Harley Davidson 131 Screaming Eagle Crate Motor - What's it like as an everyday rider?

I have put close to 1k on my ‪@harleydavidson‬ 131 in the two weeks I've had it and this past weekend for a 300 mile turn and burn and I feel like I have a good handle on what this motor is going to be like. Tomorrow we will put some more aggressive tunes on her and get her ready to load for our journey up to the ‪@SturgisBuffaloChip‬ next week.

Had 131 for 2 years. Done 4 corners and 48 state rides, 12,422 miles and 8,933 miles. No failures, hiccups, or problems. Great motor. 40-44 miles per gallon...

I love my 131. I've had it over a year on my bike and never had a problem. The 131 is the best motor I've had since the Evo.

I have the 131 kit on my 20 ultra and have had no issues with it. My wife and I just last week took a 1146 mile vacation on it and it was as dependable as it was stock. And you might be surprised at the numbers you get off the dyno. I got 145 horse and 155 torque. I had reinhart exhaust.

I think your new motor sounds perfect. It’s just the right amount of rumble for my taste, so congratulations. That’s really smart, you guys talking about people beating the tar out of their engines and the thing breaking in some way. I haven’t been watching the channel for too long. So I didn’t realize where you are. I am down by leesburg and I just got a new road glide with a 107 from the Harley dealership there, and started with stage 1. So begins the journey. I don’t think I need to do anything else except maybe a cam, but I probably will anyway. Anyway great videos sir and enjoy the 131!

When you experience the 131 in the Black Hills, you are gonna be even happier! The 131 is an all around amazing powerplant. They did it right. Reliability has not even begun to be an issue. Take care of your machine and she will tale care of you.

I've seen m8's being rebuilt at 40,000 with internal issues. Rotationg assembly. That's just a few stories out of thousands of engines though

I have heard that the 1st gen M8 had some clutch and balancer issues. I have a 2019 Heritage with a stage 4 117 and she is perfect after more than 20k miles. My 2021 RGS has a stage 4 131 and has 13k miles and is perfect. I truly believe it is all about the break in and just not abusing the bike. That being said, I do not ride my bike at its limit all the time. I take care of my machine and know it isn't a race bike. She does move when I wanna set my hair on fire though. She moves real good. Failures often have more to do with the rider than the horse in my opinion. However, it is a machine and machines aren't perfect and they do not always cooperate. Stay shiny side up all!

Glad you like the 131. But it needs to be addressed that not all riders need a 131. As a truck driver and rider I see too many people have power that they don't have the skill set for or experience to have under them. I have stock 107. Took it from Fl to the Ozarks up to Saint Louis and the Tail of the Dragon. And that motor did excellent. 90% highway all the way, with no trouble. Maybe I'm just getting old (50), I just see to may people with more power than they need.

Had a Jim’s 131 in my ‘09 Street Glide for 45k; had a big ol’ pile of fun with that, including a 1,300 mile solo 1 day pound for 18.75 hours. I swapped an M8 131 into a ‘17 FLTRXS. C19 phukked things up for that 1,200 mile experience. Now that 131 sits on the floor waiting to be stuffed into a ‘21 RG CVO. I’m not sure if I’ll get the swap done this season; it doesn’t matter, I’m getting along with other big fun iron; although I miss the 131 torque.

I bought my 131 kit for "spirited riding" canyons etc. using a performance motor as intended but also just only my daily cruiser/touring bike. hoping it holds up. i personally wouldnt spend the coin to solely go 55 on it. but thats why its your build and not mine!

I see comments about the 2 into 1 exhaust being a power robber but the biggest numbers I've seen coming off the Dyno is with 2 into 1's. Maybe not the Cobra pipes. Years ago we put my fresh 130 ci build on the Dyno with 3 different sets of pipes: Straight pipes sucked and robbed at least 25% of expected hp & torque; Short 3 step 2 into 2's where pretty good but the best numbers came from the 2 into 1 full collector stainless steel setup. I still run the 3 step 2 into 2 pipes because I like the way they sound and look (and I didn't own the other 2 sets). I'd like to see a short take on the new truck. I'm past my new truck buying days but would like to see what's out there. You and yours have a safe and kick-ass trip to the Black Hills and back.

