Harman Dayal made a good point about Guentzel - as a pending UFA, the only thing the Canucks need to worry about is the money. There are no assets that the Canucks need to give up to get him (unless they want to trade a mid-round pick to the 'Canes for two weeks of exclusive negotiating rights, which was rumoured to be happening). Put him with Petey, and then have someone who is physical and mobile play on the other wing, and this line is going to be lethal! The issue I have with Hronek is I am not certain how much the production he and Hughes had together did he contribute towards. As great as Hughes is evolving to be, I think even an average RD can be made very, very good if not great. Luke Schenn did extremely well with Hughes for a moment and that was before Hughes' Norris season this year... In the playoffs Hughes and Hronek were pushed around and had become a lot less effective, and that's a red flag to me.

1. Yes, Guentzel would just be about money and not assets being moved, but it would be a lot of money for another 29 year old player. They could put themselves right back in cap hell if they're not careful. 2. Hronek will want way too much money and if injury really wasn't a problem, he has a lot to answer for in terms of his play and production in the 2nd half, when I think they intentionally tried him without Quinn Hughes and he struggled. Even in the playoffs with Hughes, he was a non-factor. For $8 million, especially long term, I want to know what I'm getting. If they can get back significant assets for him, move him. Yes, he's a top 4 right shot D, but I'd rather they look to guys like Tanev and Pesce, who will cost less per player and get you 2 top 4 defensemen instead of one. It's about maximizing the cap at this point.

@@christhornycroft3686 I am worried about cap hell that the Canucks would put themselves into... I guess the question management needs to ask themselves is, is Guentzel the guy that would get the Canucks over the hump? If winning a Cup means cap hell after, I think many Canucks fans may actually want to see that happening. I am very uncomfortable committing to Hronek long-term. His performance in the second half and the playoffs worry me, and I also wonder how much of the production of the Hughes-Hronek pairing in the first half was Hronek's doing, or if it was strictly Quinn Hughes doing Quinn Hughes things to make his partner look better. Since he is a RFA, I actually would prefer trading away Hronek and signing Zadorov (if the money is right) instead.

It's worth noting that Hronek was injured during the playoffs. With that being said, he's not worth 8 million per year

What is speedy? Put every player in a oval race the difference is a second at most. You mean you want a player who carries the puck while skating fast like Bure. All players are fast in the NHL.😅

Hmm that’s interesting, because none of the Canucks forwards could blow past ANYONE in the playoffs. The best skater on the team is Lafferty, a 4th liner…

@kevinVersus exactly speed is overated it's body size n power that matters.

They also need to skate without the puck. Getting into position to defend. Getting to open areas for scoring chances ... it's not a one dimensional stat

Zadorov would have been a better partner in the playoffs, to rock a few of those guys hitting Hughes. That slew foot by Kane behind the Canucks net deserved immediate action
@bshoulder5 ай бұрын
@@dougstewart3243 Zadorov is a LHD like Hughes, and I think he has stated that he is uncomfortable playing LD. Soucy did play RD before, and I think pairing Zadorov and Soucy would be a very physically scaring group to put out there... If Hughes can make Luke Schenn look great, I think there would probably be a RD somewhere who can be all right with Hughes.

@@bshoulder He likes the RD it's Tocchet that doesn't want lefties on the right side. Zadorov has played there before. Soucy doesn't need Big Z to be scary.
