Air cooled, long stroke, low revving engine. Engine is more focused on providing high levels of torque at low RPM rather than producing high power but need to be revved up to reach those levels of power. Also because this is what HD's customers are looking for; air-cooled push rod v-twin is Harley's "signature". Harley made a much more powerful liquid cooled engine in the V Rod before, but nobody bought it.

Another thing europeans need to think about, is the torque peaks at 3500 rpm, low compared to European and asian bikes, but my Harley, when cruising at 65 mph (104 kph) is only turning over about 2100-2200 rpm. These are not high maint bikes, hydraulic valves, so no adjustments, ever. The same for the 150hp DOHC Pan America, and as for repairs, my local Harley dealer also sells BMW, Kawasaki and Royal Enfield. Service rates are the same at $140 USD per hr. BMW parts are higher than HD. Might be reverse overseas. Fit and finish quality on HD is second to none, you get what you pay for. Way less plastic, and the look of an HD is more than how they dress up the plastic fairings. If you still don't like one after riding it then buy something else. If high revving is your thong, look at the Pan Am or Sportster S or the Nightster. Their numbers might be more to your liking, 150hp for the PA, 120 Sportster S, and 90 for the Nightster. Oh, and my 900lb 2014 Ultra Classic with a 1687cc engine can and does carry 2 people and gets 40 mpg doing so.

Power is not everything in a bike..but and engine which is over 1700cc but producing just 82hp...is simply sickening. American engineering...keep your bike in america thank you.

​@@azakisma.1.mo_agothe sheer disparity in every aspect is horrible especially for the money when I'm talking about turning stopping everything. Reliability maintenance expenses? Gas mileage where items wearing faster because of the weight and you can't save yourself if somebody pulls out in front of you as easily as you can on a sport, bike or even a sport touring bike or even a dual sport or supermodo probably wheelie up over them with the supermodo at least in my dreams
