The company is shifting away from its American base. That same American base will not appreciate this. They will lose more customers who buy other styles of bikes. After their woke stance, they may have already lost a major percentage. Nothing like kicking a few more in the teeth. Our whole range save for the new X350 and the X500 are out of Thailand, the X series are out of China. We don't sweat it too much. It's not advertised obviously through the dealers that your new H-D comes from Thailand rather than the US. I don't suppose that 'Ride the Thai Legend' on all of the branding in the dealerships would have the same ring to it as 'Ride the American Legend'. When I purchased my new 2024 CVO Road Glide I pointedly asked the dealer where the bike will be made and he responded "I think the CVO's are still made in the US" I'm sure he full well knew they come from Thailand. The compliance label is even positioned so its difficult to read (impossible) the country of manufacture. The build quality is still there but I do notice that things like the paint, etc. has declined over the years compared to earlier H-D's I've owned. However I'm presuming that this is the same irrespective of where the bike is manufactured. I also note little cost savings in the way of no compendium for the owners manual but a plastic bag. Thanks for the video it was good to hear what was said in that press conference as I had not heard it mentioned elsewhere. Thailand is often referred to as the "Detroit of Asia" due to its strong presence in the automotive and motorcycle manufacturing industries. Major Chinese EV brands and Japanese car manufacturers have established significant operations in the country. Thailand's plants are highly efficient in vehicle assembly and meet the Board of Investment (BOI) requirements. To take advantage of tax benefits, many parts are produced locally. For motorcycles, all major Japanese brands have production plants in Thailand, along with Triumph and Ducati, which manufacture bikes for export to Asian and European markets. Companies choose Thailand for its favorable tax incentives, low labor costs, and an efficient supply chain with locally sourced parts.

Then it becomes all about the bottom line, all else be damned. Also you have the union whose interests are at odds with management, It's like two dogs fighting over the same bone. This is when the decision becomes clear about relocation even though the bean counters know it will come at a high cost.

Some good points in this video, the Thailand plant may have too much capacity as the market for the big twins may face some challenges. Only few people in the ASEAN countries has the means to purchase a big twin and the European customers are bordering on a recession. So moving production makes business sense. HD do need to lower their price of entry to the bike lineup. My main grief with the new Sportster line is the design and feel. Talked to a dealership salesperson in my home country of Denmark and they are not selling in significant numbers. Moving the production of these could also be a good way for HD to discontinue this line and focusing the US manufacturing to a new entry level model.

Given how poorly the Revolution Max motorcycles have been received I could care less where they are made, they were designed here and that is the important part. Look at it this way, Harley has new riders learning on Chinese designed and Chinese manufactured motorcycles so if that wasn't enough to worry people this move should not concern them either. Harley needs to be more price competitive and another legendary brand long ago allowed lower displacement bikes to be made outside their home country, BMW. They now have a complete line up starting at $6k to over $30k. Let us all be honest. Harley's volume has not been improving and in a decade has dropped by a third. last note, given how poorly they Sportsters sell no one is going to care where they come from. They need to be redesigned so that the motor looks good from both sides and have more than two models for sale.
@michaelwhite58345 ай бұрын
actually, Harley has had a few models made elsewhere before. In the great bike boom of the 70s, they needed a decent trail bike and they needed a smaller displacement street bike, so they offered rebranded imports from different countries. I remember them well. The Harley street bike was Italian and had a single, pushrod horizontal cylinder (I thinkk 350 and 500, but I'm just guessing) and was pretty gutless, but people bought it. The trail bike (I think it was Czech) was fantastic. Your local dealer can tell you the facts. I'm not sure why people are mad now. I have my doubts that mahy people will really sell their Harley and buy an Indian, like they claim. That would be weird.

Is this terrible? em no? maybe?, yes/ see heres the kicker, sure Harley can do that BUT you cannot charge 2x,3x times the price as other company's because "Made in America", this is a huge problem. -Cheers

@@mikein60fps30 They're pretty canny about how they phrase it, but I don't think any Triumphs are made in the UK any longer. They do some "assembly" there, basically what your dealer does when he uncrates a bike; and they claim to do development there, but I'm pretty skeptical. Most are built in Thailand, some in Brazil.

