Harley Davidson will not cover damage caused by aftermarket accessories or parts. Why should they? Their warranty also specifically states that it will not cover damage caused by racing, off-road use, or lack of maintenance.

All manufacturers have a similar clause concerning after market/3rd parts parts being covered under warranty or possibly voiding their warranty. That has nothing to do with "right to repair." Regardless, HD has bigger issues right now.

The bell at the Harley Dealers is not ringing as much as it did 6 years ago. There are very few parties at the dealers and the ones that are going on, nothing special about them. They use to have a huge party when the new models came out,now they just push them out on the floor. I stopped buying branded Harley’s stuff 5 years ago. Getting way better deals from the tactical gear stores on line.

@@jimifed2798 Yes. That’s what I meant, the organisation was a mess, lots of expensive meetings to come up with nothing viable and money disappearing into oblivion, or shareholders as you put it, and not development. But, there was also the ‘it’s British so it must be the best’ arrogance and Jap bikes were utter garbage (Jap crap) made with plastic bits not metal. Not a great solution was is it. So using an aftermarket oil filter that causes oil circulation issues would rightly be a warranty voider, but no way will they spot a gasket or brake pads. They need the 440X to go global.

While in the USA owners of vehicles the owner works on, if done propely, should not void the warranty. But they dam sure don't have to warranty a parts failure on HD parts. I was standing in line at the Ford truck dealership in Seattle waiting for the parts department. A customer had fought a well thrashed old Ford flatbed truck. I needed a new clutch. But, the customer provided an aftermarket clutch and related parts. The shop tore down and replaced the clutch. Put back togeter, it was found the customer provided clutch was defective. The customer howled wen he was told that, no, they would not reform the job for free. And, no, he could not take the truck elsewhere, unless he paid for the labor the shop had in it. Customer was pissed, but you can't expect he dealer to warranty parts or labor on aftermarket parts you buy and use.

If what you want makes sense why did you not just buy an aftermarket bike then ask HD to put a warranty on it. It sounds like you bought an expensive bike but can’t really afford to run it so turning the blame on the manufacturer. Just saying

People expect some value for their money. The Stage Kits HD offer are over-priced and aftermarket parts often have better quality and cost much less. It would make sense if HD didn't void their rider's warranty out of pettiness; but they do. It would also make sense to sell a machine that wasn't a disappointment off the floor, requiring upgrade kits, especially at the "premium" prices they charge, but like you're saying, that would make sense. It seems people buy HD for emotional reasons (image, style, sound) and take a hit on performance, reliability and value for their hard earned dollar. They get more upset about Harley's wokeness than they do about getting suckered it seems. Edit: spelling

Youguys keep using the word woke wrong. However, it really doesn't matter and ultimately Harley has been going down for over 2 decades. Anyone that isn't a Harley victim has read the writing on the wall a long time ago. Overpriced, unreliable and a horrible dealer network. If they can't fix those issues, it really doesn't matter about their social policies or where they are manufactured. Without new customers, they won't survive. And they seem to be more interested in alienating their shrinking ( let's be honest, dieing) customer base. Don't let companies put you off because they support a pride event, scream about the problems with the product and service. That affects you more. Yesterday is gone, you can't live there. Harley needs to learn this. A new CEO or board isn't enough to change it. The culture has to change and that starts with the people who choose to lay their money down. Demand a better product and a better price. There are other options out there, don't buy their history, buy their future. Invest in a bike you want, pay a reasonable price and set the expectations of future services, including price and dealer attitudes. This goes for any brand. I would like to point out that in Vancouver, a well-known 1% club was and has been a great supporter to the LGBT community, long before it was legal to be gay. They acted as security for our unsanctioned events. We will never forget their support. We drank at bars they owned and we always felt welcome. We bought lots of things from them. They are heros to us. A bit of history that probably repeated itself in other cities around North America. When I was too young to be in bar or nightclub, I could always find an after hours or as we called them back then, a booze can. Who do think ran them and who do you think their customers were. The point is, Harley has in one way or another, been a part of the LGBT community.

