Cap’n... it is better to give than to receive... my dad used to preach that to us when we were kids. I thought it was because we were poor and he was making excuses for not buying us everything we wanted. However, we lived on a farm. Neighbors always needed help. He would always bring me along to help them mend fence, change a motor in their old pickup, clear brush, etc. I didn’t mind because I liked spending time doing that stuff... we never thought it was special... it was just what we did. Then I grew up and moved to town, went to college and worked full time in a steel mill. I got mighty stingy with my free time. Eventually, I married a woman who was a tireless giver. It didn’t matter how tired or busy she was... she always had time to help someone or give, what she could, to one in need. Eventually, we bought our first house. It was right across the alley from neighbor Donnie... the best housewife on the block! To say that he was inept at anything mechanical would be akin to declaring that that a chicken’s pecker is its beak! Obvious! At any rate, I took Donnie under my wing. He had no money, a crumbling house, an old beater for transportation and two kids that spent half their lives playing with my daughters. We didn’t have a lot of money either... but, I found that I had a lot of time... so, I started ‘helping’ him fix things around his place. What I re-learned was how much I enjoyed watching him get excited about the easiest accomplishments. You see, my dad had told me and showed me many times... but, it took a friend in need to actually teach me that, “It IS better to give than receive.” Cap’n, watching you, Mike, Aaron and others in your community has convinced me that the lesson Donnie taught me is not a ‘one off’. Please keep showing just how well that works in practice... there’s a whole bunch of folks that need to learn that lesson!!!

I got an adjustable hammer from my Dad years ago. Unfortunately it’s left handed since he’s the only lefty in the family because he burned his hand on the wood stove when he was a kid growing up in Newfoundland with a view of France from the front door. But as the old saying goes. Everything is a hammer. It’s great to see you return the favor to someone like Bill that appears to be a very giving person himself. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
@CaptainKleeman4 жыл бұрын
Wayne Crews you’re right about that! Everything is a hammer, but the irony is a hammer can only be a hammer... and I’m curious about your dads stove story.
@Crewsy4 жыл бұрын
Captain Kleeman I think he was about 4 or 5 (so mid 1930’s) and he put his hand on the stove to see if it was hot like his mom warned him about and to stay away from it. I guess his palm was burned and blistered bad enough that he started to use his left hand and just kept using it. One day when I was still living at home we talked about using your non dominant hand and he could write nearly as well with his right hand as his left. Closest I’ve ever seen anyone that would be considered ambidextrous. As for seeing France from his front door there are a couple little islands just off the coast where he grew up that belong to France called St. Pierre and Miquelon. Where he lived was about as close as you could get without getting wet. Interesting area to grow up with prohibition but not on the French Islands.

I have one of those Tyre changers. They come in handy, save time and money. Bolted to the ground would have saved 90% of your effort. Even bolt it to a pallet, the pallet weight and your weight would have made it more stable. As for fitting the tyre, you were using the wrong end of the bar. Half your battle with those 4 wheeler tires is that HF tire changer isn't bolted down so you can get the torque you need to pop the rim rubber off then back on. It was almost comical watching you wrestling with it. Almost painful. My Wife was looking at me funny as I was commenting to myself as tho you could actually hear me. But she's pretty much used to that. Or she'd be calling the guys with that special jacket and the rubber room. I hope one day DP bolts that bloody thing down. It is a good toll if one can use it properly. Nice job paying it forward. My Mom installed that in all of us kids growing up and still did until it was her time to go to heaven. It's such an awesome feeling when you help someone else. Especially someone who's been there for you in the past.

Ronald Heit that would have helped, it’s just hard to justify the time of bolting something like that down when a guy only uses it once every couple years. But he did talk about making a more stable base for it sometime in the future

smokin truker that one is because of the coupler. Thts normally the first thing to wear out, the quick couplers. Honestly the whole machine is incredibly tight except for the coupler, doesn’t slow us down any.

Kirk Rogers we had some soap and water in a bottle we were spraying on it. Never too much lube.
