I think 95 to 103 cubic inches is plenty of displacement! If you want more power focus on other things, cams, heads, pistons, etc. rather than in just upping displacement. I remember when the 96 inch motor first came out, and people were thinking it would be a substantial power increase over the 88, which ended up not being the case. About a 5 hp increase, and 8 to 10 ft lbs of torque. The 96 inch twin cam has some good potential it just needs woke up, get the right cam in, get it breathing good, and a good tune it will make a world of difference. If you make the right upgrades, and take good care of them, the Twin Cams are actually some good motors.
@ckthompson7928 Жыл бұрын
I'm an 88" guy if I get another bike I would absolutely get a 96" the 103 ho is a beast, but I'm an odd guy, I like small displacement and large power . I know most times you sacrifice reliability for performance, but I've found when it comes to the Harley V-Twin as long as you stay in the 1.25 HP per cubic inch you don't see a lot of reliability issues. Provided you do the math and get a good set up of, heads , cams, and tuning. The cams and heads are the most important part of the build for power. No replacement for displacement but damn if it ain't fun to try to do 😂

The only Twin Cam I would even consider would be a fairly low mile '02 and earlier carbureted non balanced 88 with the Timken bearing (almost certainly a Dyna) I don't ride hard, I don't ride fast, I just like to cruise, feel those wonderful vibrations and listen to that beautiful exhaust note. I wouldn't make any modifications to it other than an exhaust system if it didn't already have one I liked, tune the carburetor for the exhaust if necessary, and add some more chrome. Aside from their feel and sound, IMO anyway, chrome is what Harleys are all about.

My 96 really benefitted from a free flow air cleaner, V&V short Shots with quiet baffle (for some added back pressure?) S&S easy start 583 cams and a remap on a rolling road. It pulls hard, so much so the clutch slipped in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. I fitted the Barnett 9 plate clutch and a higher rate pressure plate. I've got a Popeye left arm now but the bike performance is enough for me (for now anyway). Lots of future options to consider.

Right on, those are some fun bikes. I really like the Street Bob, just not the spoke wheels but that's just my personal preference. I was glad to see some mags on the new on this year, less maintenance without having to keep the wheel true and tight.

Those dyna Fat Bobs with the earlier seat are quite a reach to the forward controls. Lol l can't reach the pegs comfortably on them either. Good air cleaner but no doubt makes it a reach. The plug wires from SE are ab awesome inexpensive upgrade, one of the first things l do.

Well done. I have a 2013 Electra Glide Classic and a 93 Electra Glide Sport. My 93 is a dog but it's super reliable. The 2013 is a 103 and seems to have awesome power(at least for me). Problem is since I bought them both used, I don't know what's been done. Love to see what they do on a Dyno. (I'm just babbling so I can comment for you)

Excellent content, at what point when installing cams in a 88ci stock do I start thinking about springs
@GixxerFoo5 ай бұрын
As long as you're using a cam designed to be bolt in you don't have to worry about valve springs. But if you choose to go with a high lift cam that's when you'll get into needing some valve springs.

So I have an '04, 88" twin-cam-B that I had the dealership install a HD 96" kit and tune, cam, oil pump, etc. a few years ago. Is there a jug/piston upgrade that will work for that? After the 96" kit the dyno for HP&TQ was in the mid 90's. I have also installed some DK Custom toys (Check them out on KZbin) and there is a noticeable if not dramatic improvement in HP&TQ. If both are not over 100, they are scaring the hell out of it.

Gday mate, Greetings from Melbourne, Australia 🇦🇺 👍 i'm a fan of your youtube channel and appreciate all of your insight and advice. I'm just wanting to know what you'd suggest as far as a cam selection for my '07 (96") FXDWG... i currently just have a hi-flo filter, 2-1 supertrapp (18 discs & open end cap) and dyno tuned to suit... a friend has given me a set of 103" cylinders & heads. The heads have manual compression releases installed already. I'm saving up for the Fueling cam plate & Oil Pump, inner cam bearings, hydraulic lifters, gaskets, cams & pistons. What cams would u recommend for my planned setup and what compression pistons to suit?? I'm looking for more bottom-mid end torque as a majority of my riding is around town... your recommendations and advice would be much appreciated mate 👍 Thanks

Hi Gixxer, Could you please do a video on newly assembled engine. How to break it in. We just installed S&S 110 big bore in 07 Heritage 96 Ci and I am very confused because I have been told the following: Don't ride at steady speed, don't let rpm rise too much, no lugging, no reving the throttle, don't heat up the engine, don't get in 3rd or 4th gear etc. With Los Angeles traffic, it is very hard to do all of the above. For first 50 miles, I have done 16 miles and it has confused the heck out of my brain. Please advice something simple to follow.

I have a 2018 Street Glide Special M8 107 with Harley's torque cam, Ventilator air cleaner, V&H Power Dual header and High Output mufflers. The dealer tuned it with Harley's Street Tuner. The numbers are nowhere near the numbers you're getting with a modified 96. They got 92 HP & 105 Torque. That said, the bike feels very fast to me but I've always questioned those numbers. Do you think I should be getting more from this setup? Great videos & THANKS!!!

Not a HD guy, but I'm shopping for a sportster to add to my thusfar sportbike only life. How can people like hammer get so much power from 1275 kit for the Evo engine? I don't know Harley motors that well, but it seems like you can build a mean Evo powered sportster pretty cheap. Is the Evo a better motor for hot rodding than the twin cam then?
@GixxerFoo2 жыл бұрын
I personally ride Sportsters myself for their reliability especially when you start putting some power in them. A Sportster with a 1275 kit, 10.5:1 compression, cams and a good pipe will lay down over 100 horse pretty easily. Especially the late models 04 and newer they have really good factory heads on them, 03 and earlier need head work. But Hammer can really hook you up with anything you need, just tell them how far you want to go.
