I worked at a Chrysler dealership in the late 80s. We had a little old lady that would bring in her mammoth 1950s Chrysler Imperial. That car stayed inside a week if it took that long for us to track down parts for it. It's called customer service. I was shocked when I saw a dealer turn away a late Shovelhead rider in the 90s who had never let anyone beside the dealership service the bike since new. The bike was only 10yrs old at the time.

This is what kills me. Our local HD shop, American HD in MA, are still a small, locally owned shop. They defied the corporate buy out of almost ALL the dealerships in New England. The problem is, they are now dead last for bikes, parts, etc. IF the dealership werent still locally run, I would have no issues turning my back. But, the owner of the shop is a friend. The employees are family and friends. The owner and my dad used to race bikes in the 70s together. They dont turn away older bikes. When I bought my EGS in 2019, they didnt have that model, and had no expectations of getting one anytime soon, so they sent me to another dealer, just so I could get the bike I wanted. When Phillie, the owner, passes, his daughter will take over the business. Until she closes shop, or sells out fully to corporate, I will still be a loyal customer to them. They are not following the corporate script. In fact, they are such a small dealership, they cannot really conform to the floor designs that corporate wants. He is the last of the old school dealers in the area. He is a man of his word, and all deals are closed with a handshake. I am loyal to THEM, not to the MoCo. And, when American shuts their doors for a final time-at that point, I will definitely go to an indie dealer.

What i do care about is the complete "take a number" additude that dealers have had since early 2000 and the subpar proformance the bikes are released under the guise of make it your own through the catalog. This is only fair. How many people have worked for a company that reminded their employees that termination is possible if the employee does something on their own time that could in anyway be deemed hurtful to the employer's brand? Well, when a company embarrasses their customers it only stands that the company should face termination as well. Consumers need to understand they have the power and show discipline in wielding it. It is not a hardship to put off buying a new Harley or some Harley tank tops if the company embraces values completely contrary to the individual customer.

@@snakebite6511 they tried bringing back a brand. Didn't have the money or tooling to build their own engine. When first started their production. Their first engine the Power Plus was not great. But they were trying. And when Polaris bought the name. They did have the money to build great bikes. I do own a Harley to. I like my Harley because I can just get on it and go almost anywhere. My Indian is just mainly used for easy slow country back roads.

Just brought my 2012 HD Heritage Classic to Gator Harley Davidson in Leesburg Florida. They will work on any year HD, other than the cost of the service, they did give me 10% on parts for being a First Responder. I'm a big believer of taking my stuff back to the Dealer for service.

That's awesome! My local dealer gave us 10% off too, it was really nice and they would work on older bikes. Unfortunately they close when the owner passes, just too much going on with Harley corporate. Stay safe out there brother!!

Just bought my first "new-to-me" 2019 Ultra Limited at a smoking hot deal I just couldn't pass up! The independent shop I bought it from treated me like I was a long-time customer from the moment I walked through the door. 2.5 hours later, the owner of the shop loaded the bike onto my trailer himself. The entire experience and transaction couldn't have gone smoother or had been more pleasant. Not only will I be a repeat customer, but I will continue to support his business and other shops like his own. I am a DIY type of man that has every intention to learn how to work on my own bike. If something breaks that is above my paygrade, I will give the job to the folks at local bike shops. I have been following the current Harley Davidson corporate BS for a while now. I will not, nor will I ever give my hard earned cash to corporate H-D until they change their ways and go back to being a company that focuses on their loyal customers. Until then...too-dah-looo, H-D!

I believe Harley has many years worth of new bikes in storage. It seems like production has been running way beyond sales for years .. Harley, probably could shut down and sell their stored inventory for years. There is something very dark about this , I have my suspicions, but can't point to any thing definite.

