Freddie, I’ve got to tell you. I always enjoy your reviews of all kinds of bikes. Many of them I couldn’t care less for, and many I only have slight interest in. But I love watching your enthusiasm for all bikes. But this review, as a life long Harley owner and builder, touched my heart as one of the best heart felt honest reviews I’ve ever heard. I will never buy that bike, because I live in the past and it’s way to new for me. But what you said goes for all Harley’s. I believe you understand what it means to own a Harley, and I sincerely hope you listen to yourself and buy one. Harley’s and Triumphs go together like peas and carrots. It might be time to give the Bonnie a friend.

Congratulations on an excellent review and the purchase of an excellent bike. I am an American and I bought a 2019 model in Vivid Black which now has 47,000 miles on it, though that is mainly due to the pandemic. I weigh 85.72 kg and I am 1.75 meters tall. I absolutely love my SG. Unfortunately, I must add a lot to what Freddie had to say….. is basically correctly about almost everything. Here is what he missed: Cruise control and ABS! The Milwaukee 8 engine (M8)! It has four valves per cylinder (2x4 is eight). Harley has made four valve cylinders before, circa WWII, but Harleys were basically four valve engines. The M8 finally changes that. These engines are extensively tested, extremely reliable, and efficient. They are extremely powerful. More power than you need; torque monsters; plenty of roll-on power; 107 cubic inches is 1753 ccs!. The engine is rigid mounted to the frame and counter-balanced to reduce vibration. 6 speed transmission. Less important are the Mantis rims which I like but make it difficult to add air to the rear tire. Mid-mounted controls. 18.9 liter gas tank. The bike starts with a FOB; you must be within three feet of the bike for it to start. It has Kevlar belt drive. The thin windshield on the fairing is just for looks; if you want wind protection you will have buy a 15 cm aftermarket product. And if you are a real wimp, buy a Prius. The two fuel caps; one is decoration. More important. The analog speedometer (put their intentionally) hides a lot of software and electronics (ABS). On the console is an odometer, two trip meters, miles left in the tank per gas in tank, a tachometer, and a clock. There are hazard lights. In several scenes Freddie can be seen driving on the wrong side of the road (not a good idea), and at 10:48 he mispronounces the word “leverage”. The same people mispronounce schedule and aluminum. Less important. No one in America rides the SG without the fairing; just the way it is. I think it looks better with the fairing. More important. Freddie is right; it is a chameleon, but I would use the word “hybrid”. Harley recognized some riders wants a cool around town bike, and others would want to go on trips, or maybe carry something in the bags. I am that person, so they bike was perfect for me. It is not a grand touring bike by American standards; try a Street Glide, Road King, or Road Glide. By the way, I also own a Street Glide. The fairing does not come off easily when I do it. There is wiring on the left fork when you are sitting on the bike facing forward that gets in the way of removing the fairing latch. No big deal. I would put the fairing and the bags (not paniers) on something soft when you rest them on the ground. Freddie is right; a single brake rotor is enough. Harley’s maintenance is expensive! Harley’s burn oil roughly at the rate of one quart per 1,000 miles so carry a quart or half quart with you. The shiny lower part of the engine is an impressive example of chrome and speaks well of HD. It is called the primary converter, or the primary. The fins on the engine are not chrome but polished steel and they are subject to pitting (you have to scrape them with a plastic version of steel wool from 3M). Don’t let Harley sell you on an experience or an image. Only you can create those things yourself. It might be true, HD is discontinuing the SG this year. This is another example of HD limiting supply to create demand. Less important. Tell us the name and brand of those boots. Do you like them? I can see the SG coming out in a 114 engine. You might as well check out the latest versions of the Breakout, because after buying that beautiful, practical, and appropriate SG, you are going to see an amazing Breakout (not so practical) and be filled with regret. Thanks again for a great review, and congrats on your new ride.

An excellent review, Freddie, and one which has made me reconsider whether a Harley could be a realistic purchase for me. Hitherto put off by the weight and the image of H-Ds (and for many of their models that still applies), you've satisfied me that the Sport Glide is a versatile, stylish, and superbly built machine which carries off its weight much more manageably than I ever thought possible. It would have to be a used example, but a Sport Glide is now on my radar. Freddie Dobbs, not so much Influencer as Convincer!

