How to Replace the Speed Sensor on your Harley Sportster. This vehicle speed sensor is attached to the engine's crankcase, behind the rear cylinder and the starter motor. Although the sensor is fairly robust, they do go bad over time, resulting in an erratic speedometer reading. Replacing the sensor is straightforward enough for most Sportster owners to complete. This will work on most Harley Davidsons.

Worked. Like. A. Charm. 2 weeks ago, my speedo stopped working,and my turn signals would not cancel. Followed your video; especially snaking the sensor wire, ( great idea!). Popped the wires out of the connector, took pics of everything BEFORE I did it, put it back together and fired it up. Speedo works like brand new, and turn signals were self canceling. Thanks for the video!!!

Never had a problem with the speedometer on my bike but it’s good to know where the speed sensor is and how to replace. appreciate all your video’s. Right now I’m working on my bike I use your video to test and change the neutral switch. It was a perfect time to do it because I had to take the exhaust off, the crossover had a crack in it at the rear pipe. Then while I was at it might as well change the rear tire. And then I change the rear brakes. It’s starting to become a makework project. I’m just going over the whole bike because it’s 18 years old now and I’d like to do as much preventative maintenance so I don’t have any breakdowns. I’m actually a car/truck technician/mechanic so I don’t actually mind working on it. I just want to fix everything now so I don’t have to do anything on it for the next few years just change the oil and ride.

Thank you. Just bought a ‘99 1200 and the speedo wasn’t working but had power. Used this video to get the job done. My cable had two zip ties on it along the frame but other than that it was a nearly identical project. I ended up removing my rear exhaust pipe to more easily access the allen key screw as the extended socket allen ball wouldn't work for me. But I have after market short shot pipes so it wasn't too bad to take one off. Thank you for all of these videos.

Awesome!!! Thank you Rocco! I have a 95 XLH883 speedometer that jumps all over the place, and the odometer has stopped displaying, so I was told to replace the speed sensor. Your video is very helpful... I'm just nervous about taking the plug apart. Looks like I am on the big adventure! LOL!
