Depends on where ya live. Out in the mid-west with strait highways and 100 miles between towns is good for big horsepower. I ride on mossy twisty country roads in Ireland, my Dyna 96er twin cam with the six-speed, is all I need. I have stock hard panniers on mine, so, no need for a road king. 49 mm front end is perfect for me. I wouldn't want a bobber though. My FXRS is fun around here too.

But some people enjoy doing that sorta thing I have 96ci without any engine mod, it does have semi-loud slip-ons If I want more power I ride my VRod, if I want more down low power and curvability, I ride my XR But I find it fun seeing what people can do with an engine What I'd like to do is take 883, have that 1400+cc mod done to it, then take the trans and engine put on a 80ci Softail frame

Ya dude i bought a buell s2 with 52 miles on it like 2 years ago, the reconstruction process and the easy to work of the evo engine was pure enjoyment, and now i will do it the stage 4

I have an Evo, she's carbureted. I learned how to work on it and the musty gas/exhaust smell just reminds me of old school truck in the garage. I wouldn't change it. Don't care about more powerful engines. If fast is what I wanted, I'd get a sports bike. But fast compared to what? My 1200 is fast enough, rumbles down the road, and it is a pleasure regardless of how fast I'm pushing her. It's got heart.

I love my 05 883, it's got a few minor upgrades, but I would like a bigger bike, with more speed and power, for me, and a passenger in future. However, I plan to keep mine how it is and just buy a 2nd bike to fit my needs. It's a nice bike, sounds great, runs great, and looks great.

Only bad thing I'd the original engine cases were weak when you increased power and cubic inches, S&S cases resolve this. Seen many cases crack at the center on stock evo's. Great other than that!

As a person that is looking to buy a Harley and getting back into riding while not being rich enough to afford to send it to a dealer for everything. And being capable of doing most of my own mechanic work, I’m pretty much set on the bike being only a Evo motor due to the simplicity and ease of doing my own maintenance. I don’t need a 300 mph 1,000 hp bike so a mid to late 90’s model checks all the boxes for me.

@@Anthony071177 early dual cams are not expensive and not hard to work on. I would try to stay with 2002 or newer if fuel injection is a want of yours they are a better system then the earlier versions and are supported.

28 years ago my 80 cu. in. FXR was one of the fastest bikes around! Now it's not even the fastest bike in my garage. It has 120k miles on her and is still my favorite next to my 2012 Ultra and 2016 Heritage. There comes a point in your life when you realize that higher horsepower and top speed are not that important. Safe, reliable and comfort are the goal! So to the guys that pull up next to me and treat the traffic light like a christmas tree, go right ahead. I'll meet you at the next one!

I think it's stupid chasing horsepower on a Harley 😏. Imo if you want a bike with hp but a crotch rocket . I bought my Harley's for ride and comfort and easy to work on not monster hp. Plus that sweet sound you get from them makes you smile.

Enjoyable is the goal. My generally stock Evo springer looks and sounds badass. But it’s not quick or fast. My 2012 RK is very comfortable and I enjoy it immensely. If I want fast, I’ll get a Ducati…. N+1

My biggest complaint is that every other motorcycle company makes new motors, new bikes and has new tech. Everyone loves it. Harley does something new, everyone complains! Just ride and enjoy your motorcycle.

True. Whatever H-D does, there's the list of complaints. But the fact is they do a lot more right than wrong, or they wouldn't have existed as long as they have. Whenever I ask what MC manufacturer does more or better apples to apples than H-D for American riders, the answer is cricket chirps.

I have the 131 in my 2018 Heritage and upgraded clutch, air and pipes. I get 144Tq and 140Hp. i am 70 years old and i dont ride crazy lol. i only really get on it getting on the interstate via the ramp. It screams but after that i am so conservative. I want to live longer. Only reason i did the 131 was i had money i had to spend from retirement so bammm. With the power to weight ratio it moves out good but again i drive like and old man of which i am.

My 2012 V-Rod Muscle has a 1405 stroker package and puts out 178 HP with a top end of 162 MPH. At 80 years old find it's fast enough and very reliable!

