Congrats on the FXR! And that Chevelle sounds killer. After building a car, the bike will be a nice treat to build. Thanks for commenting!

Once again, very nice methodical work. The wheels stand out the most to me. I had my Rd King wheels chromed in 1996 and they turned out nice. Was 225 each at the time. Nice looking wiring. It takes a lot of time planning etc. to keep it from looking like a rats nest.
@EngineersGarage13 жыл бұрын
Thanks Kevin! The goal was for the wheels to set off the build. I think it works well with the blue. It was $350 per wheel for me. The wiring is definitely an involved process. Really makes you think a few steps ahead to do it right.

That inner primary bearing has just got to be a better idea than the standard set-up, but I wonder would it not be a better idea if the seal were removed from one side to allow oil in and prolong the bearings life - they don't put much grease in those sealed bearings !
@EngineersGarage13 жыл бұрын
Funny you say that because I stared at it on my workbench debating if I should pull that seal out of it. If this bearing doesn't last I'll give it a shot with the next one!

that raceless inner primary bearing is a setup i want to try on my dyna. could you give us an update sir. ty for the videos!!!
@robertstenang29142 жыл бұрын
Great work and video. Did you have to align the motor and gearbox for the primary fitment? I have reinstalled the motor and gear box on my evo FXR after rebuilding motor and painting the frame, but im a little unsure or scared of not getting it all bolted up correctly. I havent altered the top and front engine mount linkages.

What's the advantage of the twin tec over a thunderheart? I've done my fair share of twin cam fxr builds and never had any issue with thunderheart the canned ignition curve works fine with 96 and 103 twin cams.

Do you know if the rear sprocket are hardened. I bought one and it wore out in 6k miles. I found out most billet sprockets do not go through a hardening process. Be aware is all Im saying.
@EngineersGarage13 жыл бұрын
This sprocket is made from 7075-T6 aluminum. And it's hardened to a brinell hardness of 150. That's higher than most steels. I appreciate it, because you are right most are not hardened. I've been running one on my dyna with no issues or appreciable wear for a few years now.

I’m sure other Mechs have done this but besides my 87 yr the only other guy I’ve seen run the wiring harness through the triangle stamp on the side plate 🤘🏻excellent choice on the exit point on the underside of the backbone. Note taken !👍🏻 Curious of sprocket set up ? 25- 37 pri ? 24 - 51 final ?
@EngineersGarage13 жыл бұрын
I saw one old school full out FXR build that was done back in the 90's where the wiring was ran through there and it stuck with me. Had to do it on mine! I'm running 25-36 primary and 23-55 final. I opted for a more more aggressive ratio since there are no highways with speeds over 55 mph where I live and most of my riding is around town. On the trips out of town I'll be turning 3100 @ 70mph.

what back plate you use to hold your air filter to the carb i have same set up but have trouble
@EngineersGarage13 жыл бұрын
It's the one that came in the Mikuni total kit. So it's a mikuni part. It didn't really line up the best, kinda took some pressure to get it in place.

How did you make the brembo calipers clear the 9 spoke mags ?
@EngineersGarage13 жыл бұрын
Vulcan works makes brake rotor spacers to move the rotors away from the hub. It gives enough room to barely fit the brembos in there, it's tight but works. It's labeled as " timken wheel to 2000-07 39mm front end kit"

Isn't a diaphragm clutch basket a better set up. As you engage a coil spring clutch you lose clamping power to the clutch packs, where as the diaphragm clutch doesn't have that design limitation. Old 1920's design vs modern clutch. I hated coil spring baskets in my panheads after i got the primo/rivera what ever they were called baskets.
@EngineersGarage110 ай бұрын
I think the diaphragm is superior. Really the only advantage of the coil springs in my opinion is the ease of changing the clamping force via spring changes. With coils its easy to fine tune since you can mix springs.
