I do love these book talks! Simone your really hit the nail "makes you feel a bit dirty". This is exactly how so many of us are feeling right now, in this world. We have not moved on at all, we just thought we had and the dirty feeling comes from realising how "duped" we all have been by those super rich and powerful. 👏🏽👏🏽. And so informative too. I had no idea about the Tsunami in New Finland, Granted I have only lived here for 50 years and in Ontario at that, but my partner who is generations Canadian never heard of it either. And the radioactive Mine as well. I have to find out more. Cheers all of you. Excellent Episode! And I have to say this is really a wonderful way to have a vlog - knitting and books, Yay!

@@osmia Our book club read The Wake fairly recently. Most people in our group are several generation Canadian ,and interested in history. and not one of us had heard of the tsunami either (I'm actually an immigrant). That's what is great about book clubs. You learn so much and are introduced to books and authors you may never have heard of or thought to try.

I looked up the tsunamis history. Shocking! I can't imagine why Canadians are not taught that in school. That is an amazing event in CDN history. I know the history of when Newfoundland joined Canada but still.... Thanks so much for sharing.

I just finished the Count of Monte Cristo this morning, (Sat 23rd) 4 weeks, with a slow start. A great story, very romantic on the whole and so dramatic in many parts. The language is something in itself, difficult to get my head around in the beginning but it became fascinating and forced me to look up many words in the dictionary to get greater understanding. It did feel a little like a movie made too long, some parts were not needed to get the desired impact, but on the whole so glad I read it, it has inspired me not to be afraid to read classics or a more involved and detailed story. Addit: what Kim was saying about her book, (how power changes and controls) is the same in The Count of Monte Cristo.

Love this podcast Rosie Thomas is a good author I never cry at books maybe everything else since having a stroke at fifty twenty years ago but the book if my father loved me made me cry so much the family though I had had a bad phone call but I did have shingles at the time xx

Loved reading Dumas novels - so moving and exciting too. - About riding a camel - perhaps your Zoo has camel rides? I rode one at the Phoenix Zoo a few years ago when traveling with my husband. Fun! But not as thrilling as doing so in sight of the Pyramids, I suppose. (Like my Dad did!)

In respect of Kim's comments about history/greed/figures in power...I had the good fortune to hear Maya Angelou speak in Ottawa and her comment about politicians and their greed and poor decisions...that if you are blessed to be able to travel the world do, so that your view of other cultures/countries don't get coloured by their leaders. Speak to the real people in these countries and you will find that people the world over are really the same and have very similar values. They just want love/food/shelter/happiness and they worry about their own families and about them having a good life as they grow.

Love Harmony Reads!! I actually enjoyed the Columns of Fire. In the audio it was mentioned all was historical fact but characters were not always. Politics still reigns just as it did then. Enough said. Love Kristan Hannah, although I haven’t read that one because reviews suggested a pass. But I just finished her newest, The Women. I wasn’t going to read it because I already lived through the Viet Nam War as a teen and my 20’s. I am glad I did read it. So many things I’d forgotten that we should not forget. It is a great read about the brave nurses in Nam. Thank you for your lovely podcasts! Oh! Disliked Moby Dick very much. I was in an “I started, I must finish” point in my life. Today not. Thanks again!!

Simone I have had the opportunity to visit Dubai for work and was so excited for the first couple of days. I can describe it the way my seat mate (who was a Dr that travels there often for work) did to me, it is like Disney World on steroids. It is a rich/poor city without a doubt. In my opinion I would say Morden day slavery. Betsy is correct if you're a person in love with nature Dubai would become overwhelming and tiresome in a very short time. I love your podcasts, the knitting one and the book one. I hope to have a chance to meet the F&H team at the festival this fall.

Yes, Shawshank Redemption is indeed based on Stephen King’s novella, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption (it’s good, I’ve read it) great episode and I want to ride a camel as well Simone!

I sure enjoy podcast days with you ladies :). I want to know how you find so much time to knit AND read AND work and do all of the things!!! Reading while brushing teeth - LOL. I've done this!! I have even read while walking around the house picking up things!! But, right now Audible is saving my reading life! But, I only get Audible books that are close to 10 hours... anything else I try to read the actual book..

You read books that are less than 10 hours or more than 10 hours? I haven't even moved to an e-reader. I am not sure if I would pay attention enough to listen to audio books.

@@FleeceHarmonyPodcast What I meant is that I try to not purchase Audible books unless they are over 10 hours worth of listening :). If it's less than that, I'll usually get the book at the library or on my Kindle. I just don't have a lot of time for sitting down to read, but I also want to get my money's worth out of an Audible listen. I find that with some practice, Audible has actually helped me stay focused on mundane tasks such as dishes, laundry, filing, walking, and dare I even say knitting! Basically, I'm more apt to stick with a project or task which doesn't require intense concentration if I have an Audible book to listen to while doing the task!

Great Episode. Always interesting, always entertaining. Other than your library, the next best way to locate local authors is your local book store if you are fortunate enough to have one. I live in a small town and my LBS not only carries the local authors but also has many in person talks or readings with them. You may not be aware if you are not on the shop newsletter or FB page.

I read The Count of Monte Cristo in an old 3 volume set- easier. You are correct, in Shawshank Redemption he recommends it because it's about a prison break...

Movies just can’t compare to books. I’d so much druther read a book than watch a movie. My imagination is better than any picture. Next on my list is Count of MC.

We have added the book talks on the weeks that we were not uploading anything on KZbin. The knitting podcast is still being done every two weeks as it has been since Episode 1, so we haven't changed anything with the Knitting Podcast. You can still enjoy it as you always have. We don't talk about books at all there. We purposely kept them separate for viewers just like you! Thanks for supporting our knitting podcast!