Mine is a 107 M8. I had an RCX header put on, a tune, and RCX 4.5" mufflers. It sounded great. Then I had a Wood camshaft put in along with oil pump, some other internals, and a new tune. It sounds incredible. It doesn't sound like a twin cam, but it soiunds deep and like it's putting out massive power. I've been told it's like a V-8. Yes, it's not a Shovel Head or Evo. It really sounds great though. The extra half inch in the mufflers give it a very low tone that sounds mean. I can ride down the highway and it's not overpowering but lay into it and scare women, children and animals. The mistake I always made in the past was making my Harleys too loud. This time it's different. For one thing, having exaust that exits at the very back of the motorcycle behind you helps tremendously.

Every bike I've owned in the last 50 years I've tried to get more and more out of them. Had an EVO that was actually too fast for me. Very scary. I went back and intentionally slowed it down. Quite happy with my 103 stage 1. It is plenty.

I own a 103 tween cam Ultra Limited, after 20 years I finally finished stage 2. Tell you the truth I don’t know about horse power but I can tell you that with all the mods I made, my bike moves and it sounds great, I don’t think I need any more power than what my bike produces right now.

It never ceases to amaze me that so many Harley owners serm to be constantly chasing horsepower. I ride mostly Hondas and I rarely see modified engines. Maybe it is just that I am old and slow. My '87 Wing is perfectly rideable and I ride every day and often long distances.

im pleased with my 88tc, i had stroked to a 103. balanced S&S crank, timken bearings, S&S high flow oil pump, 543 geared cams, ported, 51mm throttle body, 10.5-1 pistons. S&S push rods, S.E billet cam plate, oil cooler. Valve springs, valve guides.

Have a stock, M8 114 Heritage. I have yet feel that it needs more power. It's done everything I've asked it to do in passing situations, keeping up with fast moving traffic, pull out of a corners with authority, etc. And... not one issue with it other than a shock bolt recall. I may be getting old, but I'm actively looking for a mint unmolested 1340 Evo. Have had 7 Evo's, I miss that old school sound more than ever. It's the engine that saved H-D when H-D was H-D.

M8 biggest sound issue is not the heads it’s the computer driven high idle rpm. Make it idle between 7 & 800 rpm’s and amazingly it sounds more traditional HD. MoCo makes the computer do this to protect us from ourselves and themselves from excessive warranty claims. Being it’s not an over head roller cams motor. And you’re right about being on your game handling 150 foot pounds at low rpm and followed by 150 HP.

I'm happy with my TC 103. My first Harley was a 1936 knuckle way back in the early 70s, and I owned a lot of engines in between. I like a good shovel for short cruising, but the TC 103 is my long haul go to bike, I like power, but the place for all the power I see is for the race tracks. I watch blockhead and he's doing stupid horsepower with those bikes. They can be death machines if not careful. Excellent video.

Absolutely love evo but will always be a panhead guy. The problem to me with the new Milwaukee 8s is kids having daddy buy it and then building it to be even more powerful and they don't have the experience and eventually get themselves killed. Been to way to many of those wrecks. And then the baggers having all that tech that takes your eyes off the road is another story. Keep it simple and just ride. Ride safe...

The frame and suspension in the Softails can handle the stock power just fine with 114 and 117 CI power. Getting absurd with modifications means upgrading everything. I can't attest anything with the M8 touring frames.

I have a stock 02 Fatboy TC and a 2021 Road glide CVO 117 with a cam upgrade, dynotuned, bigger intake manifold and throttle body and headers with Kromewerks slip ons. I love them both. The RG is torque monster and will break loose when hammering down on it. I love that! For a calm thumpier ride I go with the Fatboy. Some days I ride them both and the feeling is wonderful on both.

My M8 experience has been at 150 hp and 120 hp and on touring's. I didn't find my RG dangerous at 150 hp, however its a lot power for 900 lbs. If you're going to twist it, you have to be on your game for sure. Currently my favorite is the 114 or 117 with a 485 lift cam and exhaust. I find 120-130 hp is very controllable and fun for that weight.

