Straight to the point. My speedometer on my 03 Heritage started reading 50 miles faster than I was training . I had just bought the Harley and had no idea even where the speed sensor was. Your video showed quickly that it was an easy fix. Pulled it out and cleaned all the metal shavings and spooge off the sensor. Everything is an easy fix....If you know how to do it. Thanks again for saving me from getting raped by the local dealership.

My VDO speedometer started to cut out erratically and then stopped working altogether @ 40,000 miles. I did what you explained. The sensor was full of crud. I cleaned it out and now everything works like new. You saved me. You da man!

I had the same issue, speedo started reading low, showing like 30 when actual speed was more like 45-50. I cleaned up the sensor, no shavings or bits of metal, but there was a blob of gunge on the end. It didn’t want to go back in, so I put some grease on it then it went in. Test rode and speedo worked fine, many thanks

Me and my buddies were headed to Rollin thunder and as soon as we got on the interstate I was in the front and I looked back and they’re there their way back I look at my speedometer it says I’m like 60 it felt like I was going 100 that’s because I probably was lost from diameter stuck and we had a good laugh at the next pull over they always said I drive too fast and that just proved them right which I didn’t like but at least they knew it was a honest mistake

Good stuff. Ive got an 03 Dyna with low miles and a couple years ago the speedo was reading funny. So I took out sensor and wiped it real good but gently. It had some trash on it, but not too bad. That worked and all better. Fast forward to yesterday and speedo wasnt reading at all and blinkers wouldnt cancel. I took out sensor and looked at it and all clean, so I replaced it with new sensor. I removed seat and battery for easier access. I unplugged the sensor and decided to run new sensor plug up and through and behind battery box, after installing sensor into its location. I made sure all was working " it was " and then snipped the wires to remove old sensor. All good.

Outstanding! My speedo needle was completely dead albeit my odometer and trip meter were on they weren’t registering any miles either - which makes sense. This is a great how to fix video that kept me from sending the bike to the shop! 👍👊 Thanks for the help if you’re ever in Kansas City I owe you a beer and a burger!

Sheri White Yes I did do this and it fixed my issue. I think I will check my speed sensor every time I change my transmission oil as well to clean off any metal shavings before refreshing it with new syn3. For what it’s worth my bike has over 130,000 miles on it as well.

Dude, thanks so much ! I've had my Dyna for years and never had an issue. But yesterday that ENGINE light came on, and the speedo went nuts. Diag code d08Set was showing. So I watched this vid and did what you did. All good ! Thanks again !!

I also say Thank you, I just did my 2000 Dyna FXD and it was just like yours covered badly in metal shavings. I cleaned them off and will see if this fixed it when I go out riding in the morning. So very cool to fix stuff, I love my bike.

Thanks for this. My bike started doing this last week and I got an error code P0503. Mine also stalls when I come to a stop and pull in the clutch. Harley told me they wont work on my bike since I've got the V&H FP3. I'll give this a shot and hopefully it works out.

My sensor is in front of transmission on bottom half of transmission. If I take it off will trans oil leak out of it? Im afraid to take it off but need to clean it cuz my speedo needle is in 6 o clock position 25mph under actual speed but everything works great just speedo needle is in wrong position so idk if it's even a speed sensor issue but would like to clean it anyways before I attempt to carefully remove needle and just reposition it back to 0.

Ah..so thats where the sensor wire leads to...thank you! Ive been having an issue wih the speedo, sometimes the speedo just drops to 0 and stays down for a few kilometers and if im lucky it shoots right back up again. Kinda intermittent, i wonder if this relates to the engine shut off problem ive been having.

aviezek it relates to engine shut off at idle so if she shut off that should be fixed as well

My 95 Wide Glide speedo will only go to about 20 or 25 mph don't know if it has got a sensor but I will check it in the morning.

2006 sportster Same problem and it now has problems with the ignition coil sensor too many sensor problems and if I look at the older bikes they never had sensors then what's the big joy in having a sensor in the bike now.

Was going down the road today and coming to a stop and the bike died and when I got her started again I noticed the Speedo not working , also the turn signals would not self cancel and she was idling weird, my bike is a 2003 vrod with 5000 miles on it,speed sensor ?

ive read sometime the speedo glitches if u start the bike too fast after turning the key. try turning the key and wait 5 secs or so. then press the start button. It also might be the turn signal module. My bike is a 2002 low rider and i had to replace the turn signal module years ago because the left side stopped working. replacing it fixed the prob, cost about 130 bucks and took 30 minutes to replace. good luck i hope u sort it out.

Having the same thing now with a 2014 Softail Slim. Add to your symptoms that when the trip control is set to show gear and revs, the current gear isn't shown.

It is normal to get all that metal when new but your bike is not new anymore and should not have as much anymore. That is Haley.
