After all these years convincing myself that I just can't get the coordination down to play Dust in the Wind, you said Both inside outside inside both and I said DUH! This is incredibly easy! Thank you so much for sharing this. You're teaching style is A1 and I can't thank you enough! Great video! Great channel!

I have been trying this song for a few days and had the pattern down exactly the same but just couldn’t quite get it in time, the both, inside, outside, inside, both. Oh yes thank you so much it’s just clicked, and it’s wonderful. 👍

I like how you break things down! Thank you. I just would like to add-don't know if it's some anatomical aspect of my fingers or what-but I had an ahah moment when, relatively late in my music life, I realized I'm much better off emphasizing my thumb/middle/ring fingers over my thumb/index/middle fingers. Maybe I have a short index?! I hope at least one person also has an ahah with this comment!

Whoo! Good luck, just take things slow and give yourself a good 20 minutes for the pattern to get "programmed" into your fingers. After that, you should be able to start developing speed in the pattern. Remember to pause for the quarter note!

Terrific video! Can you do a travis picking lesson on Sligo River Blues by John Fahey?? Its just a tad more technical with its melody timing which makes it all the more difficult

I've never Hurd of the "Travis picking" until 2week ago but I'm good at picking things up but for the last 20years I've been picking with three fingers the standard picking and at the mo it's frustrating that my fingers are not working with each other is there another way to retrain my fingers cheers Jake

Do you recommend long fingernails for this?
@SignalsMusicStudio7 жыл бұрын
It certainly helps to have fingernails for a song like this, but it isn't a requirement. If it were any faster or used more strings, I'd say you pretty much need to have nails.
@carltaylor49426 жыл бұрын
Kamron - You don't really need _long_ fingernails either. Just about a sixteenth of an inch will do. The most important thing is that they are well manicured and smooth. Get used to carrying a nail file in your guitar case!
@jasoncavitt20436 жыл бұрын
Great job. I'd much rather take an element of a song and turn it into a series of exercises than worry over covering the song. Better value.

Can anyone tell me if I should keep clipping my nails on my picking hand? I ask because I see professionals with long nails when they pick but when mine are growing they get in my way & pluck other strings. I keep mine short but theirs are long ish??? Anyone else need theirs short? Obviously my fretting nails are very short. Oh my..the sacrifices we make, I used to love getting my nails done at a salon as well😩✌

i can play the notes . but i am using my middle finger for the B string, everything is same buttt i feel like i am missing something in this song when i play it myself i cant get the bass beat sound right .. any suggestions
@profd655 жыл бұрын
I don't quite know what you mean by you "can't get the bass beat sound right." If you mean the bass isn't coming out loudly and distinctly--yes, that can be a problem when you're playing with your thumb; therefore, some persons grown out their thumbnail (really, all their nails) on their left hand, OR they play with a thumb pick. Using one of these methods will give you more clarity and volume. Another option is to play into a microphone. But if you mean that your timing or rhythm is wrong, then you just have to count and use a metronome. 1 2+ 3+ 4+ (you say it this way: "one, two and, three and, four and, " etc.) As you say a number, pluck with your thumb.

How do you keep the 1 and 6 strings from ringing?
@SignalsMusicStudio7 жыл бұрын
If you're using an acoustic, those strings shouldn't ring out unless you accidentally hit them. If that's happening, then you should try making smaller pick strokes with your fingers so they don't accidentally hit incorrect strings. If you watch my fingers in this video, during the pattern, my hand barely moves- just my fingers are doing the work. If my hand starts moving around, it'll be more likely that I get out of "position" and start picking wrong strings. Hope this helps!