I ride all year round rain or shine here in BC since 1966. Barring the ice and snow. Bought my RK new in 2006. Still 88 " but well tuned with the parts available then. The ride must be damn near dual sport up here and that engine will break that tire loose in short order if I am not careful. Most of these guys with big power at the first hint of a cloud in the sky are the first to get back to their garage and bike away and grab the cage keys. Left me wondering where all these tough riders are.

I’ve had an 883cc, 88ci and 114ci. I’m very very happy with the 114 in my SGS. Even with my wife on the back. Only way I’ll ever beef up the 114 is if I’m bored and just need something to do. I haven’t even done the Stage 1 yet.

I did a Stage 2+ (did an S&S manifold) on my 2019 Trike and get 103HP and 130 Torque. The thing is a beast, and you are absolutely right ... with Harley big power, you can definitely get it out of control. I've laid on the throttle and almost jerked my hands off the bars with the power. Wheelies ... no problem ... be in on the back two wheels or even the front wheel and one rear.

I put an S$S gear drive 509 cam chest kit in my 2002 FXDWG, along with a Mikuni 42mm slide valve carb Easy kit and a set of D&D 2 into 2 Long shot pipes (with baffles baffles installed)...😉🥰😘 👍👌💯 You will love it, 42mm Mikuni and a good set of pipes, can't beat it

Excellent vid. The 2025 Heritage Classic has 94 HP with an MSRP of $22,499.00. For me, I would rather buy a Heritage with 60 hp for $14,999.00 for all the reasons you cited above. We don't need 4 valves, VVT, Traction Control, Coffee makers and a B* machines on our bikes. This is ALL because CEO Zeitz wants to sell less bikes for more money. That twerp has got to go and bring that Woke Board with him!

I'm very glad your warming up to the m8. There have been several times I've pulled into a place and guys have taken a double take and said what did you do to that motor it sounds awesome. My 2017 ultra classic has a serious thump that certainly gets attention . With torture cones in the headpipe and wide open exhaust it has an awesome sound. In addition i have fp3 ,heavy breather , S.E. cam plate ,447 cam and S.E. oil pump. This combination of parts made a giant difference all the way around , performance, sound, everything. So yes I agree that the m8 does have a different sound but you can achieve the classic harley-davidson thump on the m8 pretty easily.👍👊

Power is kinda relative , a lighter bike and you can have less HP and still be fun. So save your $30,000 Street Glide for touring and get a older sportster for $3,000 and get a Hammer kit with some head work better shocks and brakes and have fun.

Right now my favorite engine is my 2000 Deuce twin-cam at stage 4. Kind of small by today's standard at 95ci, but it's got some thump. I have a speedometer, a tachometer, and a testometer that measures my testosterone levels. When I get up to 100mph my testometer drops to zero and I have to back off. Accelerating up to those high speeds is more fun than riding at those speeds. Torque baby, that's what I want and my 95ci stage 4 delivers just that. I also gamed the system. I have a Baker OD-6, which is really way too high for that bike so I put in a lower primary drive ratio kit, aka a poor man's stroker. It's Harley part 40331-02 and damned hard to find NOS. It reduced my top speed to something that's still way too scary to go, but it really made the bike jump.

As an owner of an M8 (and a Twin Cam and Evo before that) Harley engines haven't sounded like a Harley since the last Evo's. Especially at idle.

I'm 57. I was perfectly happy with my tuned TC88 2005 Road King. IDK the HP but its not a lot. On trips I struggled to keep pace with newer bikes on the open road. On open highway I'm basically running wide open all day long to keep pace at 85mph. But it was good enough for me until the aftermarket 6 speed Ultima Transmission grenaded on me on a trip. Don't judge me. I'm not the one who installed it. SO that bike is in pieces, now, because even an oem 5 speed is hard to come by. I went and got myself a 114 M8, 2021 FLHTK. I love it. This is my forever bike. It's got all I need as is, bone stock. I don't plan to do anything to it. It sounds just fine to my ears. I guess I'm an oldhead and I'm easy to please.

