Glad you have it figured out. At least I hope.

That is exactly what happens when the fluid gets too much water in it. It was obviously very dirty. Same thing happens when the brake fluid gets full of water, no brakes because the fluid starts to boil. Glad that was your problem, the easiest to fix!!

Need some insight if you can help. Back story is I bought a 19 Limited back in April 2023 had 5k miles and now it's at 18k miles and ran flawlessly I went in for a full service e.g. 3 hole oil change, Brake pads and a Hydraulic flush, clutch, front & rear brake. The reason for the flush was just preventive care b/c I didn't think the previous owner had the flush done. After getting my bike back after service the bike ran great all week even on that weekend ride. But the following work week when I was heading to work I felt the clutch feel funny for a moment it felt that the clutch was sort of still in the friction zone on full release of the lever and then it kicked in and jolted. It did it in the morning and much more on the way home. So I took it to my local HD on the next day. I called them to check status and was told they needed to re-build the master cylinder. When I went down the next day to pick the bike up the Tech says to me Hydraulic clutch are tricky to work on and that after a test ride he says to me "it almost feels normal but the engagement on full out is a little funny". I was like "what are you talking about, why isn't it like new since you ended up re-building the master cylinder. I really believe there was an error during the flush and messed up my master cylinder somehow. They allowed me to take it for a test ride sure enough the improvement was nowhere close to when I bought the bike. I'm really pissed. What do you think may have happened? TIA.

Loved the video and information. I found another video saying they were on long ride to sturgis and when it would get hot they would have problems shifting and would have to pump up the clutch to get it to work, but next morning when cooler it was fine and repeated next day. So they noticed how dirty the clutch fluid was and someone mentioned if it has water in it, then when it gets hot it will not allow the clutch to operator properly when water in it gets hot. So he flushed out the dot4 clutch fluid and then next 6 months no further issues. I have a question for you. I have a 2016 harley ultra with a hydraulic clutch and it had the recall done back a few years ago about the leaking secondary actuator. Long story somewhat short, I went to harley dealership when I was out of town and they gave me a new secondary actuator but I could not get the clutch cable to connect solid to the new actuator, I just found out today when I took old and new actuator to local harley dealership that the other harley gave me the wrong actuator. So now have to wait on new one to arrive since out of stock around my area. My additional research shows on my 2016 harley ultra there is a very small concave copper washer that needs to be installed when the hydraulic clutch cable line is attached (part # 12300027). I heard you say you blew out your slave cylinder and I’m just curious if you had to when you replaced your hydraulic line to the secondary actuator did you have any tips on how you replaced it. Maybe you did not have to deal with this small concave crush copper washer but the wrong actuator they gave me inside the threaded line is totally different on the one they gave me which guys at local harley said the one they gave me is for like a 2020 model. I have been trying to find tips or video of someone replacing the hydraulic cable on harley with similar actuator which requires a very small concave copper crush wash which goes into the threaded side of the actuator and then the hydraulic clutch line threads into it and somehow that makes a seal. Just thought I would ask since not find any videos on replacing a similar hydraulic cable to the secondary actuator. Thanks again for any input or suggestions. Loved the video. Thanks.

I am concerned about the fluid being low and no leaks. But outside that old fluid in a bottle still absorbs moisture, and is not as effective as new fluid. I was a little concerned when I saw the fluid yellow. I am very used to DOT3/4 being clear. HD may color it because the DOT 5 from HD is purple. This may be to help keep it getting mixed up but I cant say for sure. Yes HD will use DOT 3/4 and DOT 5, maybe not on the same bike but there are cross over years and brake components. Clutch will not see the heat like brakes but saturated fluid still is not good for the system. I got a lot of info but You tube comments ain't always the place.

I have never reverse bled the clutch. Good information. I wonder if that would work with the Harley ABS brakes. I know that to bleed them you need to hook up to the Harley shop computer.

Nope. I bleed them all the time this way, works perfectly just don’t start the bike before you know all air bubbles are pushed through

That was some dirty fluid. Watching other video and the fluid looks amber when tripping the moisture tool. Good video and like the reverse flush procedure.

Could be synthetic fluid if that’s what you used. I am finding mine isn’t liking it. It’s glazing the clutch I believe

I haven't worked on one of these hydraulic ones yet. I like the idea of them because on race cars, boats, and old mechanical injection systems a hydraulic throttle was the trick because a cable or mechanical didn't hold up, not enough room, or wasn't safe. Moon, Enderle, Kinsler, and Marbet made a great hydraulic linkage that you either loved or fought it bleeding it. Another thing was heat at times was an issue so you had to find a fluid that worked. I remember some guys used sewing machine oil, marvel mystery oil, jack oil, or the expensive Brembo fluid was really popular. I liked your bleeding video I use a syringe or hand bleeder vacuum pump. Im in the rain a lot in Oregon and only thing brake fluid I have done was change the factory fluid to another brand of fluid one time on each bike haven't had any problems with dirt or moisture contamination. Is there a particular brand of fluid that you prefer? I would be curious to know. Thank you Yogi 👍

I am not brand specific. I use amsoil for a lot of stuff. I used Harley on this one because the bottle was already in the shop and was opened up recently so I know it was still fresh

@@alejandroalvarez7187 check first when you press the brake that you have power at the bulb area. If not work your way forward to the brake lever till you find the issue.
