I love this piece and this performance. Bauer's reading of Des Abends is full of tonal, dynamic and rhythmic nuances and gives me goosebumps. The whole work is musical magic in the Hands and heart of Bauer.

I agree. I have always loved Novaes best in this work, and Rubinstein a close second, but this recording by Bauer has swept me off my feet -- truly a revelation! He captures the power, pathos and poetic essence of this music with more intensity and keen perception than anyone else I've ever heard.

Harold Bauer’s having first been a violinist is very evident, in both his phrasing and his voicing-the autonomy of each voice in the texture is almost sculpted, it’s so clear! Beautiful!

Bauer was a violinist before he became a pianist at age 20. He was an accompanist to Paderewski and I hear the influence of Paderewski in his playing. This is almost indistinguishable from Paderewski.
