Which one did you like best ?

ANYTHING is better than the piece of shite 70/80! Aussie made Lorantzs would be even better. I've tried mine with my MP version and even tho not quite as loud, the sound was fuller, tighter and with better, less harsh high end clarity! GOOD swap Brent! WAS that V30 UK made or CN made? Cheers Guv!

70/80 actually because its more focused sound. I don't find it muddy at all, if anything it's the V30 that can become a mudfest once you add enough gain. If anything I'd just stick an EQ pedal. Usually cheaper than a speaker swap and very useful in a lot of scenarios.

@@DMSProduktions IMHO 70/80 is far from being a POS. It's a legit Celestion speaker recipe that works well for cutting through the mix and records very well too. Especially if you allow it to break in. It doesn't have the fatter bottom and chimeyness of a V30 when played clean, for sure, however with any reasonable amound of drive they take off. I usually prefer to have more drive and get the clean tone by guitar volume roll-off. That way it has more bottom end and chimeyness and you can also quickly jump to something crunchier in no time. I almost always see people swapping stuff for sometimes no reason, like "upgrading" stock Dimarzio/IBZ pickups to "real" Dimarzios. Despite the fact those are basically Dimarzio Super2 and SuperDistortion crossed with Steve's Special made in the same Dimarzio USA factory :))) There's an audience for everything, I even know people who really like the INF pickups in the older lower tier Ibanez models. Aaaanyway I really like this amp and its touch response with its shitty stock Celestion :) If anything I'd probably mod the input to a higher resistance value so that it allows more top end when using humbuckers and singles alike.

@@andreil1234 ALL valid points/options! I personally did NOT like ther 70/80 in the amp I got. It IS ok in isolation, but then hear it next to a better speaker, (LIKE my Lorantz vintage types) & there is NO comparison. They are a speaker that flatters just about ANY amp!

@@BrentHutchinson The Vintage 30 sounded better BUT it also has three years of being broken in. I wonder what my celestion 70/80 will sound like after three years of playing.

Tbh.... they both sounded great and equally valid to my ears. However, the 30 watt speaker in a bigger cab is definitely more practical for pub/small halls when gigging. Nice to see you both yesterday too. Enjoy your birthday celebrations at the weekend! 😁👍xx

Good Vid! Just swapped out the 70/80 for a V30. I’d recommend anyone with a Tube 15 to give it a go. The difference in character and presence is something that’s difficult to show on the comparison. Oh, and I’ve used a Chinese manufactured V30 (and it sounds spectacular!!).

I put Celestion Creamback G12H-75, bias new output tubes, put Mullard 12ay7 NOS in V1, 50s 12ax7 RCA in V2 and Mullard 12ax7 in V3, installed bias for V1 position and the amp got more treble, three-wire reverb, it now sounds like $1500.

This is the video I was looking forward to,,, I knew you'd have a crack at the speaker swap and I gotta say it's closer than I expected, but V30 is the way 👍👍... The other thing you could try, which I know you could easily do, is make a baffle to plug the back of the Tube 15's Cabinet to make it closed back or open back and compare sounds.. would be very interesting.👏👏♥♥♥♥

The 70/80 definitely sounded more muddy, especially when playing chords. It sounded ok on the single string notes, but the Vintage 30 had much better chord articulation.

The 70/80 sounds good but i use my vintage 30 cabinet i prefer for practice at home ! But later i decided to play thru two amps and i use the 70/80 in the stock amp and use a Vintage 30 in the BadCat Cougar amp for practice ! Once you get away from the amp your highs drop off badly . This is the case on every amp !

oh man... I used to hunt for old Spider 2 amps from line 6- can get them cheap and they come with legit celestions in them. I swapped one into a Fender Frontman. So much better. Vintage 30 for sure BTW

It V30 is money well spent IMO. Better articulation, more "life" and more presence. That doesn't mean the standard speaker is bad - and it's going to be better as it breaks in but - in this test, the well-broken-in V30 is the better speaker. The only trouble is - it's not quite "apples to apples" - new speakers need a bit of wear-and-tear to loosen up the stiff fibres and the difference is substantial.

The celestial speaker is a plus, however, If I had to buy the Vintage 30 speaker new, I’d invest the money towards a new amplifier like a 1 watt Marshall DSL or another tube amp in that price range.

Because you can add a new set of tubes and a new speaker and still fork over less than you would with a Blues Junior. This ~$250 amp already blows the BJr away right out of the box.

Once the 70/80s get more broken in and "relaxed" they start sounding sweeter, janglier and filling the bottom end more readily while still keeping it tight on higher gain stuff. They are actually very good speakers IMHO.
