Great update and public service to those that have those crash bars. I also set my 13" legends on the Road Glide Special at 12 1/4 sag. I did so just for the times when I may have more on the bike that just me on trips or day trips. Thanks for sharing and ride safe.

Dude thank you so much for this video. I have been driving myself nuts trying to figure out what I have been bottoming out on after installing a set of super shox. I'm glad the issue isn't exactly my shocks, but annoyed I have to take off my crash bar and grind it down. Setting up shocks at a stiffer setting kinda defeats the purpose of having premium shocks.
@FLYANDRIDE15 Жыл бұрын
Glad I could help. Yeah man, I love the look of these bars but bummer they have to be grinded down. If you do, should resolve your issue though

Looking at santoro vs sbc the sbc actually has a stepped bracket. Looks like it pulls the bar out of the way. Good thing i came across this video.

Yep.... Looks like its still not fixed.... I was one of the 1st to run those bars. At the time the lower mount tab was squared off and I was worried at 1st look on install. I had 13" Progressives at the time. It hit same place hard 1st ride. I called them out on it and told them that square lower tab is no good. I asked them for either another set and I told them to round off that mount tab flush with the bar or do it to my set and repowder coat. Im local in So Cal so I showed up in person and told them exactly how I wanted it fixed. They modified a new set and powdercoated them. Supposedly they were going to make all sets rounded off for the future sets. Your sag isnt the issue, its a clearance issue and youll always have the issue. You will always have the issue unless you run longer shocks. Even with the tabs rounded I still had issues on bottoming with the 13" Progressives. Mine is a performance build and I ride it hard. Im now running 14" Ohlins on my bagger, with same bars all these years and thats the only way youre going to alleviate 100%.
@FLYANDRIDE155 ай бұрын
@@highwayman1218 thx man. I was able to lower it myself and issue resolved.
@highwayman12185 ай бұрын
@@FLYANDRIDE15 Hmm maybe it was the Progressives, but with them dialed in 100% the swingarm would still hit even the rounded lower tabs when I bottomed riding hard, it was dangerous. Personally I'd make 100% sure by pulling the springs, dropping it down and see if it still hits fully bottomed. You shouldn't have to have preload jacked up so high to avoid bottoming and lose both travel and usable suspension to avoid contact, which you might be doing to avoid contact.

This is Amazing because I wish I had seen this before I changed my suspension. I know Harley suspension sucks but I was wondering why all of a sudden I was, well, what I thought, bottoming out. I change my suspension and it is certainly much better.... So fast forward.... I flip thought my subscriptions and notice you had posted this.... Well let me tell you, I am relieved to find out the same thing happened to me.... I just went outside and checked my swing arm and same shit.... Now I don't have the Santoro, I have the Amazon knock offs hundreda cheaper but same thing..... And these are doing it as well...... I would have saved myself 1000 on suspension shocks..... But thanks for the video....

That would seem to be an engineering flaw of the bars, this should not happen no matter what the rear shocks were set too. Not enough R&D went into the design. Great informative video.👍

Are the Santoro crash bar mounting that much different from a stock crash bar? I have ohlins rear shocks and they need to be adjusted properly when my wife rides with me so was it just a matter of a mis adjusted shock and not the bars? I guess I don't understand what the root cause was!! Peace!!
@FLYANDRIDE15 Жыл бұрын
Root cause is the way these are engineered, you have to have the suspension exactly Aligned to bother riders if not, it bottoms out.

I just installed these bars on my RG CVO. The same thing happened, where the bars hit the swing arm. I have Ohlins suspension and never ride with a passenger.
