Harley Wheel bearing replacement

How to Replace a FAILED wheel bearing.
The bearings on this Harley Davidson Dyna completely blew up and came apart leaving nothing for the puller to grab.
Was able to remove the failed bearing using the scrap parts and installed new bearings in the wheel.

I Tap in the last mm with the installer plate on the bearing to snug it up to the sleeve. I got tired of over tightening ,then having to pull it back(not good)

I did mine on a 01 E.G rear. Man , they didn't wanna come out. Better have some arms on ya when messing with old stuff. Lol

I just bought the same puller. It was like $43 so I was hoping it worked!! Looks like it does!! I'm just hoping that I don't have to take the belt pulley off. I'm scared to break something like shearing a bolt!! Hey at least I know the tool works!! Good video. Easy to understand. Except when pulling bearing you said something was inserted on the other side. Trying to figure out what, since I have the same puller and the directions are too hard for my old eyes to see!!

At 4:35. It says hold that Allen from the other side. That's what I'm not understanding . Thanks if you could explain.

The tappered bolt that spreads the collar has a 3/8" allen socket. You use an allen socket on an extension from the other side to hold the tappered bolt

I suggest removing the sprocket. The tool might not reach with it on. Plus the bolts can expand the hub and make the bearing tighter in the bore. If the bolts don't come loose try heating them up with a torch. Good luck you got it

​@@sideyardmechanic Thank you again!! Figures. Lol. More work. More money!! Well at least new bolts , washers and blue thread lock isn't too expensive. Some people say you can reuse the old bolts but I don't know if that is a good idea or not!! Thank you for your help!!

I’ve found all those sealed bearings need to be greased because they don’t have enough greave in them

Years ago I had a coworker that would remove the seals and service the bearings by packing good grease in the sealed wheel bearings every so often. Not a bad idea.

yes they do, every time I get my tire changed, I pop off the dust cover on both sides and repack the bearing, going on 18 years with the same bearings
