Excellent video! NonHarley (but Harley trained and certified) mechanic that I use told me the non-engaging cruise was either a switch or cruise module issue, both of which were Dealership items. I put a zip tie between the contacts of the roll-off switch and cruise is working again. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

You are more than welcome and thank you for the comment Patrick, I am so glad it worked out well for you, it did for me too, and definitely a lot cheaper than changing the throttle cable. Stay tuned on the channel, there are more tips on the way :) Have a great day and drive safely, take care brgds Rene

Thanks for posting the Video. My cruise on my 2002 Road King recently stopped working and I believe the roll off switch is the culprit. I look forward to giving this a try Thank You for your time

Hi Ethan, you are probably right, the roll off switch can be the culprit. It creates a nuisance drive when you try to connect the cruise control. It will disconnect or not engage at all, and by the same token it creates an on/off drive which in turn is annoying not only to you as a driver but certainly also for the passenger on rear seat. Make sure to check the fuse as well, it controls the brake light and cruise control - if you disconnect the wires to the switch, and your cruise control works normal except for the roll off of course, then it is your switch that is faulty. Inside the switch there is a dielectric that keeps it from shorting out, when this is worn due to either use or environment it will fail. To fix this the little zip tie will help, make sure it has the right width and you will have your cruise control working again - mine now for months :) I hope that explains it a little, and I hope you will enjoy you bike and cruise ctrl very soon again. let me know how it went :) best regards Rene

Do you just have the multimeter set for the continuity setting when if you touch pos to neg it beeps? Also, also the plugs that plug into that doesn’t matter which one plugs to which wire? My plugs unplugged and I don’t know if I have them flipped or if it matters and for some reason, my cruise control does not engage.

Yes that is correct - what you are looking for is basically the switch. It is either shorted or it will be open. When the two surfaces reach each other it makes contact and disconnects the cruise control. So which ever side you measure on one should(aft-side) be direct ground the other side open circuit. When they short out/make contact it will disconnect. The cruise control is very sensitive so a small and quick contact will make it disconnect. The zip tie very thin one keeps them apart and ensures no contact unless I force the handlebar to full close. That will bring the connection together and make contact, disconnect the cruise control. Hope that helps, drive safely, best regards Rene

The problem of the leads touching can be caused by an idle cable that was adjusted too tightly. See video 'How to Properly Test & Adjust a Throttle Cable with Cruise Control on a Harley Davidson'.

Thanks for commenting and watching, yes I agree and know that’s the problem, for numerous of the cases. However this cable and adjustment is totally fine except for the wear and tear of the mechanical di-electricum that keeps the separated. It’s simply not holding the contractors apart anymore and the choice is spending a lot of time and money fixing it. My zip tie have now been sitting there for more than 2 years and it works absolutely perfect 👍 so it stays. 😃 Drive safely Best regards Rene

The cable just needs adjusted a little bit usually. There isn’t enough slack. Not by much either.

Thank you for watching and commenting. Yes it isn’t much, however I did adjust the cable and it would work approximately 4-6 mths. And after a while, it get annoying to adjust it all the time - so this fix was the solution. It’s now been 3 years, with this and it still runs perfectly and cut off the auto throttle easily- so for that simple reason I will let it drive like that. Hope someone out there will have the benefit of this little trick. Drive safely, best regards Rene
