🎯 That's the straight truth. I've bought 3 used HD's from Facebook marketplace. I polished out 2 of them and flipped'em already for decent prices. I kept a beautiful 2000 ultra electra glide for $6,500 that runs amazing. It's only got 35,000 miles on it. It's gorgeous... Looks brand new after serious polish. It looks better than a lot of other used bikes at the dealership for $15,000 or more. I get the same experience for half of the price, and that thing gets compliments every time I ride it. 🤷♂️

I am also not a fan of the look of the 2024 touring models. I also hated the dealership experience from the Mega HD Malls, and the general attitude from staff and stupid games they try to play with you, while wasting your time. They give attitude like they are working for some high end supercar dealership (something no supercar dealership would ever dream of pulling). The whole thing is utterly laughable.

I ordered the Screaming Eagle Stage Two 95 cu in kit, Andrews direct-drive cams, and a Dynojet Power Commander fuel injection module. A one-inch front lowering kit was installed, and a full-size windshield was cut down for my 66-inch height. Ten years later I ordered the Screaming Eagle slash-cut mufflers and the engine was retuned. Progressive Suspension front and rear shocks and new tires are being installed and mounted this month. Older Harley-Davidson motorcycles last forever. Sure, things wear out but it's all available new or used. I really don't consider Harley-Davidson motorcycles expensive. You can buy an expense one but that's if you just have to have top of the line. I wouldn't buy a new motorcycle because in my opinion there's just too much unnecessary electronics to go bad and leave you stranded. I guess it OK if you're going to trade the bike in every few years. It's like with the cars now in that the technology will keep changing every few years and replacement components may not continue to be manufactured beyond 10 years after. A 1960's XLCH was magneto fired and didn't even have a battery. It still got Ya down the road in style! So all this additional technology has turned the machine into the starship enterprise. Better have triple A with recreational vehicle for when the 2024 and newer bikes get some years on them. The late Sonny Barger wrote in his book that the only way to kill a Harley-Davidson is fire. Now I don't think that will apply to the New machines. Not saying they aren't marvelous, Just way to much B.S. involved in keeping those wheels turning.

The reason I went with Indian over Harley wasn’t about the bikes. They are comparable. I didn’t like Harley Davidson‘s business practices. Specifically; charging $650 for initial service which equates to two hours labor and fluids, and I didn’t care for their markups over MSRP. If you can’t put the MSRP and YOUR price as well on a price tag there’s something wrong. I understand that there are some dealers that sell for MSRP, but they are few and far between. But if you paid the price and that’s what you want, that’s great!

But if you’re in the market for a Harley I would take Jerry’s advice and go right now! And even if you don’t buy a bike, at least get a T-shirt or a hat as the apparel line is helping this great American company get through tough times, bike sales-wise.

@ I think that’s the modern ultra limited with the lower seat height? I think it has like a 25 or 26 inch seat height? I respect you and like the videos and the videos are useful for always improving ones skills. I always liked Harley until the dealers treated me like they were doing me a favor by selling to me and the companies stance on looking down on their customers. So, I ended up buying a different American made motorcycle. I paid cash for it. Therefore, I could afford it and wasn't envious of the Harleys. Although, I really wanted to buy one, I absolutely love my choice and I don't look down on others for their choice. Thank you for your time and the videos that you bring.

I always enjoy your helpful videos. A long time ago I bought a new HD Sportster 1200 Custom and I had the dealer do the stage one. I really loved that bike and it was always reliable for me. Than I got my first girlfriend that liked to ride and it was too small for touring with comfort. The Roadking was a bit out of my reach for paying cash. I discovered a not yet well known new brand called Victory. I got a great deal on a Victory TC Touring Cruiser. We rode that bike all over the Western US. Never needed anything but routine maintenance. Age and job injuries meant I had to downsize to get the weight and seat height where I could feel confident. I went to the HD dealer a few weeks ago with my HD riding brothers. The prices shocked me because I hadn't followed HD for a long time. The only bike I could maybe manage happened to be the cheapest being the Softail Standard but it is still expensive. HD had a dilemma, try to compete or become super premium brand. So now they are super premium at premium prices. I am not mad because I just don't see value for money in a HD for my financial tolerance level. Can I buy one, yes, but would I be content to have spent so much, I don't know but I doubt it. I want HD to survive but it will take an amazing deal to get me to bite. What is sad is that HD was a working man's bike, aspirational yes, but you could find a way. Now you have to be a drug dealer or professional class person to buy one. HD went upmarket but is that upmarket buyer around in sufficient numbers to save HD?

They're not for the rugged individual working class anymore. There like the motorhomes now; There for the retired with fat pension government workers, public school teachers, police, professors, and all those postal workers. As a working class person, you have the choice of taking out a big loan or just find one of the thousands of fine used machines out there from a honest private seller. Harley-Davidson will still finance used bikes for you if you buy one from a private seller. It's not a class thing, but keeping up with the joneses' just comes with a large price. Let the fat wallets uy the new ones and park 'em in the climate controlled garage then when they sell it you have a 1-4 year old new bike. I agree though, the bikes really aren't that expensive the American wages just haven't kept up.

