Those Kevlar like to be wet. I’m surprised the box doesn’t tell you to soak the frictions in ATF Type f. I still have my shovel but I switched to evo clutch years ago. Great explanation on the process on the old girl

Put enough primary oil in there to touch the bottom of the clutch basket so that the oil will get flung around in there

Does the starter motor come right out on the 1980 shovel I have it stuck in start mode and sometimes it pops the starter breaker thanks Rocco great videos!!!

@@TwoWheelRocco may I just ask on these older shovels when the starter motor started to short why did the handlebar starter switch start to smoke when it wouldn’t turn over? Shouldn’t the breaker have reset cause it finally did and the smoking stopped milliseconds later. Then I tapped starter motor with a hammer to verify before I ripped it apart and now it’s stuck engaged. Have a new hi-torque starter from J&P Cycles that just came in, I think that old one has never been changed since 1980. Last year I changed the starter solonoid and clutch drive but should’ve have changed starter too but I should’ve known the way the starter clutch drive gear was chewed up that the motor was weak too.

Those stamped Steel Derby covers always leak because they're never flat. Even if you flatten it out it will distort the moment you tighten it. You're better off with an oem cast aluminum cover.

I have a 73 Shovelhead with new clutches not sure if I’m doing something wrong but it’s like it’s stuck in one gear and I’m not quite understanding on the clutch plate. Is it to the flat or or to the bottom of the bevel

I'm sorry I don't have the answer for you. I would check the linkage. I know I had problems with mine shifting out of first year and it was the linkage was slipping. Hope that helps. It's a basic clutch. Thank you for watching and all your support michelle. Ride safe and have a great day.

The only way to cure that dragging of the clutch on a Shovelhead is to install a clutch tamer. I guarantee after another week or so of riding the bike you're going to have the same problem unless you install the Tamar.
@TwoWheelRocco9 ай бұрын
Thank you for that insight, yes it is a problem. I don't remember it as a kid being a problem when I had my Shovel head but I don't even remember doing a clutch on it. when I was younger. Thank you ride safe and have a great day Joe.

I recently purchased an 82 fxr,so I pulled the primary to check out chain.Everything looked good except I found a couple of rivets laying next to the magnet.Would you know where these came from. It doesn't look like the clutch.Anyway thanks again for the tuition.I have subscribed.
