I felt a sudden need today to come back to this interview; it's an incredible piece of music journalism. You recognized that Joe wasn't into the interview and immediately shifted the format to make him more comfortable. You spoke more softly, opened up about yourself, put away the script, and as a result Joe's demeanor and body language gradually began to open up. Joe doesn't give many interviews to begin with, much less long form video interviews. And even among those, this one feels special because of the emotional honesty on display. I really appreciate the effort you put into this conversation, and I'm glad Joe was willing to meet you half way. I hope he's doing better these days.

The way you always find your way to the same level as the person you’re interviewing. It’s more like watching two people get to know each other. A true artist, difficult to converse and make the description of anything just words, but extraordinary in expression of thought in music to create a picture, set and scene. Many thanks for many years for the great tunes. I listened plenty before divorce after 20 years with my high-school sweetheart, and then again after. I used to go to every Harley Poe show, and I talked to Joe a couple times. I don't understand why the interviewer can't understand that Joe wrote a lot of silly songs, you don't have to delve so deep. The shows were fun. People danced, laughed, smiled, and sang along. That's it. That's what they were about back then. Before the severe depression.
@lil2goboxofficial9934 жыл бұрын
How does the interviewer have no clue as to how to interpret the music? Joe has obviously had his heart broken way too many times in a multitude of ways. The songs and the characters describe multiple hideous facets of himself during his period of grief. He went through divorce, betrayal trauma, probably has a fearful avoidant attachment style ... Oh boy, can I relate. He's a human being, and a creative and passionate one at that. The fact that he even gives a shit about whether he's a good person or not should give you the answer. Seriously. His music, though meaningfully painful and silly at times, has really helped me heal from multiple things weighing down my heart. Even if I'm not a man I can put myself in the shoes of a crossdressing husband that murders his cheating wife and her boyfriend. I can see how someone madly in love can feel so strongly and then flip from being made a fool out of. The zeal for violence in the content of some of the lyrics can be cathartic, like yeah I wouldn't actually do that but I feel you, buddy.

It seems as if you politicized and intellectualized his music too heavily. Not trying to bag on you but i simply believe it would have been beneficial for you to talk with more layman's terms and to realize that with some artists, their art is derived simply from nothing more than their subconscious mind, essentially making the meaning very abstract, unfounded and very much unknown to them. Harley Poe doesn't seem to be the intellectual type or to be a political type. Therefore his music must primarily come from his own life experiences and his individual temperament and not any political leanings or a sense of moral justice. Of course, my comment is open open to interpretation as well, but i truly believe that this is an issue with your interviewing technique and I honestly just want to get the most out of your videos because i think they are pretty awesome and showcase some wonderful talent. That becomes very relevant when Joe tells the interviewer straight up that the song they are talking about is, "really just a dumb song" and not the hidden message about societal bias or whatever it is the interviewer wants so badly to believe. The interviewer is so far up his own ass that he immediately proceeds to tell Joe that his music isn't actually his sole property anymore because he heard it and has an opinion on it. Come on, man. I was pumped to start this video but it really just feels like the interviewer is stroking his own ego and telling his own drawn out stories most of the time. Love me some Harley Poe but this was hard to sit through.