Jerry, Mark Tinnirella here. Retired Motor Sergeant. Been riding Harleys since the AMF buy back in the 80s. My concern is, as enthusiats dwindle, seems like younger riders aren't into it as much. People rightly criticized the quality issues AMF had, but if it wasn't for AMF, there'd likely be no Harley Davidson today. I predict a future bailout may be in play, if their cash situation doesn't improve. Just my opinion.
@motorman8572 ай бұрын
I don't see a bailout coming. The Motor company is actually owned by the major stock holders, Black Rock and Vanguard. Could another big company buy enough stocks to put themselves in the position of major stock holder? I would think so, but that kind of thing is over my head.

Jerry, in my opinion the 2024 price drop on cruisers was a big mistake. Did nothing for sales but certainly hurt our resale value. Killing the Ultras and converting to a kit will also hurt resale values. Spending BIG $$$ taking a SG or RG and converting it to a Ultra will be a waste of money as no matter how much $$ you spend accessorizing it, it will still have the trade in value of a stripped down SG or RG. This move will kill resale values, hence making the bikes more expensive to trade in.
@MrFirstone232 ай бұрын
Yep.
@nic.lowther.72 ай бұрын
I agree that the drop in price for 24 hurt values and didn’t offer much positive relief. Regarding the Ultra resale, I disagree. The reason my first Harley was an Ultra was because the resale on those is much lower than a Street Glide. 🤷♂️
@SoloPilot62 ай бұрын
What really hurts HD resale value is the number of low-mileage bikes being sold because their riders have aged out. When there is a large supply, in the hands of motivated sellers, prices plunge.

Hi and thanks for the video! I am not a rich guy, a normal family father and I have to finance my bike. I have been riding Harleys for 6 years so I have no experience of those "good old times" everybody is longing to. Now days everything is expensive. You can´t compare a 1980´s harley to a modern version; of course it is more expensive, but also safer, more reliable, more powerful. Greetings from Finland, Europe! We have canadian weather so ....

Harley continued to raise prices year after year on new bikes, parts and service, it gets to a breaking point some people say enough is enough I'm done with buying new Harley. Harley needs to realize high priced bikes won't sell in a horrible economy.
@motorman8572 ай бұрын
Actually, H.D. reduced prices on their two most popular models in 2024, the Street Glide and Road Glide by 2 to 4 thousand dollars. Whats more, H.D. bikes are less expensive now than 20 years ago as I proved with this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJuTXnWBnduKpKs

@@motorman857 I just saw a ad from my local Harley dealer they put some discounts on 24' models, never seen this type of sale before, they always stuck to msrp. Sales must really be slow for them to do this.

Until Harley makes their bikes affordable their market share will continue to go down the drain, and they'll have to keep downsizing and downsizing. And that means their prices WILL HAVE TO KEEP GOING UP. And that will ultimately be the end of them. And this is from a Harley owner (my age: mid 50s). Chopper built from an '08 TC 96", LONG front END, high sissybar, apes, and foot clutch and suicide shifter.

Saturday the 10/9/2024 I visited my Sacramento and found the “dealer markup” was near $4,000. The salesman said that reflects the market. The greed and /or management issues is why I’ll keep my 01 softail. I could buy a new car for what they’re asking.

There's a lot of people commenting about the price, but what you get for your money in comparison to what used to be is a magnitude greater. The amount of changes to the newr bikes is an order of magnitude more than they were in the past. That needs to factor in. The bikes today are vastly improved over iron that's older. Of course, there's nothing wrong with the older bikes, I mean we all rode them, but they don't hold a candle to what Harley is producing today. Comparatively, they are reasonably priced when considering the value of a dollar these days. These are truly the salad days.

@@stretchman490 Comparatively, they're still more expensive than their competition and the sales numbers vs competitors are demonstrating this.

I rode sport bikes for many years and I thought I knew how to ride until I bought a touring Harley. I had to learn how to ride a heavy bike it was a very humbling experience being able to do a "willie" on a sport bike but not being able to make a U turn on a heavy bike. Prices high or low if you get a Harley take the Ride Like a Pro classes. I do not get anything out of these comment other than tell Mr. Jerry Thank you. I love my Harley I ride two up with confidence because of his class.

Great video again! I enjoyed it. I am considering putting in an offer on a Pearl white 2024 RG with the blacked out engine and a touring pack for the wife. A little concerned about other associated costs as I am 6ft5 and will need a new seat, possible controls extensions etc.. Oh and an aftermarket exhaust to make it sound like a Harley! I currently ride my '05 RK Classic with the 88 Twin cam, and I love it, but extremely underpowered.
