I rode an Electra Glide for many years and was a very proud Harley guy. On a recommendation of a co-worker, I rode a 2017 BMW R1200RT and my motorcycle world changed. The power, handling, brakes, suspension, heated seats and grips, the ride modes, electric windshield....just SUPERB. No more Harleys for me and the heat, weight, weak performance and borderline retarded maniacal culture surrounding them. I sold the Electra Glide immediately and an equally horrible GL1800 Goldwing (beastly, wobbly, horrendously heavy). You ride a Harley and you're a "biker", you ride a BMW, you are a motorcyclist. That boxer engine is simply amazing. That old engine design pulls like a tractor and can seriously wind up the revs. The wind protection of the RT is amazing. You can be doing 90mph and not even feel it. The test ride caught me by surprise....wow I'm going hella fast! No wonder so many police agencies equip with them. You can be in the saddle on them all day and chase down speeders with ease. I rode a GS as well and it's just a bit too tall for me and I need a truly road optimized machine for my commuting needs so, I'm a totally happy RT rider now. Nice review!

Borderline retarded? You are being too nice 😂 I love my 2022 RT. Added a 2022 Road Glide to the mix last year and couldn’t stand it. And their culture is the most ignorant thing ever. How can everyone blindly defend such crappy bikes? I guess they are willing to overlook all of the flaws in order to feel macho. I picked up a 2022 GS to add to my RT and I am loving both machines. I owned 2 RTs in America and loved them for 10 years and I’m now awaiting delivery of my first GSA. Can’t wait. Loved his video and chucked each time he did knowing he was having so much fun. Back in the States, I’ve found Harley riders to have a huge stigma of purchasers of status and being polishers rather than riders. So I’m curious of what the GSA stigma is here in the left hand driving side of the world?

When you choose a bike you choose an experience. I rode Harleys for 20 years and am now 62 with 27k on a GSA within 2 years, 23k with my wife on the back. My wife thought a Harley Ultra was comfortable until she tried the GSA, so the Harley was sold and I’m now we’re completely Adv planning our 3rd Euro trip for next summer since the pandemic. If you’re around my age and riding Harleys for a long time, try a different experience before you look back and wish that you had. 8 of us met through HOG and all of us now have ADV bikes, 4 of the guys still have their `Harley’s in the garage all bought and paid for but to be honest they ride the adv bikes 90% of the time and one of them has just bought the new GS1300. I've had a HD Sport Glide with the Milwaukee8 107 for a while now. Test rode the 2023 R 1250 GS Trophy ( in USA, I believe it''s the TE model in GB) and went back the next morning and bought it. I don't care about what people think, riding a BMW, of me. There's a reason it's one of the best selling bikes in the BMW lineup. The way it rides and everything else about the bike. I've ridden my Sport Glide once since buying the BMW, and I'm pretty sure I'll be putting it up for sale shortly. BMW Motorcycles of Ventura County, CA, had one on the show floor, year end sale, made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Absolutely the most low key sales people there. Sit on a bike, and then they'll come talk to you. No pressure at all. BMW has had 5 or 6 years of production of this model bike, to iron out all the problems to avoid warranty issues.

As a 1250GSA owner (and previously a 1200GS owner), I couldn't see myself with anything else that is so utilitarian. I have commuted on it, toured on it, day trips, weekend trips, etc. I need to get some unpaved experience under my belt to take it on trails/tracks. As far as filtering, I have no issue filtering in London City traffic. If you have very good spatial awareness and are comfortable with knowing the width of the bike, you will be surprised how much filtering you can do! The only downside is the cleaning - there are so many nooks and crannies where the dirt goes that to give it a good clean takes a good few hours. The only other bike I wouldn't mind having for breakfast run laughs is a Fat Boy w/ Screamin Eagle Stage 2.

