Those do make a difference in sound, Sportsters tend to have a higher pitch but that gives it a much deeper tone. Can't beat the horsepower and torque gains either, that's some really inexpensive power!

Yeah, depending on the bike and which exhaust it can really make a huge improvement in low and mid range torque. Thanks for the comment. 👍

Hey, GixxerFoo. It's interesting seeing you here, and it's good to see your confirmation about these. I'm getting some for my new 2003 Sportster that I already love the sound of, with the stock pipes. It doesn't go, like my other Sporty that has drag pipes. Maybe this can close that gap, a little, between the two.

Installed the 2 in inserts on my 05 fat boy it's not tuned to the vance and heinz exhaust. Got better response on all gears. I installed the inserts on the exhaust tips. They had enough room to install the inserts without taking the exhaust pipes off. I am very pleased with the out come. I left the baffles on because it was already loud.

I ordered the Thunder Torque inserts for my HD 103 with Shark Road 4" mufflers. Right off after drilling the first hole, I noticed the studs were TOO SHORT to go through the muffler. Couldn't get the flat washer, lock washer and the nut on at all. Their was only enough room for the nut. I know that wasn't gonna work. The installation was NOT the same as the DK video, simple and easy...lol. I was gonna give Kevin a call to see what was WRONG. Instead I went back on line to view a few more videos to see if anyone else had this problem. Luckily, I came across a video by Night King on his M8 2020 Road King Special. It solved my problem. I won't go into his video, just go check it out.. It might have made it a little easier install if the studs were just about a 1/2" to 3/4" longer...
@DKCustomProducts

Yes, as noted in the instructions, some pipes will need a coupler nut to lengthen the stud. HOWEVER, we recently came out with longer stud options for those with bigger diameter pipes. You can see a video on them at this link- kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJLUgad7mKmWi5I This variation does away with the need for a coupler nut, or any other modifications for the larger diameter slip-ons.

I have a sportster 48 with a stage IV and VH shortshots and feel compelled to comment as these are one of the best purchases I’ve made for the bike. I took out the baffles and put in the TTI which took all of 30 minutes. They make the bike better, full stop. There’s no other way to put it. D'ya think that it would be possible to put them into sharkroad fishtails with the tamperproof baffles? Like with long needle nose pliers or whatever.
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts 2 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of Sharkroad, nor of tamperproof baffles. So I went to the Sharkroad website. Appears to be a Chinese knock off company. Here is what they say about baffles - 5. Do these mufflers have a baffle inside? Yes. You can remove them if you require for a louder sound. The manual instruction on how to remove the baffle comes with the exhausts. Of course, with the knock-off companies, and when english is not their first language, it is difficult to know if what they say is accurate on their website. If their site can be trusted, then whatever process gives you access to remove the baffle, that same process will give you easy ability to install the TTI's. If it is not accurate...there is no way to get into the tail end of the round pipe, right before the fishtail...You may be able to slip the TTI in there with some long needle nose. We have never done it, but it may work.

Nice! I was gonna get some bolts to put in my stock pipes, but now I'm getting some of those. I was just looking on the site. I didn't know that there are different ones. I don't know the size of my exhaust; I'll measure it, but if my slip-on pipes are 3 inches, then it seems like it's settled, on which one to get, but if my slip-on pipes are 2 inches, I guess I could go with the ones made for either. Today I made some lollipops with $10.00 worth of stuff from the hardware store. The bike I just bought was popping badly and I chased down some intake leaks using a good quality automotive hose clamp to seal where the carb meets the manifold and also got new intake gaskets but the thing still runs lean. So after I put in the lollipops it ran so much better, only a few pops when cold. I didn't like the change in the sound and it was louder in my ear, being the rider, though I suppose it was quieter from behind. I turned them sideways to see what would happen and it began popping again. What to learn from this? Were the lollipops restricting the exhaust? With a more free exhaust, it's not uncommon to have to jet richer. So what have I learned from this? I just turned them flat ways so I can ride this week while I wait for my bigger jets to arrive, but otherwise I could wish I wouldn't have drilled my slip on mufflers for a lollipop experiment. The change in sound alone makes anything in the exhaust a "no" for me. I will be waiting for my bigger jets as I ride with the lollipops in, as they do certainly serve a purpose at this time. After I re-jet they will be gone.

Yep, lollipops can help, but they provide no where near the benefit or improved sound quality of the patented Thunder Torque Inserts™. So are these essentially putting necessary back pressure back in your exhaust after removing baffles?
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts 2 жыл бұрын
No, the patented shape creates a Venturi Effect, speeding up the exhaust gas velocity. At the same time that it is speeding up the EGV, the cupped part is stopping the energy pulse from traveling back up the pipe. Backpressure slows down exhaust gas velocity. Back pressure robs power and heats up the engine more than needed. Here is a video on the subject- kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqOZq2NmnLFoj8k

@DKCustomProducts

Yes, it makes a significant difference, You want to get as close to the exit end of the pipe as you can, when the energy pulse hits the outside atmosphere, that is when reversion occurs, which is what slows down exhaust gas velocity, which limits the intake charge, which reduces power. Here is a link to a good video explaining...it has an excerpt from S&S showing how the pulse slows down velocity, reducing power. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqOZq2NmnLFoj8k

Is this what is referred to as a lollipop
@DKCustomProducts
@DKCustomProducts 2 жыл бұрын
They are a refinement, or an evolution of the classic lollipop principle that has been around for over half a century. Many years ago we spent countless hours working to see if we could Improve the old lollipop (washer on a bolt) design. We made dozens and dozens of prototypes, all in an effort to reduce reversion without increasing back-pressure. Street Testing and Dyno Testing of hundreds of variations finally evolved to the Thunder Torque Inserts™ seen below. They have a rounded wave shape that makes the exhaust gases flow easily over them on exit, and the cupped shape on the other side catches the reversed pulse wave (reversion), preventing it from traveling back up the exhaust tract. These are Patented due to many unique features. The bottom line is that they create very little to increase back-pressure, and in fact, speed up exhaust gas velocity because of the unique shape. At the same time they reduce reversion. The above was taken from a written report that can be seen at this link- www.dkcustomproducts.com/harley-exhaust-myths-and-facts.htm There is a video that describes the subject here- kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHOTiXeHi897b7s