@@ProfessionalMonkey One of the comments said something about getting rid of the side dump because it was going to rob power. I've seen comments other places about 2-1 robbing power. Most of us know that's not right. I love the way the new 131 sounds in your bike. Also, just saw your video on the new truck, thanks. My '05 Dodge 3/4 T Quad cab Diesel was stickered at 55K and that was the last new one I will ever own. 17-18 years later and now the price has doubled. I'm sure you're going to enjoy the heck out of that rig, especially on the upcoming Sturgis run. Looking forward to postings from Sturgis.

You are right alot of people who put the Big Bore kits in are looking for numbers better than the others. Reliability will get you down the Road with out clutch or transmission problems , Throttle Down and Roll on Down the Highway having more Cu. In. Has a different feeling.

Hey to the monkey's from Michigan I would like to know if you could do a walkaround of your dad's Tri-glide to show all of the up grades that you and him have added to it. I own a 2021 Tri-glide ultra in vivid black. I've doon a few things, mostly cosmetic, like "live to ride ride to live" primary, air cleaner, timing cover and fuel tank covers, floor boards, flame grips, brake and shift pegs. I also had a orange flame pin strip paint job done with "don't tread on me" graphic. You have inspired me to do some more upgrades like tab performance slip ons, custom dynamics lights, etc. Your KZbin channel is great, love your humer and realism, you tell it like it is. alot of good info and comments im reading. im in the process of either im going to engine kit the 107 to 124 or putting in the 131 crate motor for my 2018 trike i like to travel and worrying of heating issues on the 600 miles a day i ride when i travel example last yr i went from florida to north carolina to west virginia then to do few runs on the dragon trails then back to florida in 5 days the 107 did good but at nearing 70 thousand miles time to upgrade or replace some. Leaning towards the 131 crate seems to be everything i want and can travel with at 75 mph without a care in the world of over working the motor.

I bought the 131 complete engine and I always get all my engines I buy and pay for unacceptabled completely I don’t ever trust anyone to put any engines together and I get the full engine together and I just install it on a bike and it works perfectly nooo it’s just a waste of money to buy it like that I check out everything and make sure everything is right and good and I put the engine together I have a very very bad habit I have gotten myself into back in the day I was only 18 years old I had to put my racing engines out stripped down and rebuilt and set back on the bike and tune up the engine and dyno the bike and running perfectly and I had this 131 stroker roller 3/4 cams and I had to go all out and add some more torque and horse pressure lol and had it sitting on my dyno in three hours and turned it up and I hit it hard three pulls and then it was in Taft Tennessee at my dad’s house in 6 hours of putting the engine together and putting it on dyno and road test so yeah we don’t play it’s a mission to us to complete it all right and not having to wake up and go reload everything that was all done and then ooops I forgot about that and pop goes your entire engine lol and that my friend is why e stay on top until the engine is ready

I put a harley cool flow fan kit on my 103 stage 2 and the difference in the temp is amazing. Practically no heat in 95 deg weather. Just sayin Might be beneficial to you also.

Hey brother, so I’ve dropped a comment a few times. I have a 2018 anni Breakout with 14” apes. I had the misfortune of my oil pump sumping and burning up my top end. So we built it back with 128 S&S and some Fueling parts. It was Dyno tuned at 123hp & 148tq. I wonder what a 131 would Dyno out at 🤨 sounds good brother!

the 131 sounds good! Forgive me if you have already addressed this question- You said you have the DynoJet PV3 on it and running auto tune. Do you have the Target Tune with the wide band O2 sensors on it?

I have them but never installed them. The tech said those are great for tuning yourself but for him tuning on a DYno they actually might be more trouble than he would like.

My StreetBob is tuned well to 137 Ft-Lbs at the wheel, which is good enough...and yes I can/do ride it all the time. Not as much as my Streetglide, but it makes a daily-driver bike pretty well for as much as i do ride it. But then, I also don't thrash it like a racing bike, either.
