old. I find the tuners are the weak link, and if I were to keep the guitar, I would swap them out for locking tuners, or at least a higher ratio. I have it offered for sale now; I bought four Harleys to decide which kind of guitar I really like best. I concluded that I wanted a Gretsch, so now I have a CST and a SC with P90s for sale. They are good guitars, but I just craved the feel sound and mojo of a Gretsch. I'm keeping the JA(zzmaster) and the 335-type Harleys.

Have had a CST-24HB (hollow body) for some 8 months now. Roswell LAF AlNiCo-5 humbuckers, and an infinite sustain! Modded a piezo inside - two outputs to two amp lines. Works like a dream! Had a slight doubt about the bridge and its intonation settings - no worries, also with .009 string set. All hardware spot on. If only it had just a bit thinner C-neck for my tiny wieners ...

I was looking at buying one of these last year but they were out of stock. I checked back every few days - watching the counter until they were back in but just before it reached zero a PRS single cut SE came up for sale in Darlo for £10 less than the Harley. I tried it and loved it - so no Harley. I might still get one (if my wife allows) - the trans red looks beautiful to me - but I'd probably have to lose one of my basses and as I'm primarily a bass player that might not be wise.

My Cst-24T is 2 years old now it came w/ the Roswell pups, which I did not like. I had a set of Dragonfire Hexbuckers and it really came a live. Which is crazy cause that set of pups cost me like 40 bucks. The only other upgrade I did was I put in schaller locking tuners, which cost like twice as much as the pups.. But I had those on hand as well. I really like the neck on these only issue I had was that the fretboard was really dried when I got it, but just a dab of F-1 oil fixed that. I had like 2 'sharp' fret ends which I filed. But, for 200.00 bucks this is way way better than I expected when I ordered it. can't beat the price of these HB's.

4 months after purchase and my B-stock SC Custom VB is a gem. I only had to change neckrelief and bridge height, other than that awesome right out of the box, I love it. I just got the cheapest Harley Benton Strat and spent all afternoon playing it yesterday, getting used to it and enjoying it too. Neck position is heavenly sweat even with the unbranded stock PUs, which at some point further on I will upgrade anyway. In the near future, I'll only change the tuners, for which I ordered replacement Harley Benton locking tuners straight away along with the guitar, and might adjust the trem spring claw so the trem bar can have some effect. I tried it and the trem won't budge, which I expected would be the case as they usually ship these with the claw so tightly screwed in that the bridge has no play, practically making it a hard tail. We'll see how that goes, since I have no experience with strat bridges whatsoever. Not disappointed at all for a guitar that cost 10 euros less than the Drop tune pedal I also got with it (for inatant drop tunings whithout having to fuss with the tuners, tuning down and up again all the time), which is a charm (not Harley Benton tho, Digitech). Using it so far to play Voodoo Child :)

I've bought myself a CST-24T P90 a few weeks ago and it's a fantastic tool and looks absolutely stunning in Ocean Blue. I love the way it feels, the way it plays, the way it sounds; the only sad thing with Harley Benton is that it's really hard to find the good models in authentic configurations; the P90s on this one were a compromise since I didn't want yet another guitar with humbuckers and would have preferred a SSS configuration. But I really love playing it so much, I'm playing it pretty much every day while my other guitars are gathering dust. Still hoping to find a T-style guitar with authentic pickup configuration from HB one day...

I love the look of nice wood grain. Both tops, from the Harley Benton or your Gordon Smith have beautiful wood grain, all be it from very different types of woods. I am one that greatly prefers the look and feel of a double-cut guitar and also a carved top guitar, so the Gordon Smith would be losing points on my score card. I like your Gordon Smith.... but I would have preferred a double cut version at least.

Also I was reading somewhere that if the intonation gets screwed up somehow that it's not adjustable on that bridge but I like the fact that it probably stays in tune a lot better than the other bridge I could be totally wrong
@JRobsonGuitar
@JRobsonGuitar 4 жыл бұрын
The intonation is fine on this kind of bridge as long as you know how to set it. You set the overall angle with the two grub screws on the posts (check your E strings to get this) then adjust the G & B string saddle to get those two sorted out. It's comparable to a 3 saddle Tele bridge in terms of how "spot on" you can get it.

I would probably own several Harley Benton guitars if they were sold in retail shops here in the USA. I can't bring myself to buy a guitar I have never touched or play QC roulette. I have been eyeing many of their guitars, particularly the fusion II and CST 24s. They seem to be great quality overall, but a guitar has to feel just right for me to bring it home (has to be affordable too).

Hello from Berlin. Dear John knock off or no knock off? You had an in depth vid on this which i liked. So ... ain't the Gordon a knock off on the LP Junior? and wasn't the Les Paul built as a cheap answer to the Fender Tele, which sold better than the very expensive Gibson full bodies back then ... and wouldn't the Junior be the correct leveled Gibson answer to the (pre-)Mustangs etc. ??? (now i remember: the Musicmaster and Duosonic ... ) We will never ever get out of this rutt ... so why not just laugh, smile and go on .... even Einstein took some off his predecessors like Lorenz ... Ordering a Custom axe can help to avoid "playing everybody's darling". I decided to do a PartsCaster build on me own recently. So i might play an axe which is quite unique BUT it's still a Tele style Body (thus Zebrano might be sparse). The neck is a custom neck done by a German luthier with a unique headstock design ... BUT it's still a bit of a Straty looking thing (;-)) knock knock knock ... All i can say is: it does have an oil finish and i love the natual look and feel of it just like i would love your Gordon one (shouldn't the name rather be Gorgeous Smith (;-)) Oh ... and: modding/building a guitar does make it more yours than everything else would!

