Got on waiting list at my dealer and they will pick it up and bring it back. They also said no bikes they know of out of their dealership had this happen. UPDATE: dealer picked up Friday 12 noon. Called next day Saturday and bike done 10:30am. I'm happy. They will also deliver.

I put a Muller Easy Pull Hydro Clutch Slave Cylinder on my 16' Street Glide after many frustrating issues. It's a completely different bike now. Bigger diameter slave cylinder piston positions the clutch engagement right in the middle of the lever. No more clutch all the way at the end on the stroke. Definitely worth every penny spent. HUGE improvement!

How much did that cost and labor total please I have a cvo 2016 and I'm slipping gears while trying to accelerate.. I don't know what it could be. But think the clutch basket teeth are busted thanks.

Hah! I was on a road trip out to North Carolina from Kansas City when I found out about the recall. went to the local HD dealership and they told me the parts don't get shipped until November 5th. So....we still rode home to KC, no issues. It seems silly to release a recall and the dealerships NOT having the ability to fix it at that time. Maybe we were lucky, but we had no issues. Will wait til my local dealership gets the parts then bring my bike in for the fix. Thank you John for all the informative videos, keep it up!

I appreciate your position sir, but think about it. This was a voluntary recall (I checked the HD website). If they had announced the recall the day after I left North Carolina, what is the difference? Also, all the folks affected by this recall, are they going to trailer their bikes to their local dealership? Most likely not. Yes, I agree about announcing the recall right away, but what was I to do, keep my bike 1200 miles away in North Carolina, fly back home (or rent a car), wait 2 weeks, then go back to NC to get my bike? I doubt HD would have paid for that. Maybe it was a gamble to ride it back to KC, but if that recall was really dangerous enough, HD would have not have announced a "voluntary" recall, they would have (or perhaps should have) made it more of an urgent recall.

My 2014 limited has had 6 recalls 3 for the clutch alone plus the radiator, saddle bags and oh yeah front brake. Some day they might get it right.

Guess it is a good thing my 18 Ultra Limited hasn't crapped the clutch yet. Since "Winter is coming" and riding days here in Georgia drop about 15% I guess it will be shop time for the bike. Hope the fix is good and no more clutch issues. Thanks for the info John, I wanted to ride to Texas with you guys but that pesky thing called work got in the way, but I do like paying the bills so I can go riding all year. Keep up the good work and look for me to bring in the Ultra for some tuning next spring/summer.

John, I love the videos. This is what we all need and actually want. No frills, normal guy videos. Anyways, I just purchased a 2017 FLTRX 107 M8 from a dealer. I happened across the recall by putting the VIN into the HD site to check. It came back as having a recall. How do I find out if the previous owner or dealer I purchased it from had the recall done or if the recall is actually stating that this specific bike to be corrected? Also, I found threads of sumping. They say anything over 10-2017 is good. How do I find out when the bike was built? A few questions, I know, but I have no idea who else to ask. I changed my stator and now my push rod is sticking out too far and I can’t get my clutch release plate back on. Do you know what would cause that. 2015 electraglide.

It just basically pushes or pulls on the lever. Turning the Rod he showed. That Rod is what Compresses or releases the clutch discs

Good info John thanks. I was trying to research that part. How long does it take to replace the part on bike? Also why do you think HD has issues like this. You rarely hear about other bike companies with so many recalls. This is a bummer since I just pulled the trigger on my 17 RG last year. Keep the vids coming they are most helpful.

John or anyone that may have an answer, 2014 FLHXS 18k miles, randomly started to get a humming/slight vibration only at low (approaching a stop/parking lot turn) speed while holding in clutch lever. Eventually it started more , I changed the clutch fluid and there was quite a bit of air in the system, after the flush and fluid refill (without introducing any air) The humming/Vibration was gone for a several months. As of tonight it has returned, under same conditions. Low, almost stop speed with clutch pulled in. It doesnt do it all the time its very random. Shifting at normal speed up or down is fine, Is it possible air could be getting in thru the reservoir? Any help would be great.

The package is hard to keep the air out (coffee package), just like the clutch problem. Air where you don’t want it makes things unnecessarily funky.