@@jaym8027 Doing a quick search, as far as Triumph is concerned there is still the old school Hinckley plant in England, the speed triple and tiger 1200 are "assembled" there. From what i always hear that the big companys get parts from many dif countries, so "put together" em dont know thats all a grey area if everyone gets parts from all over the world then yeah, technically no companies have a bike made in any country, yep its a facepalm 🤷♂ but on the flipside if a bunch of parts come from other places then there not made in Thailand either, ha ha what a mess. Best of luck, -Cheers

Why Thailand? Because they’re trying to circumvent the EU tariffs on US made Harley Davidson’s. Unfortunately the EU is going to impose those tariffs on Harley Davidson because they are an American company.

Bra-freakin-vo! 🎉 I really appreciate you voicing what we without a voice are thinking. Thank you for having the courage to put this video out there. I've noticed the big majority of Harley-Davidson youtubers have not said a word of what is happening, how riders feel. It sounds like pure horse manure that a company would invest millions in setting up a factory elsewhere for only a one year run. We're not buying it. Business 101 dictates "know your customers". All of this woke stuff is not inline with the majority of riders in the USA. I am a Latino male that is not inclined with this stuff and neither is the large majority of my brethren. HD needs to realize that most old riders are not computer savvy, not social media savvy and will protest with their wallet. The old timers have kept HD afloat. Apparel is a first world luxury, maintenance can be done by independent shops, aftermarket parts are available for 99% of what we need to keep our bikes running. The dealerships are getting the short end of the stick, they did not sign up for any of this but will brunt of the boycott. Thanks for your voice.

They're already assembling those models there for international sales anyway. I can see moving the production of a few models for US consumption till a factory upgrade and to gurantee they meet demand for other current models/upgrades to current models. At the end of the day, a production facility can only build so many bikes with their workforce. I'd rather see these bikes move production than just die off.

A flood starts with a trickle. You pay the price for a HD for what it stand for as well as the motorcycle. What ain’t made here should not be sold here. If your going to buy foreign there are excellent manufacturers to look at Honda, Enfield, Triumph, Indian, etc

I may just keep my metric now that Harley is no different. I really wanted a pre-owned Harley Sport Glide. Its successor, the Low Rider ST, may eventually come with a rainbow colored paint scheme on the gas tank.

Harley has gone broke several times, got an old AMF in the barn now, and haven’t been totally made in America since the late 70s. Started with electric components. Harley will half way survive but Indian will thrive. The kids want the sport bikes. Whole thing has gotten over priced. Bought my first pan head for $1200 chopped. My poor grandkids 💔

Harley is Genius, they don't want to make those slow selling low profit models. This will allow them to easily suspend production a few years down the road. I'm cool with Thailand. HD not so much.

Temporary just like taxes. Only moving to Thailand so the board members can get more money. Prices will not go down. Jochen zeist needs to step down and an American who rides the product needs to be the next ceo.

This isn’t a new thing. All Australian delivered bikes have been made in Thailand since 2022 / 2023, so I’d say that would be the same for the rest of the asian market as well. So I can’t see how this wouldn’t affect US union production bikes, it’s a massive amount of the total amounts produced. My Australian delivered 2021 Revival has Made in the USA, so I’d say this would have been one of the last US produced bikes for us. A lot of people don’t know this stuff, but being a diehard I’ll only have a USA produced bike. As always, love the content and let me know your thoughts, cheers Brendan.

I dont see anyone bitching about some Honda's, Beemers, Ktm's being built in Thailand. However I do agree that the Rev Max powered bikes that are currently being built in York, Pa for US market should remain there not farmed out to the plant in Thailand which was originally for models for the export market. Keep the US Rev Max production for US market right where its at. York, Pa. Made by Americans for Americans