Hi John, I watch your videos - and I’ve seen a lot of them - for many different reasons. Sometimes it’s to get ideas about technique, sometimes to hear your take on other players, sometimes for the jokes and so on. But the main reason is I just like listening to you talk about guitars and guitar-related matters. I remembered while watching this a remark of Eric Clapton’s. He said something to the effect that the main thing about a guitar is how it makes you feel when you play it. Clearly that involves many things: the sound of it, the tonal possibilities and the ease of getting them, the feel of the neck, the weight, the finish, the history etc. Before the arrival of pedals it was I imagine from recordings usually possible to guess what kind of guitar a player was using. A strat couldn’t sound like a Gretsch hollowbody, a tele or a 335. But with the arrival of analogue and digital modelling it is quite possible to conceal the identity of a guitar by, e.g., thickening the sound of single coils or even the reverse. There are limits of course. But I’m wondering if you agree that, sound aside, the main thing is feel. And given that the sound can be so much manipulated, maybe the feel is no beginning to be more important than ever. What do you think?

Just for info, I recently bought the CST 24 and it has a Wilkinson bridge. It weighs 115 Gms so I think it's a pretty solid bridge. The only thing that puzzles me is that I have read on many websites that it is recommended to fit a bridge that has a flatter radius than the guitar neck . The CST spec lists it as bing 350mm or 13.77" radius. Im not sure that Wilkinson make a 14" bridge to suit and I've not seen any 16" bridges. In practice I wonder what the difference really is in string height and does it affect the playability significantly?

I have the hollow body version of this. Beautiful looking guitar and pretty good now (especially for the money) s and with a set up it feels pretty good. I don't love it, though. Hello John, what about the intonation with this bridge? It seems like it is set permanently. Unfortunately I often had problems when strings weren't made well.

I have a question. Hopefully someone can possibly answer this. I have some vintage bass and treble PRS pick ups that probably cost me twice as much as this guitar and I wanted to replace the pick ups. There are three wires coming from the prs pups and four wires coming from the Harley Benton Roswell pick ups. Is there a way to install them maybe bypass the split coil? I opened it up and literally have no clue. I’m used to just swapping pick ups out and soldering wires and re-soldering wires.

Never been a fan of over the top AAA book matches either. Particularly in a cheap guitar, but even the expensive prs in solid colours look better to me

Excellent video. I was checking these out recently on Thomann's site, and in the comments some people had negative things to say about the wraparound bridge. Made it sound like a deal-breaker. Just curious, was your replacement a "drop in"?

I guess the big question is how much money did you sink into it in after market parts that might not have needed with a proper PRS?
@JRobsonGuitar
@JRobsonGuitar 4 жыл бұрын
Tuners: £25 Pickups: £30 Bridge: £30 So £85 (ish) in after market parts plus the £165 price of the guitar. I reckon I'm still making a saving 😄

Until recently, I've always found them to be pretty good. However my last experience of them was that they sat onj my order for nearly a week without despatching it. Any enquiries from me were met with auto-generated "excuse" emails. Still... one bad experience over the years isn't too bad, I suppose.

@@JRobsonGuitar Yeah, everyone gets an oopsie every now and then. If it was two or three bad experiences in a row, I'd be concerned personally. I am thinking of getting one of their guitars, so I was wondering how the customer service was because I usually try not to buy a guitar without playing it first.

There are only a few styles of guitar bodies that are popular. The Tele, Strat, Les Paul, and SG are all made by dozens of companies and they too are knockoffs...Why should a PRS knockoff be any different? I have a CST24 Ocean Flame and it's beautiful and plays well.
@triax7006
@triax7006 7 ай бұрын
Good point. Companies are selling basically "knockoffs" of Tele's, Strats, Les Pauls for thousands of £'s if they have the right name on the headstock especially the god awful reliced ones. The more & more I see ppl lusting over those guitars when they offer nothing over any other guitar is always hilarious. For the prices they charge I would expect actual premium features that could not be possible on a cheaper guitar. Things like a carbon fibre neck (oh but "trad" guitars have to be wood") And pickups that are so high tech that they could be basically any pickup. The guitars being sold now have not moved on in tech since the first solid body ones were whilst other guitar equipment has.

Don't know how the guitar has fared but your Barnet went south sir ! Bit personal of me. I wonder if you are up for reviewing the beautiful looking HB Blue GOTOH SG...? Tesla pick ups!? not Elon musks company surely? The website says ebony fretboard? Stainless steel frets. gotoh tuners and bridge ... I seem to recall locking staggered tuners...Love the look and price but is it any good john? I've not seen you with an SG . IF you don't like them no worries . it might be my 3rd Harley Benton. Know what you mean about overly posh looking axes. Rough and ready looking works. I love Rory Gallaghers famous strat ...but not a fake relic !

What!? The first guitar i got was a Hondo Les Paul copy, i bought it for DFL 80,- In 1984! That was about 20 British Pounds like then?! It looked like a Gibson, and it sounded even better. But i never felt, sorry! It was a ideal way to learn guitar on the cheap! i realy didn't care fore big moneymakers and filling their pockets, I would learn the guitar, as cheap as possible! So i would not think too much over copyrights, ore people judging over poor or rich! If they buy a Apple, well let them waste their money, only to show their wealth, who cares? apologize
