This video got me out of a pinch yesterday. Stopped to fill up for gas and bike wouldn't start. Same thing strong turnover when trying to start just wasn't getting fuel. Wouldn't bump start. So I called a tow truck and started googling things for when i got it home. Found this video. tried swapping relays heard fuel pump turn on. there was a slight hill behind the gas station. got it started by bump starting it. cancelled the tow truck and rode it home! thank you for sharing this video!

Same thing happened to me except the guy on a trike pulled up and took off the positive terminal cable after having it off for a few seconds put it back on and it started up. It died again a little ways down the highway and I had to redo that and it got me home. I'm hoping it's a relay and an easy fix

Thanks for the video I have a 2006 sportster custom 1200 sportster but I don’t have your injection but hopefully I won’t break down But sometime I’m gonna actually have to really check out my fuse box and see what they really do rather main fuses and maybe to get a couple spares thanks for the video

my bike cranks hard but the fuses are all good, and relay is a bit red w rust but scraped a bit to show bare metal and still nothing. i smell fuel, so it may not be fuel lines, maybe it is my crank sensor? bike is 1200 sportster 06

Its worth replacing the relay anyways and adding some dye electric grease to each fuse to prevent rusting on all of them. Check all your connections and make sure your fuel pump is priming right and is functional. Perhaps try giving it a good push start and see if she fires up. Past this your issue can be a variety of things and it may be best to visit a shop. If you figure it out post a video so others who have the same problem can fix their sportys. Thanks!

thank you for the great video! i am going to try. I have a 2006 sportster 1200 custom. For some unknown reason lately when I go to start it up as soon as I hit the starter button on the handlebar it looses ALL power. Like, zero power. Sometimes it will come back and sometimes it just wont. I dont know if I have a fuse issue or battery or what. When the power is on everything works perfectly. It is either 100% working electrical or zero power. wtf

Thanks for tuning in. Quite a unique issue. If the bike powers on and other switches work (headlights, horn, etc) its probably not a battery issue but id put it on a battery maintainer just in case. I recommend Noco products, I use the Noco Genius one and I bought the X connector SAE adapter for it for easy plug in with the Harley’s stock charging port. I suspect you may have an issue with the switch itself. Due to the intermittent-ness of the issue the switch may be going out and perhaps its toggling between ON and OFF position against your will when pressed. Just my theory. Id start with knocking the easy stuff out of the way like checking battery, checking fuses, checking grounds, etc then once you’ve done all of that, consider searching forums or posting a vid of your issue on a harley sportster forum or Facebook group. 👍🏻

I've got that same problem. It usually does it if I start it within 10 minutes after shutting it off. It either does that or the starter skips and it seems like the motor turns backwards. Every time I stop for gas I'm dealing one of those issues and tbh, it's a little embarrassing smh.

I haven't got it yet but I think that is my problem. I took off on my bike after work got almost a mile down the road and died. I had to push it all the way back home. Hope it works. Your bike is sweet.

I learned long ago if its unfixable . .. may just bring it into dealer and let them plug a $0.15 cents fuse in and pay the $200.00 service charge for a fix and keep it a secret . . .

So I was riding home from work. I think I was really low on gas and oil never notice. It died out of no where. Re filled oil and gas and I tried to start it then it had a rapid clicking noise. I jumped it with my car had it connected for 3 minutes it turned on but I would have to hold the throttle. Also my back brakes all of a sudden became soft and my speedometer didn’t come on while I was riding.

Trinidad Salinas Sometimes start fine and on occasion it would cut out while riding and be dead. If I turned the key and pressed the switch on and off and on real fast it would turn on in a pinch.

Mine was doing the same ...long story short I figured out it was the system relay switch in the fuse block I cleaned it up from the corrosion it developed runs like a champ now

carlos midence Yup! Be careful though as it can get worse over time. My bike was having a hard time starting and then eventually just died while riding. Very weird issue. Change your fuse anyway its like $5.

Its another issue, I would look at battery cables, all fuses, etc. Start simple then gradually move towards more complex. More often than not, its the simple things.

I have an older, 94 Sportster, mine would start and run but lose power, engine, electrical, not all the way but had to idle for a few and it would come back, found the main power relay, more of a breaker, 50 amp, the contacts were a bit loose, found it when I was changing the battery, cleaned and tightened the connection's, no more problem

My lights arent even coming on i put it on a charger lights came on tried to start it while on the charger wouldnt start still rode it all morning then stoped at a store half mile from home went in came out wouldn't start had to push it home my car just broke down to fml
