I did a complete Stage 1 over the winter on My Road King Special. Ventilator Air Cleaner/Fuel-Moto Jackpot Header/Tab 4.5 Zombies with Z-Rings and Torque Cones/Power Vision with Fuel-Moto Tune. Yesterday I was finally able to get out and ride for the 1st time after the mods. 140 miles. The throttle response is so much better. It's instant. No lag at all. I did the install in my garage. Wasn't sure what to expect. I am very happy with the change in the way the RKS performs. Stage 1 at a minimum is required. More air in and out ,with improved fueling, is a good thing. I use and highly recommend the Revo-A's. I also have the AXEO fork cartridges. Handling/Comfort/ Ride Quality are dramatically improved. Best upgrade I've ever done for any Harley. Take care.

The first mod I did to my Ultra Limited was suspension, I believe that bang for buck it is the the best improvement you can make. Where I live we have lots of curves and bumps, usually combined. The suspension upgrade not only improved handling but also comfort on the bike, making it easier to use the available power. When you modify your suspension get it set up to suit your weight, amount of time you are two-up with a full load of gear and the types of roads you like to ride. Don't just buy out of the box, you will miss a lot of improvements if you do. The problem I have with stage 1 is the addiitional noise when riding for long periods. For me it becomes more tiring and annoying so happy to stick with the stock set up.

@@hdstreetglide08 Hi, my upgrades were done on a budget. I installed Ikon shocks with heavy duty springs. The Ikon shocks have adjustable rebound damping which makes them better value for money in a low end shock. I am happy with the ride and handling, however spending more money of higher quality shocks may have improved the Ultra more. This may not be as much of an issue on a bike without a tour pack, as it makes the bike significantly lighter. I also used installed Ikon heavy duty fork springs with 10w fork oil set to the factory level, several people and my local dealer suggested that I use 20w oil, I believe this would have been too heavy causing the front end to be harsh.

Bodean52 I recently picked up my 2022 and had same issue with the bars, I asked the dealer to move the bars up as far as possible and It still felt stock to me, I went in and took the clamp off and raised the bars up, took a pair of vise grips and pulled the pin out that prevents the bars from being adjusted further up or down, put the bars back in the clamp and raised them as much as I wanted making sure I didn’t pinch any wires coming out, it was easy to do, would have been easier with two people. I did this on my 2016 road glide and never had an issue. Just a suggestion if your wanting to raise them a little higher.

I really appreciate that and I thought the same because mine are rolled up to the pin right now. When does the bleeding stop Bob? Never! I had the same attitude when I bought the Wing. I was going to keep it ‘as is’….. nah! I have already added goodies to that bad boy. There are no engine performance upgrades needed on a GoldWing. Im not sure you can even do anything other than keep it stock, but it’s all the stuff that hangs off the bike that can add up. As far as my 20 year old Electra Glide, I’m getting ready to paint her. She already has stage 1 and 2. I did both upgrades to increase cruising performance. And it made a world of difference. Besides suspension work, Stage 1 & 2 are probably the best ‘bang for the buck’ upgrades that can \ should be done on a Harley. Nope….. the bleeding does not stop . 🤔

