I cannot believe you cut those beautiful roots off the mother plant. I would never do that. Nice roots for transplanting are a blessing.

*Jenny, what I really like about many of your interior/sun porch videos, is that you are soft spoken. It feels like we are side by side sipping a little Tea* while you repot the Aloe Vera plants (rather than 'Instructor Extraordinaire' who thinks no one will hear him/her without a megaphone even when miked up ; ) Thank you for yet another informative and warmly presented video : D ps I heeded your comment and just now repotted my Aloe into a *smaller* pot, it doesn't have root rot yet, nor any pups. But I use Aloe often and need the mother to multiply. *You are so sweet, even the deer in your area must say 'Yayyyy - Salad Bar Time !' in the Spring when your perennials start to come up. (You seem to accommodate everyone & everything's needs.) Love your Vids!*

Thank you. I just seperated my huge aloe vera plant today. It is a plant that has been in my family for decades. I have never separated it before. I put some, not all of the 'babies' in some pots with potting soil. I pray they will survive. I have them in a 'cool' place and the soil is a bit wet right now; so I will not water for a while I suppose. Thank you.. thumbs up!

Thank you so much for a great informative video, I have two pots of overgrown aloe vera plants and didn't know how to separate them not to mention that they are spikey and crowded in the pot. I was dreading to handling them, they're spikey and hard to handle! I guess I'll wear gloves and newspaper to wrap them and avoid their spikes. I truly appreciate ur easy explanation and handling of them. I live in Florida and had the plants for over a year and they have grown out greatly, this winter the poor plants froze and looked sad, thought I will loose them but I trimmed the frozen sections and it's healing itself nicely and they're ready to be repotted. Now I know how to do it correctly! Thanks again! 👍❤️

I have an Aloe Vera plant that is now a grandmother and I’ve had her for a good 15 years. She’s huge and I actually had cut her off of her stalk two summers ago, let the cut callous over and replanted her. She rooted herself back into the new dirt and I left the old stalk, which grew babies off of it!! She had babies about five years ago and now those babies are having babies (hence my saying she’s a grandmother!)! I actually use the feeling of the leaves as to determine when to water her. If the leaves are feeling firm and thick, she’s good. When I’m able to squeeze them, or they look floppy, she needs water. As far as fertilizer, last year was the first time I gave them any, and I just gave them some Liquid Dirt and Super Thrive. I just found a succulent fertilizer on Amazon that I’m going to try next year. For soil, I use a cactus soil and mix in pumice and orchid bark. Sometimes I buy Bonsai Jack Succulent mix and add that in as well. Will you be doing any more houseplant videos? I just found your channel from this video. I’m disabled and unable to do outside gardening but I have a large houseplant collection and enjoy caring for them. Those babies will be well loved by their recipients - such great gifts! Thank you for sharing! 💜💚🪴🌵

You just saved my aloe vera babies. 💖 I made the huge mistake of watering them right after I cut them from their mama and trimmed a few leaves (worse: I put them in a large glass of water, because I had no soil at hand to replant them). The leaves at the bottom rot, and kept rotting even after I put them in soil (because I watered them again... ) but the top is salvageble still. Thank you!

Man, imma one up you here. When I moved into my house 16 years ago, I went to Home Depot and bought some coconut fiber - you know, those 169 bowl sizes? I had a BUNCH of aloe that I just stuck into soil because that’s what my Nana taught me, aloe-soil, you know..l that’s what aloe needs. Fast forward 16 years for this poor creature. STILL ALIVE. I’ve watered it… not joking…. Maybe once a year. It’s been in partially sunny and then very, very shaded parts of my house. Last year a part of it bloomed in the dark. Pretty sure it’s been surviving on humidity and spite alone. Currently repotting everything (main stalk and pups) into a more beneficial place. With…. A major hunk load being tossed in the trash as desiccated plant matter. I have faith this creature will survive the apocalypse. I think if any window in my house should break, with the natural air humidity…. My braven child - go forth and populate. You are a survivor!

Hello again....I can't believe I'm writing again so soon lol. Well, I failed my farmer roots.....😥😥 I had all kinds of pups and medium sized aloe plants. Dang near brought them back to life. I transplanted all the squished together plants and I had given a bunch away to friends at work. Well I haven't spoken with the gals at work about the plants, but I was sure succesful killing every one of my plants.....so sad... I'm trying again. Bought a few at Home Depot. I saw maybe I had too much dry soil and I tried to let the wounds heal up before transplanting. I may have gone too long there leaving them out. We'll see if this girl can be successful this time around. I had some pretty plants too......dang! I can't believe I'm the last comment last time too lol. Dang a year and a half. I used to kill every succulent but now I just never water them and they are great.

Right? They seem to thrive on my neglect - which benefits both of us!

Never water them ? Impossible . At least water them once every 2 or 3 months

Great video. I need to research mine, as it’s huge and I left it out in the very cold (Texas) night. It’s really red/purple. Maybe I can save it. Tfs.

Great Video. I recently bought and Potted an Aloe Vera Plant. The Mother Plant seems to be thriving. Although I used a normal potting mix rather than a Cactus/Succulent Mix since I wasn't aware of it. Would my Plant still be OK? Also, there is one leaf at base of the Mother plant that is sort of rotten and mushy. However, I'm sort of worried about removing that Leaf since there's a very tiny pup right next to the Leaf and I don't want to damage the Pup in the Process. Could you give me some Advice? I'm from Southern Ontario, Canada and I've got my Aloe indoors right by the Window. We don't really get Great Weather most of the times though at the moment we're enjoying our Spring/Summers. Thanks 😊

I just dumped the entire ball of dirt and roots out onto the ground, then carefully broke up the dirt and separated the babies one at a time.

What do you do with the leaves that you cut out? Can you propagate from them?

I'm not exactly sure. I tried propagating them and it didn't work, but I probably did it wrong.

Hi. Is it ok to water when, like you said , the top 2 inch of soil dries ? If so, then mine dries out in a week or less so can I water it weekly ?

Mine is happy being watered once a week, but is okay if I forget and go a few days longer.

Hm, I'm not sure! I don't know a whole lot about succulents, but maybe a google search would be helpful?