Sounds like this component is not made by HD? I'm only saying that because you said "it's not their fault", at the end. There's a number of manufacturers that put hydraulic clutches on their bikes, maybe HD can go with one of their parts suppliers.

john can i get you opinion i have a 2019 flhxs i want to put a cam in it and wanted to update the headers and my dealer telling me not to update the headers and keep the stock because i will lose hp and torque and the milwaukee eight engines lose hp and torque with after market headers do you know is this true? or not? if so i like to install a zipper red shift 468 cam in my 114 is there any head pipe that would work for that setup without losing anything they also told me they wont dyno bikes this time of the year because of the colder weather sounds weird to me

I have a video coming out soon about exhaust, and I don’t tune bikes below 40 degrees. No heat in the dyno room! Add fans and it’s hard to even work. Considering 99% of riders won’t be riding the bike anyway, I wait until i can feel my fingers to use the computer. For the most part, though, it sounds like your dealer is right on.

My RK is a 03/2018. Before the recall I brought mine in for heavy clutch feel. So much effort to squeeze the clutch lever. Brake rotors are warped too. Harley wouldnt fix it. They said clutch was normal and rotors arent warped enough to warrant replacement. Pure disappointment.

sam cabasa if they were 3/4 foreign parts they would say “assembled in the USA” not “made in the USA”, all the electronics are probably foreign made but it’s pretty rare that I take something off my 17 road glide and see it’s made over seas. I work on my own bike and it’s heavily modified and I can’t think of anything I’ve changed that said it was made in China on it. I’m sure some of the parts are but I don’t think it’s nearly as much as idiots on the internet claim.

So, Probably not the same issue, because I have a 2014 Eletra Glide limited. A couple of years ago. I lost clutch actuation in stop and go traffic in Atlanta in the summer heat. I was able to push the bike to the side , wait 15 minutes and my clutch came back. I rode another 15 minutes or so until it did it again. I had to do that 4 times to get out of Atlanta ,, then no problem. I assumed the clutch fluid overheated and wouldn't actuate the clutch. Then when it cooled , it was fine. I talked to the service department in Montgomery about it. They basically said as long as I had stock pipes with the Cat , that in Atlanta in stop and go traffic in the heat of the day , during the summer, that nothing could be done. Aftermarket pipes would be the only fix, and I was reassured that would not happen while riding down the road because it would not get hot enough to do that if I was riding down the road. So I didn't like the answer but haven't done anything about it. And haven't had another problem until about a week ago , I was on a long ride for the Girls Ranch , and I lost my clutch about halfway through the ride . I finished the ride shifting without a clutch . Towards the end of the ride i could smell something burning or getting hot. After I sopped , I kept checking to see if I had any clutch lever back. I was getting nothing. So I figured I had broke something. Well 3 hours after I stopped . my clutch came back and I was able to ride it 30 minutes home. There was still a burnt smell though. Planning on getting it to Harley next week. What does this sound like to you or anyone that may read this. Sorry for the long post.

Having issues with a 16 Road Glide after a routine bar swap. Smh. Little shops get stuck with this kind of problem and it bleeds the profit right out of a simple job and worse yet can end up costing the shop money because typical customers don’t understand who’s responsibility an issue like this is. Smfh. The recall for the 16 doesn’t address the slave cylinder either, just a distilled water and isopropyl alcohol wash for the master cylinder. That was the beginning of these issues being identified and a quick fix to satisfy the NTSB to show HD was at least doing something about it. Such a bunch of crap. ? I realize that this is a 2018 Video. However Recall # 0173, when I went in to have this done it took less than 10 minutes... parts were listed but I was told a litmus test on the fluids was done>?With that being said today 9/13/2022 my clutch is not working.No draw. So where do I start? your video gives me adequate information for replacement. Is this something that I could take on myself? (With help ). 4 year old video but might address my issue. The gf & I both have 2014 Street Glide Specials. Both have had the recall BUT...... When her's sits for about a week the clutch master loses "prime". Pull the lever in 5 or 6 times and it gets firm lever pressure again. It's been bled/fluid changed 4 times this year and still the same issue. I'm thinking of pulling my clutch master off and swapping it to her bike to see if that's the issue but it seems more like possibly the introduction of air as you state thru the secondary clutch actuator. I don't see any leaking fluid and the fluid level doesn't drop. Any thoughts ?

