Definitely worth all the sweat! You put in! I appreciate what you’ve done here. I didn’t know why every time I played I was getting no sound in my 5 hole on the draw, so hearing your reference pitch I could tell something wasn’t right. So I took the thing apart and fiddle with the metal tabs on the inside and they were rust shut on some of them and Misbent on others, so after some adjustments I can now play “in the jungle”!! Props my brother!! And I applaud you too, Eunice! Your abilities are astounding!!! Keep up the good play!!!

Hey Luke .. Sorry for the many question .. !!! it is normal for a beginner to have a sort of feelings on the lip where you put and slide the armonica? I'm practicing every day.. maybe a hour .. and i notice some feelings to my lips .. not pain not bad feelings but some i will call "scrub". .. that's normal... anyway .. i'mm beginning to be able to isolate notes .. thanks to you ,,,
@Harmonicacom3 жыл бұрын
Ask away, my friend. Congrats on beginning to be able to isolate notes! Yes, that's normal to have the lips feel a little chaffed after playing for an hour. Depending on the harmonica you're playing, some are more comfy on the lips than others. Plastic combs are more comfortable than wooden combs. Cover plates that hide the reed plates completely are more comfortable than ones that have the reed plates a little exposed. If you're interested in considering purchasing a different harmonica, here is my article about brands: www.harmonica.com/which-harmonica-to-buy/

Why are all the blows lower than draws until you hit 7 and then it flips? How do harmonicas work for that to be the case?
@Harmonicacom3 жыл бұрын
Hey Brett - great question! Harmonicas are tuned this way so that we can get a C major chord when we blow, and then a G7 chord when we draw holes 1-6. There are LOTS of alternate tunings that are becoming more and more popular. If you're interested in exploring them, you can check out this forum thread: forum.harmonica.com/t/different-tuning-harmonicas/5989?u=luke A lot of the alternate tunings still have this switch between holes 6 and 7, but not all of them. It's just something we have to get used to. Hope that helps. Rock on, Luke

What’s 1st position? Don’t understand positions.
@Harmonicacom Жыл бұрын
Positions are confusing at the beginning and take time to understand. But the gist of it is: 1st position means using a C harmonica to play a song in the key of C. 2nd position means using a C harmonica to play a song in the key of G. The root chord for 1st position is 123 (or blowing anywhere on the harmonica) and the root chord for 2nd position is -234 (but -1 is also in the chord.) To get a little more insight on 1st vs 2nd positions, click here. You can also hear the difference here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGPEoJ6Gbayln6s

4 and 5 are smooth but when i get to 6 it gets harder to get a clean note and 7 really hard . is that just how it is or is my cheap harp not helping
@Harmonicacom Жыл бұрын
Everybody struggles with high notes, ESPECIALLY at the beginning.👌🏼 -7, -8 are the most frequent ones that REALLY trip people up, but anything above 6 can prove problematic! Remember to be patient with yourself. This may take some time... These are the tips for a getting good clean high notes. 1.) Let gravity lower your jaw so that it's totally relaxed and in a nice "aw" vowel shape, your teeth should be far apart from each other 2.) Keep the back of your tongue down, like it is when you yawn. Make sure it's not in the "Kk" zone (how your tongue is when you say a "Kk" consonant.) 3.) Nice steady, GENTLE, airflow. Most beginners (and many intermediate and advanced players) use WAY to much pressure. Hope that helps! 😎 Aloha, Luke

But never was able to get as serious as I'd like to be due to the fact I've had arthritis from a young age so can only play for tops 1 hour then just couldn't , Would just be frustrated and even the next day my wrist would be inflamed and very stiff, then a my grandfather passed about 3 months ago not covid just old age any way he had a tremelo harmonica and then started messing around just bought and has arrived my first real Horner's key C Harp .so basically just thank you Really getting obsessed with blues and no arthritis pain playing harp thanks again. Hey Greg - thanks for the note, man. Yeah, actually I started on guitar as well, I started playing harmonica around 16 or 17, but then got really serious with it after getting repetitive stress syndrome in my left index finger (from over-practicing) which prevented me from being able to play guitar. Never knew how easy it can be to learn how to play the harmonica. I will be starting when I get my set of harmonicas tomorrow. I've "tinkered" with a couple of them before. But, have never had my own to play. Am just going to be playing for fun and to have something to do with some of my spare time when I'm not in the mood to paint, do needlecrafts, etc. Also, I'm a 52 YO lady who loves doing many different crafts. And, I've often wanted to learn how to play the harmonica. Specially the theme song to "The Walton's" because I always loved watching that series as a child. Is there any way you could make a video on how to play that theme song. I'd appreciate it so much if you can. Keep your videos coming for us all, please. And, thank you so much for this one. It has made me unafraid to "pick up" and add a new talent to my repertoire. 😉

Does this work with a G harmonica?
@Harmonicacom Жыл бұрын
Yes, but it won't sound good playing along with me. You should consider getting a C since beginner lessons are all C. Here's my article on brands: www.harmonica.com/which-harmonica-to-buy/

Good theory and knowledge of the harmonica. I now understand some of the intervals on the instrument. Thank you.

This is a Good place to start. I play “ o suszanna “ with this scale. Pick out a bunch of different tunes on this scale to get it in your memory bank.

Thanks for this video!!!!!!! I was wondering if you would know where I could find help to play the melodica. It's a vintage one where the keys are on either side
@Harmonicacom4 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome. I don’t have any references for you for melodica lessons.

Its so hard to bend notes. Play major notes is so easy for us in indonesia coz the same as our tremolo harmonica
@Harmonicacom4 жыл бұрын
Yes, bending isn’t a beginner technique. That’s why I’m dealing here with the part of the harmonica where you can play the major scale without bending.
