Good job Captain. Congrats on the transfer and promotion. My Dad was promoted to Engine driver and transfered from Flint Michigan's station 1 to station 7. The food was way better at 7 than as station 1 had crew problems concerning menus and who was doing the cooking. Station 7 overlooked Chevy truck plant 2 on a bluff. Yup, my 6 siblings and I were station brats growing up. Mom would drive us in from our home in the first farm town north of Flint to visit and the crew always treated us kids really nice even letting us sit in the drivers seat or the engine and the pumper. Once a year they'd send all the firefighters kids on busses to see the Detroit Tigers play baseball. Station 7 is now a privately owned residence. My Dad ended up medically retired due to extreme arthritis from winter firefighting. Back then they didn't have self sealing gloves and boots so water would get in at times in the winter. Never a good thing. Do you take your young ones into your house occasionally ?
@CaptainKleeman
@CaptainKleeman 4 жыл бұрын
Ronald Heit privately owned station! I bet that makes for a cool residence. And yeah we bring the the kids past a few times a year. Did you ever get involved in the fire service?
@ronaldheit196
@ronaldheit196 4 жыл бұрын
@@CaptainKleeman No, my Dad was dead set against us kids getting involved in becoming a firefighter. He had PTSD really bad from all the times he was involved in fires where kids and even adults got burned up and other experiences. He also had it from his time in the Navy during WW II. He never talked about that time of bis life. In fact I never knew he'd been in the Navy till I came home from Coast Guard boot camp them Aviation Machinist Mate A school. Back then they didn't have a lot of the safety equipment available today Y'all have today. I can remember when the Scott airpack came out. That was a real lifesaver. They tried to force my Dad and his fellow firefighters to shave their beards which in Michigan's winter weather helps keep your face warm. They claimed the facemask wouldn't seal on the Scott airpack so my Dad and the Union took them to court. The Union bought a clear 6 × 6 smoke chamber into the court room and had my Dad wear one in it to prove their claim was BS. He won so they transfered him to Station 7 as punishment. It backfired on them. He hated working at station 1 as he said it was boot licker central. It was Flints biggest station. A lotta game playing politics he hated. The Station 7 crew were a way better bunch of guys to work with. My oldest brother Mike was a volunteer firefighter up in Alaska. He's 70 know so a few years ago the mandatory retired him. Thank God there's men and women like you who step up and take up the Hose and Ax and fight those fires saving lives. I've always thought firefighters are underpaid. Better these days but still not enough. It's the same with LEO's and Teachers. Underappreciated and underpaid for what you gus do and go thru.

I had many transfers over my career, some promotions, some filling an empty hole that needed to be filled. There was always someone at each assignment that made the job more fun or more exciting and sometimes it was the whole crew that was awesome. I wish I could tell more of the funny stuff that happened but some of the people that were involved are still working and there may be consequences. Lol. I had an awesome 30 year career and wish I could start over and do it all again. Good luck on your new endeavors and stay safe brother.

When did dirt perfect put the weed eater engine in the dump truck. I had to learn how to the run a Harley rake the same way, good thing I owned it, because I took out the gear box on mine. The previous owner had maxed out the slip clutch, worked great after I adjusted it correctly.

Hmmmm... First thing I notice is the new boards on the top of the dump body. Don't recall those being changed (ELITE just changed his). CONGRATS on the 'career' move and I can guess what it is and of course won't talk about it. You are like I was in the 'military' (with the other members). I think because of the training being about the same (one guide book) you'll find no matter where you end up the mindset will be the same and that 'other' member will ALWAYS have your back! Happy for you since you work so hard at it all. Regards! Sonny (CT) PS: I'm back, seems like you've made great friends with that HARLEY RAKE. So glad you and Mike are so tight!

Hope the first shift at your new station went well, you probably had your head buried in the pump learning where everything is stored, there can be so many different variations across a fleet, even though you will operate the same trucks.... In the service I am in we have older Dennis and Volvos, the more recent ones are Volvos, all of them are set up differently..... I hear you talkin about dead ash trees all the time, and it was a huge issue here back then. But it was some of the best morel mushroom hunting most people around here have ever had.. are you experiencing the same thing or do you hunt mushrooms at all?? I don't know how you feel about livestock. I know it's not for everybody , but about 20 goats would make that jungle look like a city park. If you don't believe that do some on line research. You would have to section off plots with a solar fence charger and some temporary fencing , and think of the great videos you could make. Changing situations in the workforce is not easy. Even when one is bettering himself , the co workers you leave behind will always be missed. Another great video , thanks for sharing it.

Any rules about growing ginseng right next to a protected forest? A 10-30 year mature rate on it so you can spread it around the property and in a few years have a nice cash crop ready to collect and sell without doing any damage to the trees. Ginseng, mushrooms and timber can be cultivated and harvested in the same areas without any major disruptions to the others giving you a nice supplemental cash now in mushrooms, in a few years in the ginseng roots and long term any high value timber you want to sell off without looking like a clear cut logging.

Andrew H yeah, Michael Robbins is right, it grows here naturally. BUT it is heavily regulated. They almost treat it as a controlled substance. I’m not sure how much of that I want to mess with. I would have to do a lot of research on it first. But never say never I guess

Do you think that power rake sets up a good bed for new seed? My local rental place has a 3point power rake I can use on my tractor, and I need to prep a big area for seed. Keep up the good work on the videos! Been watching since the beginning!

Earl of all trades absolutely. A three point version is what mike has prior to the skid steer. We would always run that before we did the seed and it seemed to work fairly well.

I was in agreement with the viewer said the tree was a tulip tree. I'm from the west coast and here it's called a tulip tree. Then after you called it a tulip poplar I looked it up, sure enough it is called a tulip poplar. Go figure. Learned something new.

You did well on the Harley Rake. Maybe not up to Dirt Perfect levels 😉 but would have been much better had the excavator operator not left so many roots and branches mixed into the dirt. I guess we’ll have to wait till the end of November to see Dirt Perfect doing the clearing job. 🤣😂🤣😂

Cap’n... my wife had a cat named Harley... he shed hair all over the place. She bought a comb that pulled all the loose hair out before he could deposit it all over the house. I called it her Harley Rake... she liked the name and thought I was clever for calling it that. I never told her where I got the name from.... please accept my apologies for not showing her this video.... I can’t let her know I scammed the name!!! Congrats on landing a career opportunity... can’t wait to see what it is! BTW... I’m working on a YT channel... hence the name change.... Formerly William HARRIS.

Safety chain r on there for one reason. And that is to save life’s. If your trailer comes off going down the road with the way u hooked them up it will fall down on the road and if it jams in it can flip your truck or it can come off and cross the road and kill somebody . If u crisscross the the trailer will fall on the chains

I think your under estimating your self when it comes to felling that oak tree. You seem to take your time and make good notches and leave good hinges, plus you under stand the difference in the trees and the tops.