I never thought Harley Davidson did enough research, testing and development on their bikes. And not enough scrutiny testing their venders parts, which can make Harley-Davidson look bad! That being said, the reality is all manufactures of various brands have their share of recalls as well. It’s not just a Harley-Davidson thing! I just wish they would do more extensive testing before putting their bikes on the open market.. better and more cost effective for the motor company and the customer. Sometimes you have to slow down to speed up! As they say... it takes a life time to build the reputation of your company, and a day to lose it!

JefferyT I recently threw a leg over a 2019 Chieftain dark Horse on my first visit to my local Indian Dealer. I was blown away how well balanced it was. The handling is incredible and begs you lean into a curve. The exhaust had a deep mellow throaty sound. Three riding modes, standard, touring and Sport. LED lighting standard, fox mono shock with six inch travel( easy on My bad back) power adjustable windshield , remote locking bags, advanced and easy to use info system with 100 watt stereo system... the list goes on and on. Also the Salesman told me the power stroke motor only has a total of eight gaskets opposed to Harley-Davidson M8 36 approximate motor gaskets. Quality and smart engineering is evident throughout the Indian for sure! Also, the dealership experience was very personalized and took time to explain all the engineering and technical features. I made up my mind very quickly! It was a no brainer.

1930 VL & the 1936 EL was untested crap , 38 UL rear brakes failed , the Italian Harleys after WW2 were crap , All of the 1979 Harleys were crap , 1984-1991 EVO 1340ci motors - the oil runs in the wrong direction , 1999 Twin Cams had problems. The V-Rod 2002 was the most heavily tested motorcycle in History . They were almost perfect in 2003 , but nobody wanted a metric Harley. Indian is the way to go.

I bought a 2019 Road King brand new, the very next day I could feel the clutch lever moving back and forth, they it was fine but on my 25+ years riding off course there was a problem. At the 1k oil change not a surprise lot of metal. I decided after 4K miles trip to trade it in for a RGlide 2019. Hope it does not come with an issue. Let you know. First week of 2019 is gone by and I am still waiting for this recall to be done. I'm on a list that is nearly 800 bikes and the dealer says they are only getting 3-6 kits a week. Sooooo how long does Harley expect this to take to be completed??? I asked about the danger of riding and the answer was that if the clutch goes away it is on me. I have been warned. WTF??? I Asked about me providing the high quality "AIM Product" slave cylinder and letting them install it under the recall..? Oh no cant't do that. Frustrating for sure.

Interesting footage- hope you enjoyed your coffee? Just got my road king 107 recall done today. Was advised that some vapour was leaking into assembly and my bike naturally needed the work done. So yes - I would like to see what the work involves. I had clutch fluid added and system bled - bike sweet as expected- Question- what was meant I wonder by vapour- clutch fluid?

Recalls are pretty normal across the motorcycle and automotive industry. HD isn't leading this sort of thing by any means. They suck, always. Glad HD is moving on this at times some vehicle manufacturers don't move on a safety issue until lawsuits happen.

How Remedy Component Differs from Recalled Component : The secondary actuator piston assembly in the recall kit (P/N 91500093) has a lip seal with a different material. Additionally, the surface finish of the piston assembly has been changed. Identify How/When Recall Condition was Corrected in Production : The updated secondary actuator piston seal assembly was introduced at the start of model year 2019 production.

Just got off the phone with my closest dealer. Supposedly they are only getting 5 of the parts in a week. They aren't doing a waiting list either, it's just whenever you happen to call. Way to make it even more frustrating.

Yeah I know my 16 RG had recall they said we got keep over to see if it having a problem. I'm like just go ahead and put the part in it . No we have to wait and let it sit for 24 hours 1st.

John thanks for the update. I guess i will be taking my 2018 CVO Road Glide in. On a side note do you know anything about the speed limiter that is on all the Milwaukee 8 engines? I found out that my 2018 CVO Road Glide will not go past 110 MPH. I spoke to my local HD dealer and they confirmed it. I talked to a few other CVO owners and we are looking into a class action suit . All the M8’s have a governor on them. I’ve never hit it on the road, but the dyno wasn’t much fun...the motor cops definitely don’t like it!

How important is it to have this performed right away? I just bought my 2018 ultra limited it only has 563 miles. It’s getting pretty cold here in Chicagoland and I was wondering if I should wait until spring?
