I just had a built crank fail on a 117 Twin Cam. The right side bearing had walked enough such that it was proud of the case about .030" Two little button head screws were still holding it in.

There are so many people offering alternatives for the standard mains that it is confusing the choice, when my twin cam was rebuilt into a 113 inch monster the builder just used the famous 'Lefty' bearing in both cases. There was no evidence of either side original bearing having moved or 'galled' despite over 65k miles of use most of which was with enhanced power via big-bore (103 inch) and fairly high (10.3 : 1) compression and S&S 585 cams giving just over 100bhp. But then I always warm my bikes before riding 'enthusiastically' and never abuse the bike by doing wheelies or burnouts - if I rode like that then I would expect problems !