I am a Harley Owner. I have a 2017 Ultra Limited with the 107. It currently has a “stage I” with Sharkroad 4” exhaust and 2.5” baffles. It has an RSD Turbine intake simply because I liked the look of it and got it for a good price. I have the Power Vision Shop Tune “the one that the shop can tune the stock ECM without the actual tuner or touch screen display” and had my guy tune it. I have a video showing the difference in sound from Stock, Sharkroad with Baffles and Sharkroad without Baffles. I wanted better sound than stock and I wanted more power for when I ride two up on longer trips. I am not a small guy and with my wife and I together we weigh around 500 lbs which maxed out the stock suspension. I want enough power that I do NOT have to down shift to accelerate out of a bad situation on the highway or to pass a vehicle on the back roads in a timely manner while riding two up. Stock it just didn’t have the power to do that. I will be going to a “stage II” in the near future. I will be replacing the stock head pipe which has the catalyst with the FuelMoto Jackpot 2-1-2 stainless Headpipe which allows me to use the stock heat shields and the same slipons I currently have. I will also be getting a Woods 22XE cam kit which has the S&S lifters and adjustable push rods as well as a new inner cam bearing and all the gaskets and stuff. I will be replacing the lifter guides while I’m in there as well as the oil pump with the 2020 HD oil pump that’s been upgraded. Bone stock this bike was putting out around 75-HP and 90-TQ. With the stage I it’s now pushing around 90-HP and 100-TQ. When I get the Stage II parts together and have my guy install it all as well as dyno tune the bike. It should be pushing around 105-110-HP and 115-120-TQ. That’s around a 40-45% increase in HP and 30-35% increase in TQ. I am fairly certain that with this gain in HP and TQ it will give me enough power to power out of a bad situation or pass a vehicle in a timely manner while riding two up. Exhaust cost $225, Intake Cost $175, tune cost $200, cam kit cost $650, FM jackpot headpipe cost $400, 2020 oil pump cost $150, S&S lifter guides $100, labor for the install and a full dyno tube $600. Because of us maxing out the stock suspension I have upgraded the stock suspension with a Suspension Technologies suspension “ SuspensiontechnologiesUSA.com ”. The ride quality is night and day difference. Plus the new suspension adds nearly double the suspension travel versus stock. I might add that I got their heavy duty suspension which is rated for 600lbs and they also offer an extreme heavy duty which goes to like 800lbs. They are a smaller company but have an amazing product. Based out of Largo Florida. The owner use to design and build NASCAR suspensions he has implemented that knowledge into the motorcycle world. I can now go over a rail road track or pot hole and barely feel it. Where as before it would jar my wife’s back so bad it would cause her back to hurt for several days after a 300 mile ride. Cost is better than most large name brands being at $675 for the rear and $750 for the front. If you happen to live close enough to go to their shop or if you happen to go to a bike rally like Daytona Bike Week “they were there” they will install the suspension free of charge. My reason for the upgrades to the engine is to have the safety of having enough power and performance to be able to control the bike at the twist of the throttle with no down shifting or lag in performance. My reason for upgrading the suspension simply for comfort. Man what a difference. Both are worth the money invested in my personal opinion. I haven’t even finished the Stage II yet and the bike already has a good amount of pep while riding solo.

Bought my 14 SGS late in 14. Part of the deal was stage one. Screaming Eagle intake, V&H twin slash slip ons and FP3. They also performed “exhaust work “,removed the cats. So I didn’t have a before and after. However, while riding with my son two years later ,he has a 2016 SGS, we did a little roll on from 1st gear, his has only slip ons. I walked right away from him and he got the hit first. So it did help performance wise and while we did our saddle sore run I got nearly identical mpg. I’m not interested in going farther with the power but I am going to do the suspension so the Mrs will be more comfy. We’ve had this conversation several times amongst our riding group and most have a stage one. Good video.

I'll have to check the specs but what a difference. It actually lowered the bike by 1"or 1.5" and improved the handling. $1300 bills for the set. Upgrading the suspension is by far the better spent money IMHO. Super Shox custom builds the shocks specifically for your bike, rider weight and riding style. Legends, Ohlins, Fox, Wilber’s, Russ Wernimont , I ride are all excellent. Do the front as well. If I’m keeping the bike long term for lots of miles loved stage 2 but not Harley cams. Don’t forget to do some clutch work if you get up above 100 torque and HP. If I’m not keeping the bike long term I just do a full stage 1. If I were in your shoes, knowing that you love that bike and you at times do some two up tours. I would wait for warranty to expire, do the stage 2 at that time with a complete cam chest upgrade to include cam, cam plate and oil pump.

I traded my 2021 kawasaki vulcan vaquero for a 2017 Road Glide Special. My Road glide has 3x more technology on it as a 2017. But in the gears, the mph and rpm are exactly the same. Here is the difference. On the Kawasaki 1700, when I'm in 3rd gear at 3000 rpms, that's as far as I can go without straining the engine. On the Road Glide in 3rd gear at 3000 rpm, THERE IS PLENTY OF THROTTLE LEFT without straining the engine. So in essence, the Road Glide has more, much more power.

I guess it depends on whether or not the incremental extra power is important to you. To me it’s not worth it. I rarely exceed 5 mph over the limit, accelerate moderately, and these days why do something that I don’t need that will make gas mileage worse. My ‘07 Road King is completely stock with the exception of a luggage rack, a shorter windshield, and a few chrome do-dads. No plans to change a thing. My first Harley was a ‘99 Road King and I did a big bore kit with pipes and an air cleaner. Total waste of some serious money in my opinion. Lesson learned…

Going to Stage 1 actually increases gas mileage. The stock motor is choked off for emissions that the factory has to do. The stage one lets the motor breathe better and for me the stage 1 I did on the 107 did increase my gas mileage a little.

