What a brilliant footballer. Im a 57 year old Manchester City fan, been watching since 1973, I remember jinky only on highlights of the previous weeks games, how it was back in the day. He is one of my favourite players of all time, and in today’s world wide exposure football gets, all the worlds top clubs would be queuing up to sign him, but for how much? You couldn’t put a price on a player of that quality. In my view he’s up there with the greatest there’s ever been. Absolutely scandalous that he only had around 25 international caps. Tragic end to a magnificent player. RIP Jinky.

Crazy how a nation of that size in the same decade could call upon Jim Baxter, Denis Law, Dave Mackay, Billy Bremner, Jimmy Johnstone, Willie Henderson, Davie Wilson, John White, Alan Gilzean, Bobby Murdoch, Billy McNeill, Tommy Gemmell, John Greig, Dave Gibson, Charlie Cooke, Willie Hamilton, Willie Johnston and more and they never qualified for a World Cup finals and then one day they just stopped producing any players of great talent, makes no sense

Yeah, it's quite insane. As for the lack of World Cup qualifications - until this day I have no idea what was happening with NT call ups. Well, I know the explanation but I still have no idea how you can feck up a generation this talented this much. I mean, Johnstone (I'd say the most naturally talented Scot ever after Law & maybe Baxter) with 23 caps, Mackay with 22, Murdoch - the brains behind the Lisbon Lions with (!!) 12...

Scotland had terrible draws then. They were in the same group as Czechoslovakia for 1962, the team who finished runners up to Brazi. They were in the same group as Italy for 1966 and West Germany for 1970. The odds were stacked against Scotland. Some of those players you mentioned ended up playing for Scotland in the world cup during the 1970s. To be fair to the current Scotland team it is the best group of Scottish players for 30 years.