I paid cash for my 2016 Heritage Softail last month. Has only 9500 miles on it, like new, for 11k bucks. So it’s PAID FOR and not going anywhere! MY bike has nothing to do with what the corporation does . They didn’t make a dime on me and I use a private shop for any help I need. So I’m gonna ride the hell out of it. I DGAF what anyone thinks about it. I’ve always wanted a teal and white heritage softail…looks like an old 1950s panhead….and not I got one. So I’m going to enjoy it. It’s not my bikes fault what the company does. BUT…I wouldn’t buy a new one ( and wouldn’t anyway bec prices are insane on new ones. 26k for a new heritage now) and I don’t spend a dime at the dealer. But I fully support my local shop

I got tired years ago of the local Harley dealership only being willing to put Harley parts on my bike, and at least 2 times the cost of better parts. And, they spent far more time telling me what they wouldn't/couldn't do to modify my bike than looking for solutions. So, I switched to small shops that were more open-minded and adaptable, and would do what I wanted done. The problem is, even the small shops around here have their own operations issues also. So, now my bike is torn apart in my garage while a friend helps me to figure out how to replace drive pulleys, belt, clutch, wiring harnesses, etc, etc. Very Frustrating, but I am not giving up on my 2005 Fatboy with full Stage 4 upgrades!

Don’t ditch your Harley’s. Use aftermarket quality parts and small performance shops that want the work. I slightly recall this happening to them in the 80’s as well. I just sold my 2015 Mt Rushmore limited low because it needed a computer program to change a water pump. Bought a 2007 low low mileage ultra classic and bought quality aftermarket parts and wrench on it myself.

Couldn’t care less if I was the only one riding harleys. It’s what I want to ride and it’s what I’m gonna ride. I was at sturgis for a bit and ya the Harley pavilion was pretty empty.I’ve started stopping 100miles short of sturgis, stay overnight wherever, get up and gone with the sun then pull into town and find a parking spot. I walk around checking everything out until my dislove of crowds outweighs my love of bikes, then pick a direction and ride at least 100 miles clear to spend the night somewhere else and continue on my holiday. I actually just pulled into my garage from such a trip a few hours before watching this.

So bought my 14 Streetglide new from the Stealership. My 05 Deuce from the independent down the road . I learnt to service both myself . I did have the return cable on the Deuce break recently. I went to my independent. He had two new cables IN STOCK but they were a little too long 🤔BUT he had a plastic crate with cables in it from take offs from Wrecked bikes and they fit !!!! Nothing wrong with them . He sold me two cables for the price of one of the new longer cables plus did me half labor to fit them . NOW imagine the Stealership, get there and I bet money they wouldn't of had the cables ( we'll have to order them ) then you would have to book an appointment no doubt ( I know) weeks in advance. Then the actual cost of said two cables AND the labor would have been through the roof . SO in conclusion I got the bike back on the road THAT DAY at an unbeatable price ( compared to Harley) instead of waiting WEEKS . And knowing my Stealership they would of probably got the wrong parts . Believe me been there done that.THE INDEPENDENTS are the REAL DEAL 🤙in my opinion. These people are 9 times out of 10 RIDERS! And are what's left of any Harley Davidson we would consider family. They also have a WAY higher hands on knowledge especially on the beautiful older stuff before the Kraut became CEO with all his Kamala Harris woke bullshit . I consider my age bikes to still be Harley Davidsons because they were made before the fairies took over , the Mo Co.Plus all they have now is techs . Take a part off put a part on . My indi Jeff is PROUD to be a HD mechanic. He rides a Road Glide. 🤙😎🇬🇧🇺🇸

Last October I came very close to buying a 120th anniversary heritage. I liked everything about the bike until I rode it. Aside from having literally twice the power of my 1996 FLSTN Heritage Special, call me crazy but I just didn't like the way the bike rode. Too smooth for me. I'm only 56 but I must be a dinosaur. I actually like the vibration and non disconnected feel of my Special. All this woke crap just makes me more happy I didn't buy a new Harley-Davidson. Like other companies they are just going to have to learn the hard way that you don't piss off the customers that support you!

I've said it a million times about HD and other brands. The Boards run things and the CEO and other execs live and die by the share price. No one cares what you think so don't trash your bike. Gixx is correct... wanna hurt HD? Then don't buy anything from the dealers unless it truly is a local family run place which are few and far between. The dealer in my city is an auto group that owns a Ford, Hyundai and Subaru dealership. Far from family run... my two HD's get worked on by one local shop and my Indian by another. I actually paid one of the shops double for some work they did on my wifes Sportster because it was too cheap in my opinion. Made her go back with an extra $200 cash cuz I appreciate the work and time they put in. I support my local bike shops. If new bike and accessories sales go down enough, share price goes down, CEO and execs get fired, Board members get replaced and maybe an activist investor comes in and puts things right. Or... price goes down and the Brand gets scooped up by another group like happens with cars and rinse and repeat.
