Actually the brand's origins are even older. Way before Thomann started selling Harley Bentons (and way before the internet-age), there was another huge German retailer, who had a housebrand called "Jim Harley". After that seller had gone bankrupt in the mid 90's, Thomann bought up what was left of him and renamed the brand "Harley Benton".

I have the 1x12 cab (now with a G12H30) and I’m so happy with it. Fun analysis, which sounds rather spot on and one that seems to work: here in Sweden Harley Benton cabs are EVERYWHERE, because for what you get it’s just so much. I see people use the cheap price of them by getting the V30 and changing speakers and then selling the V30 used.

What a great time to be a guitar player!! I started in the '70s when music equipment may have been at its most expensive era when adjusted for inflation and compared against average income. Things are so much cheaper these days it's just CRAZY! These brands also REALLY shine a light on products such as those from Fender's Custom Shop - of which I own two. I love both my CS Telecasters, but at 5x the price of my Fernandes teles they really only are marginally better and certainly they don't produce better MUSIC! And I'm thinking these HB guitars might be similar to the Fernandes, especially the later ones.

Hey Phil, I have the side by side version of that cab, I've pulled the back panel, and yes, it is definitely plywood. I keep my Fender Supersonic 22 head sitting on top, but have been known to plug my Blues Jr. into it as well. I haven't tested for high volume (vibration) but I've had mine for 3 years now, with no worries. One note about Thomann: If you buy multiple items, they only charge you shipping once. I bought one last August. In my case it came broken. Now i wasnt sure who was responsible for it.. Although i would not be shocked it was the USPS. That said i opened it all up and saw the plywood was cheap and the cabinet was put together with very thin staples. That said i recently moved to a house with a nice garage. i took it apart had to fix a crack in the wood and put it back together using screws and i added some casters while i was at it. I can confirm they are vintage 30s due to this. Also that all said even broken this thing sounds amazing. I used it with 3 amps a three channel mesa boogie and compared it to my mesa 4x12 cab. A 6505mh and the prs mt15. I use it primarily with the latter and it's such a perfect pairing. So even with the issue I would still recommend it. You arent going to get anything this good at this price.

Phillip, thank you. After watching this video I went to Thomann's site. The Single Cut Guitar Kit (shaped like a Les Paul), was $77. Holy crap, Really? I've always wanted to build a guitar. At $77, how could I go wrong? Even if I constructed it poorly and it played terribly, I'd still have gone thru the process of building a guitar. So I bought the guitar kit, even though I really came for a cabinet. At $225 for the 2x12 cab loaded with V30 Celestions, I Couldn't go wrong there either! They arrived today in California, from Germany, in 5 days. Just when they promised them. The total with freight came to about $400. The cab sounds great and I've got some study to do before starting the guitar project. The cab sounds beautiful. I run a Bogner Atma w a 1x12 cab and wanted to see what a larger cab would do, but didn't feel like gambling $500. It's a much fuller sound, commensurate with the increase in cab size. After a short time playing it, I find that it's a bit brighter than my Bogner 1x12, which is also closed back. You feel the music more, (which was what I was looking for), because of the sloped face and height, I believe. As noted in some videos on the cab, the fit and finish aren't what one might expect from a Marshall or other big name cab. If this matters a lot to you, you may not be satisfied with one of these. If you wanted an inexpensive art project, you could tear off the Tolex and grille and you'd have a blank canvas, that sounds great. I'm less concerned with looks and it looks like a dynamite bargain to me. Thomann's was absolutely superb. This was one of the simplest, fastest transactions of my life. I will absolutely shop there again and would recommend them to anyone. And If you're thinking about getting some of their gear, I wouldn't wait. I believe they've set ultra low prices to get their name out there and develop brand recognition. As other's have stated, the speakers alone would cost ~$275 a la carte from Sweetwater, today. At these prices, demand may soon outstrip supply and prices will go up. And FWIW, I have no association with Thomann's or Phillip McKnight. I just wanted to thank Phillip for making the video and Thomann's for making the gear.

I had one of the super cheap 15 watt Monoprice Tube amps that some rave over and with in a week of unboxing it the Tolex was peeling in every direction. The cut Tolex was shrinking away from the joints. Then the reverb went away. Next the Amp went back for credit. I hope HB holds their supplier to higher standards.

I have the 112 version and it is amazing! i will probably buy the vertical 2x12 because omg they are so good and have the best speakers
@brettshawver29835 жыл бұрын
I was looking at these but ended up going with the Mojotone Imperial 2x12 vert slant cab with v30's. It was $499 with free shipping & is built like a tank! Paired with the PRS MT15 Mark Tremonti head with the Helix LT in 4CM & we dubbed this small rig "The Giant Killer"!! I'm definitely gonna keep an eye on the HB stuff for sure! Keep doing the good stuff !!!!!! 🤘😁🤘
@jamesf29185 жыл бұрын
That’s actually pretty damn impressive. I am curious though, did you break the speakers in before recording this demo? I know you have mentioned that process on a live stream before.
@gabrielledebourg24874 жыл бұрын
Something I realized when Phil was talking about brand awareness and market share: the greater market share you have, you can make less profit you have to make per product, where it instead comes from the sheer volume of products netting you a profit. This is helped more by Harley Benton being Thomann’s own brand, meaning they can have even lower margins.
@Damaged2625 жыл бұрын
PHIL! Sssssssush! I can't afford it right now Don't let them know they've been noticed, I'm trying to save up for the PRS fake, not to mention a cab!