Just my experience, but upgrading suspension on an Ultra/Limited is not worth the money. A standard or special, absolutely. I did not notice enough of a difference to justify the cost and I did front and rear Legends on my Ultra. I actually had a warranty claim on the shocks, which they handled with no issues, but I haven’t put them back on because the stock shocks are doing just fine and I’m always 2up and loaded with weight. @@BoDean52 How many of them people you trust have street glide or road glide standards or specials? To the best of my knowledge, those bikes have 12” shocks, the Ultra/Limiteds have 13”, that’s the big difference. I've never been one to jump into the stage I, II, III or IV scene. It seems to me the people who have the most trouble with their bikes are the ones that start increasing horsepower and displacement on a stock lower case. I have a buddy now with a 131 kit in a heritage producing more horsepower than the stock transmission is even built to handle. He really needs to install a Baker but, that's even more money. And the reason he's up to a 131 is he's already lunched his two previous upgraded engines. He's already talking about the 135 crate motor which, at least was built from the case up to be a 135. When I got my 2015 FLTRX the first thing I did was take it back to the dealer and complain about it "pinging" and being "sluggish" on acceleration (Whether or not it was isn't the point). What that got me was a new fuel map flashed which significantly increased performance, and a decrease in engine temperature all for very little loss in fuel mileage under warranty, without the cost of a tuner. These bikes come from the factory so leaned out in closed loop situations due to EPA regulations they really don't run to their capability. In open loop situations (WOT) for the most part when it comes to fuel adjustment, is done by the O2 sensors. That's the only reason you aren't blowing holes in the top of your pistons on stock bikes from lean conditions at WOT. The second step was to do all the tricks for cooling (except auxiliary fans and a tuner) which I won't go into as they are well documented by multiple KZbin channels already. The third step once the bike was out of warranty was to address Harley's method of dealing blowby and routing all that oil, water and oxygen depleted vapor directly into the throttle body. At this point I did also modify the factory air filter cover (I personally like it's looks) for better airflow The fourth step after cleaning out all the carbon buildup on pistons and valves from dumping oil, water and oxygen depleted air directly into the throttle body over the previous 20,000 miles was to install www.boosterplug.com/shop/harley-davidson-touring-88c1.html. That gives me, IMHO better control than the factory MAS over the Dealer installed fuel map in closed loop situations. The last step since I'd already modified the PVC system which even though it's still closed loop, is illegal I figured in for a penny in for a pound and removed the CAT. Other than what I've described, mine is a stock 103 HO now pushing 52,000 miles. I will "probably replace the cam chain tensioners at 55,000 simply due to age. At 45,000 they still looked pristine. All I've had to do during the bikes life so far is regular maintenance. When I change oil I do change all three holes but, I've not had any clutch issues, compensator issues, automatic primary chain tensioner issues or anything else. Basically just Brake pads, tires, oil and spark plugs. Of course, I've done all the comfort modifications like bars, seat, suspension and addressing Harley's annoying relocation of the rear brake pedal in 2013 but the engines, I pretty much leave alone.

I've considered Stage 1 on my 2017 RoadGlide Ultra but for now the only modification it's had is the addition of HD's Screamin' Eagle StreetCannon mufflers. If anything, I think I'd go straight to Stage 2 because I'd like the extra power of the cam and I'd like the lope sound. I've done the Legend Revo-A rear shocks and Axes front cartridges and really liked them - at first. Riding plans around here change suddenly and taking both saddle bags off to crank in some preload just to take them off before the next solo ride to crank it back out repeatedly is a pain. Hey Bodean 52! Great video. I’ll be honest on my 2011 road glide ultra that I got new to me in 2019 it was a matter of time for changing things out. I always do the stage 1 kit if you will but usually opt for a full head pipe/full exhaust over just slip ons. But I also look at the big picture as you did. I ended up with a mustang seat custom dynamics lights new bars exhaust air cleaner tuner and then threw in Legends AXEO up front and Revo A in the rear. Now I will say like everyone else it’s night and day. You don’t realize how bad the suspension is untill you change it all out. I used to say first think I’m doing to the bike is a stage 1 kit now it’s full suspension. Also another crazy thing is for me the Revo A have been a awesome shock but once I set it and forget it and haven’t messed with preload adjustment I almost wish I had saved a few hundred and gone Revo not Revo A . Mind you that’s all personal preference but mine came out of the box set a 3 witch is what they put it at (Revo is set for 3 no adjustment) set the sag height and haven’t done a thing since. I installed 10 inch La choppers MISSTAKE. Tooooo low waiting on cable kit for the 14s. I went with the Legend Revos . Money well spent to help against chicago crap roads
