Yep. And watching the songs being played, some are played at eighth notes, sixteenth notes, even carrying on for two full count notes. Very varied, but that's what makes playing to The Stones is so cool. These songs being played on a C harp can be played the exact same way as on a C chromatic harmonica. I prefer using a Tenor C chromatic. On a standard C chromatic, those two high notes, 11 & 12 are terrible to hear. But with a C chromatic harmonica, you won't ever get that. Even a Low C harmonica like on a Hohner, Seydel, Suzuki, or even a Lee Oskar is the best option, IMO.

I learned the Miss You tune from your page and then listened to the original recording. I found that if I adapt what I learned to a G harp for the intro and then switch to D for the solo it sounds to my ears closer to the recording.
@Harmonicacom Жыл бұрын
Yeah, Sugar Blue played a D harmonica for the whole thing. But G harp in 3rd position is easier for main riff. 👍🏼

Hi Luke ! Really good video ! I started on the harmonica a few months ago. About Sweet Virginia, I tried with my harmonica key of A, and I think your tabs sounds better with this one. What do you think ?
@Harmonicacom Жыл бұрын
It'll work with any key harmonica. Lower tuned harmonicas sound sweeter. I believe the original is A, so that's the one for playing with the record.
@meetontheledge1380 Жыл бұрын
It's an A harp in first position, the way I recall. Those high end blow bends are pretty sweet.

You're welcome. It's my pleasure, Elliot! Ya I think I mentioned that in Level 4 cos it's a similar riff to what he plays on the live version of Midnight Rambler from Maddison Square Garden 1969. Here's an excerpt from my website on the subject: I could listen to that riff all day, and in fact the -2” bend is also at the heart of what Mick Jagger is playing around 2:00 into Gimme Shelter on the version from the 1969 album Let It Bleed. He’s playing it on an F# harmonica. -2” -2 -2 -2 -2 -2” -2 -2 -2 -2” -2 -2 -2 www.harmonica.com/rolling-stones-riffs-the-5-levels/

Hey Luke! I have some questions. Have you ever tried Hohner's Silverstar Harmonica? I bought it as a beginner, but I think that I can't bend on it. Do you know its bendability? Also, what do you think about Harley Benton harmonicas? I see they're quite cheap and I read some good reviews.
@Harmonicacom Жыл бұрын
Hey I'm so sorry I'm not familiar with either of those harmonicas. But if you wanna make sure your bending difficulties are not gear-related, I'd save up for a Special 20 or Lee Oskar as those are the easiest to bend in my opinion.
@reedbender1179 Жыл бұрын
Mate,the Hohner silver star is what I call a back up harp,being cheap (Chinese manufacture?) you can have a couple for reserve if the better quality and more expensive (Hohner made in Krautland )blow out a reed when doing a gig. 😨OK to learn on,but the sooner you get a higher quality harp the better you will sound.😎 Regarding bending or draw notes on the silver star,compare it to a Volkswagon and a Porsche (with the same company owner) on a race track....the silver star will get you to the finish line...eventually...maybe...usually...sort of 😂....but just keep playing and experimenting my friend that's what counts...if you want some laid back fun harp check out Juzzie Smith also. ✌

Doest a third position riff in a second position song take you into a different key ?
@Harmonicacom3 ай бұрын
Yes & No. This question doesn't have a quick answer. Yes: Playing 3rd position on a C harp means you're playing in the key of D, and most often it's D minor (though it is possible to play in D major, which people usually call "3rd position major.") So 3rd pos is often used to play on a minor tune - like a C harp for D minor. No: When you're playing in 2nd pos in the key of G, the V chord is D, so 3rd pos licks sound great in this context, but they don't actually "take you into another key." Hope that helps more than it hurts lol!
@Tom-xn8nn3 ай бұрын
Thanks for the reply . My interpretation of your answer in simple form is that in second position you can go to to third position but only for a specific note that also exists in the key of the second position