Who cares about the woke or not nonsense, I’m not triggered by what others do or are or feel. Why are so many Harley people triggered to the point of anger by what others do. They need to have a look at themselves. Isn’t this brand supposed to be about freedom and individuality? Regardless it should always be about the quality, integrity of the product and the customer support. The key here is the customer. All customers present sad future. This matter before a sale ( if they really want a sale ) , and in the dealer, service and cultural backup that is required to make the customer feel good about their purchase. Every single business in the history of the world ( at least in a free and democratic capitalist economy lives or dues on the support of its customers. If they forget that they perish. This begins at the price point , too much and your market shrinks, too little and they won’t see value, the product must be true to what us expected if the customer, in other words it must deliver a range of benefits to remain in favour. If your market is culturally based or heritage based then it has to meet that expectation, similarly, if your market or customer expects , for example, light weight high performance machines, then that is what you must deliver to keep them. If however that market is insufficient to make a profit then the intended market has to be examined. All of these aspects must be constantly examined and adjusted. The trick is how to appeal to traditional markets , because they change over time and appeal to new markets. This is why companies and governments chase growth, growth into new markets is essential. So for Harley, and they do build some lovely machines their traditional market is defining, not because they don’t like Harley’s anymore, but because aging riders have changing priorities and needs. Was there ever an actual market for a $50 k electric bike, no, but they wasted money trying to be seen as innovative and ahead of the game. Did the big tourers need to be redesigned to weigh less and cost less, yes. Harley in my view, and it’s only my opinion as a Harley lover, is that they have failed to b genuinely innovative inbreeding context of their traditional markets and have failed to be clever enough in selecting where they want to be. This failure is not Woke or some other ill-conceived political slogan but a fundamental lack of knowing what they want as a company. So they flapnaround trying new ideas, thinking they might have an edge but they have forgotten what business they are in. Like the Harley and Davidson boys of the early days they have forgotten what passion is , it’s not a style, tattooed, or a clothing range it’s a passion for design and engineering. The Harley’s of old that built the company’s reputation were not heritage machines or designed to fit a cultural lifestyle, they were machines built with the latest and finest designs and manufacture available to them at that time. They need to go back to a corporate ethos of engineering excellence and design, not a shallow nod to a diminishing customer demand. So Harley have created their own problem by failing to develop product that is industry leading, they have not moved forward and are living tenuously on the good will of a customer base who are not going to be around much longer. A small bike built in India which still seems to hang on to its heritage looks is not the answer, it won’t matter how good that bike is it will be seen as a weak attempt to appeal to a youth market but with very strange styling based again on it supposed heritage value. Triumph however with a better and more simple 400 also have very modern high performance bikes in the range. If people can follow my tread here this gives the customer choice, eg. they can have a cutting edge sports bike or they can look to traditional styles, it’s their choice . Harley does not do this. And lastly, those heritage customers have also been influenced by the outlaw biker persona, and while it feels great to ride around looking and feeling cool and free and individual, the general population don’t distinguish well between outlaw criminal gangs and loud Harley’s at the traffic lights. So that is heavy baggage for the company to move beyond. So the future of Harley is being made now and the nonsense political jibes are completely pointless, the CEO , the board, the chief engineers [ if there is one) all need to go and a corporate culture , not a customer culture, of engineering excellence , service and product development must become paramount. Without it the company will die out like its current customer base. I want a v twin with the charm of an Electra glide with 60 hp that weighs less than 240 kg, that is cheap to buy, cheap to run and easily to service post warranty. Plus I’d like a well made scooter with about 20 hp for commuting, a lightweight adventure tourer , say like a Honda cb500x , I like that street fighter they proposed but never built. I’d like to see some real engineering thought go into how those beautiful v twin engines can be made to run into the future, bring back a simple Sportster, come on Harley get cracking.