Celestion still does make V30's in England, though they're specifically made for Mesa (and maybe MIB Orange?) cabs. You can still buy the MIB V30 through Mesa's online store page for the same price as the current MIC version.

i thought the vintage 30s are made in china , and the only celestions made in the uk are the alnico ones , maybe i'm wrong ?
@soulstringer5 жыл бұрын
Just curious, when you took the back off to confirm that the Vintage 30s are real, did you also confirm that the back panel is also made of plywood like the housing is?
@PhillipMcKnight5 жыл бұрын
No back panel, The speakers are from loaded on to a plywood baffle. So the whole cabinet is ply.

Just got myself the horizontal cab recently also. They're amazing!!! I use it for my kemper & the sound is fantastic. It's so light & has the option of 8 ohm to 16 ohm. If anyone is think of getting this but on the fence, JUST DO IT!!!

I just got two of the 1 x 12 Cabinets loaded with the Celestions. They're just brilliant. Especially for the money. Everyone take advantage of these "Loss Leaders" while they're doing them. If not... well it's your loss.
@willcresson87764 жыл бұрын
Don't be fooled, this isn't a loss leader. Harley Benton is making money on these. Most guitar cabinets are just insanely overpriced/marked up (see literally the same cab from orange for $500). You can get those celestion speakers for like $40/ea if you're buying (iirc) a hundred or more at a time. Hell, if you're buying ten or more you can get them for less than $100. HB is buying them in the thousands, if not tens of thousands. Theyre likely getting them for a song.
@dingdong60694 жыл бұрын
@@willcresson8776 Yes you're absolutely right. Its why I called them "Loss Leaders" in inverted commas and capitals but maybe should have explained or qualified that with more detail. I worked for over 25 years in musical instrumental distribution so have been involved in quite a few "loss leaders' myself over the years. Yes the economies of scale will allow them to buy in bulk at highly discounted rates but they have 'skimped' on the cabinet. Your robustly solid Orange would tour very easily. These Harley Benton's? Hmmmm.... I'd be taking a couple of spares with me put it that way. But they do sound the business!. They really, really do.
@willcresson87764 жыл бұрын
@@dingdong6069 you bring up some very valid points, vis a vis rigidity, but on the other other other hand you could alove that pretty quick with a trip to the hardware store and some wood screws and barely be any the poorer. I think I get what you meant though, that they could over charge for it (and it would still sell and be a good deal relatively speaking), but they don't because it's good publicity and leads to more over all sales down the line?
@dingdong60694 жыл бұрын
@@willcresson8776 Absolutely! The idea is that you're so happy with your incredibly value for money Harley B's even if just for practice/recording that next time you're in the market for whatever your first point of call is Thomann. One thing I'll point out that many are not aware of is the warranty situation. For such as myself being in the UK I have of course happily purchased off German based Thomann many times. All well and good. However, if I have any issues - even if the product is still under warranty - then I am liable for getting the product back to Germany. Not Thomann. People often refute this but I simply cite the example of buying a pair of trousers. You go to the store, select them, pay for them and take them home - but - for whatever reason you have to return the trousers a few days later and the store happily replaces them for you with no quibbles. So you go home happy again with your new pair. But its cost you gas/petrol to drive there and back. Maybe even to park. Or you may have had to buy a return ticket on the bus or train. The store does not refund or compensate you for that. You do it under your own steam. So you are invariably out of pocket. So the thing to consider when buying off Thomann (unless you're in Germany of course) is the "what if it goes wrong?" question. Ok, some strings or a strap or even a cheap 1 x 12 cab you might take the hit on. Doesn't matter if it breaks just buy a new one. But if your purchase is a considerable sum and the product one that may need fixing or repairing then it needs to be factored in before you make the transaction and consider the store in town, even though its more expensive might be a better option warranty wise. Hope that helps!

i just bought HB 4 x 12 with Vintage 30's and i think its a great deal. The build quality inside the cab is not the greatest but nothing a little carpenter skills cant sort. I've sealed it up inside, reinforced and it sounds great, better than when i bought it. Cant beat it at the price.

I just bought a Harley Benton jazz bass. It’s $160 and it’s so good. Easily beats a $400 squire and comes very close to a $700 MIM Fender. Would totally recommend it.

price went down to 222..... i recently bought a used G212 vintage (horizontal).... it is just good. also much louder then the 212 i also have which has eminence legends in it. i also used to have the version that does not have the vintage 30s in it.... it was just bad. the. worst. speakers. ever. i learned what "ice picky" sounds like from that speakers.

Hey gang! After seeing this video I bought this cabinet, and then ve had it about 2 weeks. I play an evh lbx 2 with a full band, and have compared it to the stock evh212 cab, and a carvin legacy 212 I've given it, on estimate, 30-40 hours of play time at stage volume. I do NOT think it sounds like my legacy cab, even tho they both have celestion v30. Legacy are UK made, HB are Chinese. First noticeable difference is the HB cab is lower in volume, tinnier on the highs, and less round on the lows. It's night and day with the evh cab but that was expected. The speakers are totally different. I may need more time to break in the speakers, but imo it sounds fine for the price, definitely a budget cabinet.
Lol you were jamming a little bowling for soup there! It's honestly a sick sounding cab, I've been needing new gear and Harley benton looks like my new go to

Just bought the horizontal version for $202. Such a great deal, especially for a total casual amateur like me who really doesn’t even need this but, you know, G.A.S. The stereo mode on the horizontal looks cool, and I can add some feet to the end and turn her sideways when I want. Also, this being my first cab, I’ve opened up the door to amp heads! Woo how! Can’t wait for delivery!

I did some work at an amp company in China that build fantastic amps for several major brands. The speakers come in full containers so its a lot of speakers per shipment/order and the price drops based on huge volume. Thats how its done. Buy 10,000 speakers at a time and the price drops per unit.