I have a Stage II (HP) 114 M8 , the power is brutal. I ride 1000km a week on a long commute and love it, but yesterday I stuffed up slapping down through the gears after a sudden stop and it nearly threw me 😬 Still love it 😍

After 50 years of riding motorcycles I now have an old Wide Glide anniversary edition with an 88 inch twin cam is plenty fast has lots of torque it never breaks and I love taking this on Long rides to the grocery store around 2 miles everyday haha!

I get the need for power. I had a 2003 Fat Boy and still have same yr Road Star 1600 that is bombproof. Sold the HD a few years back. '22 picked up a Kaw C14 makes 158HP in a sport touring package. By far the Kaw is just pure joy to ride. The Yami is a rolling recliner and 650 miles a day is easy. Been all over the east side of the USA from the Mississippi to Atlantic and states from UP to Key west. I'll never get rid of the '03 4 valve head Roadie because it is a metric gem. The Kaw C14 does all I care to do on the other end as far as power in a package that didn't break the bank. Lots of friends are die hard HD, some club others just riders and some spend more money chasing power than just picking up another bike that will give more thrill than any power level in a HD, that's just my opinion. If you gonna go fast you better be able to handle and stop. I've ridden a plethora of bikes since the 70s so not just blurbing bs.

I had a '16 C14 prior to my '23 Harley Heritage. Quite a contrast. I loved the C14, it's an excellent motorcycle and the power is insane yet it won't kill experienced riders who understand it. I just got to the point with age and arthritis that I couldn't stay comfortable on the C14 anymore. Not really its fault, it's still a sport bike at heart.

Worked at an indie shop last year, our master tech redid a 131 Stage IV for a dude, put a power vision on it to “make it right”. On the base tune, he said it’d pull the front wheel off the ground and hold it there to the rev limiter into fifth. This dude has records under his belt and he said that motor was insane.

You are so right how much horse power is needed for regular every day riding honestly 35 up in a two wheeler that weighs 350 lbs full of fuel the power to weight ratio will more than take you past the speed limits any where! Lots of torque spread through the low and midrange you will pull away from just about any vehicle and still get 70mpg !

Hey there! Haven't been seeing your videos in awhile, so I'm glad this one popped up. I have never ridden or built any of the MOCO stuff after the Twinkie, and I have personally only built and ridden the EVO on back. It IS insane at the HP/TQ numbers they are coming up with; back in the day, we figured 1HP/CI or a bit more was fantastic and "rideable". You're right, I have seen riders have the scoot...ummm... scoot out from under them coming out of a turn, or even from showing off. My current ride, EVO, is built fairly well and pumps out a little over 80/80, which I tell other owners is a pretty good, rideable, reliable goal for the EVO. And 80-90 HP/TQ is STILL a whole lotta fun! I guess it's like the newer "hot" cars of today; in the sixties, we thought 425 HP was a LOT. Now they are building cars, even trucks, that put out well over 600 HP! And I think to myself...why???

I built a TC that started out life as a 96 and ended up a 110. It was a fuel moto outlaw kit w/the built heads. I also balanced and welded the crank and put a timken upgrade on it. Fuel Moto stated it would put out 130 plus hp but it ended up around 120(and a boatload of torque). it is now much more fun but it was expensive. I think back and maybe should have just bought the 120r and dropped it in but I wanted to tear into it. Ultimately that decision cost me more money.

I have a 2006 twin cam... and a 1996 evo now... and they both could use a little more power. Years ago I had a hopped up panhead, Andrews cam, super B and lightened flywheels. I was totally haywire back then but had absolutely no desire for more power in that bike!!! The torque that thing had was crazy. Especially from around 40mph to 90mph. I was riding with a guy on a now vintage KZ1000, he was right behind me, single lane road, the on coming car went by, I gaver a shot of gas and passed the car we were following. When we got to the pizza joint the guy got off his bike all dazed and confused. He was literally stunned. He said I left him so fast he thought he stalled!!! He never asked to ride with me again... Which was perfect because far prefer to ride alone. : ) If we are honest most of the power game is for braggin rights. Which if you can afford it then great not to mention a lot of fun going to or from starbucks. Though here is Canada if you get caught using that extra power the feds steal your bike..... : (