@@FreddieDobbs I'm in the U.S., not a "Harley" guy / owner, and DO NOT find the 'Harley culture' to be polarizing. It's mostly a function of an individual's viewpoint. A recent anecdote, I was actively considering the Pan America as well as Live Wire. Dealership experience, as well as engagement with Harley customers/owners was professional, warm and positive. As I'm now on these dealership email lists, their outreach with weekly events far outshines any I've experienced with non-Harley brand dealerships. Superb for community and cammaraderie. Fun as well. Totally agree Freddie. I'm a convert, late to the party (due to their price) but now justified knowing my money is safer on something that depreciates so little and brings SO MUCH JOY! 😁 Agree, they are SO EASY to live with. Taking a pillion on a glorious cruise through a city? Absolutely! Long haul rides across a country? Heaven! Good enough to chase your mates on fast and fancy performance bikes? Hard to believe but yes... They have an unwavering stability, deceptively strong brakes and enough grunt to pull an apartment block down in any gear 😛🤣... I love the fact that I'll never need to perform a valve check or adjustments ever again, I'll never need to lube, clean and adjust a chain and know that parts and service are always on hand at anytime if or when I need them... Established in 1903 and still in continuous production is testament to buyer confidence in a product that has excellent aftermarket support, ease of use, low maintenance and they must be good to ride, right?!🙂

But on build quality and after 30,000km, reliable Harleys are not, compared to German and Japanese bikes. They need adjustments and some parts break rapidly and repeatedly. Good bikes but always considered as weekend bikes. It is very rare to see one used as a daily commute. This could be the chrome and shineynes puts people off because it would get filthy especially in cold weather with muck on the roads. I had an M109 but the black engine and exhaust, I commuted daily with it, but it wasn't really a commuting bike. Now I use my KTM 1290 adventure sport, best commute bike ever as it looks better when it is filthy. My weekend ride is a 2010 Goldwing 1800gl, bought a wee while ago and it is awesome. However like the Harley it is a weekend ride bike. Keep the videos coming.

Blimey Freddie, HD should gift you one for services above and beyond! Great review. I really wanted one but it was out of my price range so ended up with a Low Rider.

Single disc is for dirt bikes and economy models. Early FXDL had twin disc but didn't sell well against the cheaper options. USD forks were available but they reduce steering lock and have minimal advantages much of the time. I'll stick but headlights have definitely improved.

What a great review! As the owner of a 2021 FLSB (pearl white colour) I thoroughly concur. Perhaps the most beneficial point to the sport glide, as you emphasised, is the relative simplicity of the bike - a rider’s bike as you stated. Sans all the electronic wizardry that gets in the way of the experience and delight of simply riding with the company of one’s own thoughts for endless hours. Indeed it is a rider’s bike! I’ll be holding on to mine till my days of riding are over. To be perfectly honest it’s all that one needs on two wheels and it really is the pick of the Harley Davidson litter when it comes to versatility. Great review Mate👍😎

(of course also many other things including a test ride at my dealer) .... and last month it's happened ! Freddie, my man..... I’ve recently purchased a 2022 Sport Glide (White Pearl)......and after some sweet talking to the better half, managed to retain my Thruxton! Best of both worlds eh?? Oh, and we won’t mention the cricket 🇦🇺 😉

Freddie the Heritage Classic 114 does the same thing, and the styling is absolutely stunning. I own a 2022 and it's literally the most comfortable motorcycle on the planet. Would definitely recommend to anyone

Nice to see you use what we here in OZ call riggers gloves. Sturdy, cheap and best for hot weather.

I like classic bikes, no matter if Triumph, moto guzzi, Indian or Harley, but this awesome bike, I ride this in Tenerife, is awesome. It looks and fits better to you, then the Boneville. More masculin, with or without fairing. I live in the german and austrian alps. I ride the Harley Low Rider S 117 with the leather pros saddlebags, so awesome. Love your vids and you inspired me to ride in tenerife!. Masca was incredibal! Go on making beautiful vids!! Your follower Stefan….ride save bro . PS if you compare this with the Road King Special, wich bike do you prefer?

I purchased a new fatboy sold it 11 months later due to wheels tarnishing, water in speedo and paint peeling. The bike was always garaged and never seen rain.

In America if you really enjoy socializing regularly with like minded riders for group rides , if you enjoy dealership sponsored events then there isn't a better brand than Harley. This is the part the BMW folks missed with the R1800. Paint and chrome is at the top list which has been a staple Harley leaned on since the early 1990s. I suppose it was their way to compete with motorcycles that were cheaper and more power and probably more reliable if pushed hard. I'm a Triumph, Royal Enfield and BMW buyer in general but respect the Harley corner just like I do Ducati and Honda for what they do.

Freddie, if you love Harley’s you need to try the Low Rider S 117! I’ve just got back from a mammoth road trip across Europe on mine and it’s now equally at home on the streets of London.

You're selling it to me Freddie. Just got to sort out remortgaging my house. Seriously if I were to buy a cruiser it would be sub £10k and a Triumph Speedmaster 1200. Btw nice camera work by Monica following what you are saying or pointing to. Made the video very flowing and slick.