The stigma of ownership seems to be perpetuated by the mindless. When I bought my first GSA (now on my 3rd) I soon realised that lots of (not all) other motorcyclists refused to acknowledge me on the road, as well as the looks of disdain when I arrived at certain locations. Before I owned my first GSA I rode nothing but out and out radical sports bikes. I first rode sports bikes long before they were fashionable, back in the mid 80’s and through the years I wouldn’t entertain anything else. It’s funny how other motorcyclists always acknowledged me when I was out on whatever sports bike I had, waved, nodded, etc, as if they either knew me, or in some way just wanted to demonstrate their belonging to a cool fraternity. I’ve been a fan of motorcycles and have ridden them since I was 9 years old, I’ve had a race license and done club racing, I’ve been a track day instructor and have loved everything about motorcycles and motorcycling for more decades than I care to about. My last sports bike was a BMW S1000RR and it’s only because the dealership gave me a GS as a courtesy bike that it all happened! The timing was good, I’d done my sports bike thing (35 years of it), the road culture has changed, more traffic, crap surfaces and all that, I liked motorcycles but the itch to hurtle around on a sports bike had been well and truly scratched… I needed a different type of bike, which is where the well timed courtesy bike came in. I now tour (not in the UK) freely and effortlessly, I can see the scenery (it’s not quite as blurry as it used to be 😂) and the novelty of carrying luggage was brilliant. I test rode many other machines but the GSA was the one, it just did everything and although some people think it’s ugly, I quite like it’s quirkiness… it’s as though it could be a piece of military equipment. The sad thing is, the way some motorcyclists have this narrow minded view of it and then actually act it out - there’s definitely some psychology going on there! I’m still me, I’m still a died-in-the-wool motorcycle fan but I no longer care if I’m ignored by other motorcyclists. If only they knew! The reason I’m writing this is for those who haven’t tried, or gone the GS way yet; don’t be put off by a daft stigma. For those who already own GS’s, we know…. I’ll continue enjoying riding my GSA and will continue to enjoy seeing any other brand of motorcycles, including Harleys - my brother-in-law was a member of a ‘proper’ chapter and we both appreciate each other’s choice of steed. I just like bikes! We can’t all like the same things. We need variety and variation. It’s interesting how this stigma doesn’t really exist on the south side of the English Channel? 🤔
@laceyunderall6810 ай бұрын
The GS does everything well. There’s a reason they’re so popular. The “GS reputation” is largely based on ignorance from those who haven’t ridden them. Sure I proudly go to Starbucks often on it , but I’ve also pushed the bike to its limits on outback roads circumnavigating Australia 3 times 😊

Your choice. I'm sorry I didn't take heed sooner. From the moment I wake up to the moment I finally fall asleep, this is what I hear in both ears. ALL THE FRICKEN TIME! Why would you want to look through the windshield in the rain? Then you have raindrops on your face shield raindrops on your windshield possibly both sides of both, put that damn windshield down and look over it in the rain.

Curious - seems like a significant amount of shaming/stereotyping surrounding ADVs and specifically the GS’ in the UK. In the States, not so much. Bottom line: if you are a Motörhead and appreciate the engineering qualities of said vehicle - Who Gives a Shit? Plus, when I’m riding, whether the GS, Bonnie, or POC Chinese Apollo .., I can’t hear anybody and again, DGAS - at least we are riding. It’s a great bike. PS: why are Harley riders incapable of waving? At least, that seems to be evident in the States. Same in UK/EU?
@NicTheRip2 ай бұрын
exactly that man! Their are a few too many that just think they are too cool to wave - Nobody is too cool to wave. I don't hate people that don't wave, but its nice when people do.

Hilarious - A Harley rider refusing to ride a bike because of the "image" associated with it.
@NicTheRip10 ай бұрын
Yeah unfortunately there are images associated with all types of bikes, when i first started riding, it was easy to listen to them! But as im experiencing more motorcycles I am just sad that there are these"images" because at the end of the day, we all bikers! All love riding and thats how it should stay :) Been lovely being able to experience all these different types of bikes. Having more and more conversations with bikes i meet that have these worrys that they should just say F it and just ride whatever they like! Anyway, as time goes on we get a little wiser dont we haha, i still have lots more wising up to do haha Stay safe and keep well man :)

@NicTheRip10 ай бұрын
No, I gave the harley sportster as an example of something that has handling that I would say is bad floppy and the GS is good floppy, no where else did I compare it haha Have tried the Pan Am, very nice bike. Need to ride it again soon Keep well :)

You drove the GSA. Once you go GSA you never go back😂... Imagine you had tried the Enduro pro mode in the driving mode. ..man you would have the full uncut power...lifting front wheel is easy! That bike has the seat in the lower position. It has 2 hights. But also you can lift the hight of the entire bike. Just ask the sales person.

@@NicTheRip Don't try Enduro and Dynamic modes until the engine is fully broken in. Treat the motor and drive train right, during the break in process. Wait until after the 1st oil change at 1000 km. 5000 rpm max, during the break in process, read your owners manual fully.