I have 2 Harley's. My 2017 TriGlide, M8 is used for long trips and it's my daily commuter. Changed out the exhaust from air cleaner to tail pipe and replaced the cam when the oil pump finally failed. Read a lot of reviews of different cams and selected a Fueling 405 cam. It been a great cam for commuting in a big city (30mpg) and still rumbles down the highway, 2 up with gear (37mpg). WOT is a pleasant 95mph (2 up with gear). So I now have more torque down low and it can drag the extra weight of the TriGlide at acceleration speeds that make it real fun. My other Harley is a 2012 VROD Muscle. Lots of torque thru the whole throttle range and it's a fun ride. I would consider my VROD the maximum horsepower and torque I would ever need on a Harley. My TriGlide is great for what it is, a commuter and cruiser. .

Personally my 110 tire shredder still puts a smile on my face (installed in 2017) dynoed at 106hp/122tq but i'd say 120hp is as far as I'd want to go on a Harley

Got a 468 Zippers cam kit on my 2018 M8 and its all you want. I enjoy the ride and this cam has enough power to tickle your fancy when you throttle back.

You're correct 100% Gixxer. How much is too much. I currently run a stg 1 tuned 96 and find it just right for playing with, and having fun with at a low cost. I really like the M8's and will have one as my next bike someday. But as far as enough performance goes, my tuned 96 is enough. When staged 117's can't keep up, i then realize it's a fun enough bike for me. Love'm all ! Thanks for another great video !!

Bumped my 2012 roadglide to a 107, beefed up heads, a more aggressive cam, and a 2:1 exhaust with a power vision tuner, oh yeah, and an upgraded pressure plate on the clutch, 117hp-126ft lbs torque, probably 35k miles on this build without any issues..great throttle response right from bottom..mainly ride 2up, not out there to race anyone, but I feel better having a tad bit more power on hand if I need it..

Getting 120hp on the dyno out of my M8, It's still a mild and easy to ride engine in regards to power delivery. The weak component are the brakes and suspension so it still has to be ridden with those limitations in mind.

I have the 114 with stage 2 performance level and feel very good about it. I like getting more power out of the stock engine but I ride in different settings, sometimes highway and sometimes a country road to town. A 3 mile trip to town does not need a lot of horsepower and noise. On the other hand I like to pass on the highway using the hand throttle without needing to downshift. So I like a balance, steady and true. Nothing extreme. As a side note, I never get compliments on my Harley out on the road, just when I am parked. Ha

Ive got one twin c, and 3 evos.. the tc is a 95".. fun to ride, bout 78hp.. the evos, are just fun. All frame up customs.. mild cams, good valve springs, carbed, good exhaust.. they run very well, and dont break the bank

My 2011 Dyna Wide Glide with the 96 CI motor & 6 speed just has an exhaust/remap and air intake and has plenty of power and acceleration for me…It’s all about the torque 👊

M8 107", New Fueling cam chest with Star 30/30, Bassani 2 into 1 exhaust, Big Sucker intake and Dyno tuned by a Race team owner with HD software licensing. 72 HP stock to 104.4 HP, 113 T. Fun as shit to ride. Lost 3 MPG in town but gained 2 MPG Hwy. She got the chop T chop too. All in $3500 ish including parts/labor/tuning.

I have been riding for over 50 years and have a garage full of scoots both Crotch Rockets and Harleys. The ZX14R and CVO Road Glide ST both monsters in their own right. Most will bad mouth the rider aids but I will not. Once you learn to balance the aids and the HP the combination really cant be beat. I can back in the ST and steer with the back wheel on lowest setting aid and it really makes me "look" like I know what I'm doing. These type scooters are easy to get behind the faster you go and one must remain mindful of what they are doing and that does kinda take the fun out of it sometimes. We all have a beer and make hp mistakes and the aid is nice to have riding with you. Old or Bold, few Old and Bold.
